Abstract

This research aims to find out the improvement of students’ vocabulary after being taught by using Bilingual Fable of the sixth-grade students at SDN 5 Tentena, Poso. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). To analyze the data, the researcher used test, descriptive quantitative analysis. The result of this study shows that in the pre-cycle the student’s average score is 42. In the first cycle the students’ average score is 61, while in the second cycle the students’ average score is 72. From pre-cycle, first cycle and second cycle, the average of the students score is always increasing. It can be concluded that the use of Bilingual Fable as media to improve students’ vocabulary is also able to make students interest and motivate in learning process. Thus, the use of bilingual fable is effective in improving students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

Language is a human and non-instinctive method of communicating idea, feeling and desires by means of a system of sounds and sounds symbols. Speaking is a number of impossible from must be selected. Picture is visual representation (of in object or scene or person or abstraction). This study is aim to know whether there is an effect of using picture to improve the speaking ability of SMP Negeri 1 Kefamenanu. The method used to conduct this study is descriptive quantitate method. There were 20 students class VIII in the second grade students of junior high school as the sample of this study. The result of the formula above, it is done through the following procedure check the t-score by using 1 level of significance states in the low of one tailed test. One tailed test used instantly of two tailed is the tendency of the writer in order to match with the result of the two groups. Thus, in accordance the result of the data analysis in this study concludes18 students have got score good 2 students got enough level. Based on the conclusion of data analysis the writer would like to give suggestion for the teacher and the students to pay attention more of the studying about speaking. Confronting with the large class teacher is expected to use a good method particularly communicative method that can help the students to be virtually independent for the spoken language.

Abstract

The students at the third grade of MTs N 2 Palu have different social context in their life. Since different students in different societies have distinct ways of life, and language to a considerable degree is influenced by culture. The factors above against this background that this study is carried out to examine how the differences in English use of men and women and at the third grade of MTs N 2 Palu. This research discusses about the differences between men and women in using English. Considering the purpose of the research and the nature of the problem, this research was a qualitative-research. To collect the data the researcher used observation, interview, and video recording. The result of this study shows that the difference between the students in using English is influenced by the social context especially in cultural aspect. When the students use English, the accent of each culture follows into their English. It also affects the intonations and accent when they use English. While, the differences between men and women. Women found it easier to adjust their accents and distinguish accents from the culture and accents of the English. While, man found it difficult. So, when using English men are often carried away with accents from their own culture.

Abstract

The reading comprehension of grade IX students of MTs Palasa is still low, especially in reading narrative texts. so that the researcher was motivated to discuss the thesis entitled "The Effect of Using Listening-Reading-Discussion (LRD) Strategy on Students' Understanding of Reading Narrative Text at Mts Palasa". This research aims to obtain empirical evidence about the effect of using listening-read-discussion strategies on students' understanding of reading narrative texts. This research method is quantitative. The research design used is quasi-experimental. In the experimental class, the researcher used the listening-read-discuss method and in the control class, the researcher methods that are often used by teachers at the school, in 8 meetings with a time of 80 minutes for each class. The researcher used an instrument in the form of multiple choice. The instrument is given in pre-test and post-test. Before giving the treatment, the researcher gave a pre-test for the second class. Then after the treatment, the instrument was given in the form of a posttest. After giving the pre-test and post-test, the researcher analyzed the data using SPSS 25 to calculate the independent sample t-test. From the analysis of the data calculated using SPSS 25, this research shows differences in the value of the final significant mean between the classes, from the experimental class, was 70.00, while the final mean of the control class is 58.50. The hypothesis test shows that sig. 2 tailed (p) is 0.001 with alpha (α) is 0.05, so 0.002 < 0.05. It can be stated that Ho (Null Hypothesis) has been rejected and Ha (Alternative Hypothesis) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of listening-reading-discussion strategi affects the reading comprehension of ninth-grade students of MTs Palasa on narrative texts in the 2021/2022 academic year.

Abstract

This research purpose was to determine the influence of short story narrative text on students’ vocabulary mastery at the 10th grade of SMAN 1 PETIR. This research was done by true-experimental with random sampling. The population of this research was all of the first-grade high school students in Banten province, consisting of 350 students. The researcher used two classes, X MIPA 4 as the experimental and X MIPA 5 as the control class. Both classes consisted of 35 students. In obtaining the data, the researcher used multiple-choice questions as instruments. Try out was conducted as the first step to get the data. After conducting the tryout, the researcher gave a pre-test in both classes. The researcher gave the treatment in the experimental class using Short Story Animation as a media, and in the control class, the discussion method used a module. The result of the calculation by Independent T-test found that (0,002 < 0,005), which means the hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted. The effectiveness of using Short Story Animation Narrative Text can be seen in the ability obtained after the treatment.

Abstract

Students in Indonesia need the motivation to be more interested in English lessons, one of which is by giving songs in class. The English song can attract the students in the teaching and learning process for English class. The students at SMAN 1 Palu have a low ability in listening comprehension. This research aims to find out the relationship between the students’ habits in listening to English songs and their listening comprehension achievement. The result of this research consists of the interpretation of data obtained in this research, the relation of data obtained with the theories from both variables, and the relation comparison of this research with the previous students. The result data was obtained from 20 students of eleventh grade at MAN 1 Palu. Based on the result, the scores of sig between the effect Like Song and Don’t Like Song were 0,231 or more than 0,05. Then the researcher concluded that Listening to English song habits has a correlation with listening comprehension of the eleventh-grade students of MAN 1 Palu revealed by the mean score of the students’ questionnaire. The mean score level was 48.40%, which is a high category level.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out whether the use of the silent way with spelling games can improve students’ vocabulary in the eighth grade of SMPN 8 Palu or not. The knowledge of the English language in the eighth grade of SMP 8 Palu is still low, especially in vocabulary. This research aims to obtain empirical evidence about the effect of using the silent way method with spelling games. The population were all eighth-grade students of SMP 8 Palu. The sample were 44 students. The research employs a quasi-experimental design. In the experimental class, the researcher used the silent way method with a spelling game, and in the control class, the researcher used the conventional method strategy (memorizing). The researcher used an instrument in the form of multiple choice and matching tests. The instrument was given in pre-test and post-test. The finding indicated that there was a different score of the final significant mean between the classes, the serve of the experimental class was 73,40 while the final mean of the control class was 63,6. The hypothesis test shows that significant level of 5 % t-test 4,255 > t-table 1,682 so, it can be stated that H0 (Null hypothesis) was rejected and Ha (Alternative hypothesis) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the Silent Way method with the Spelling Game was effective in improving students’ vocabulary in the eighth grade at SMP 8 Palu in the academic year 2021/2022.

Abstract

Vocabulary plays an important role in language acquisition. By mastering vocabulary, the students can express their idea easily. The reality, many students have a limited vocabulary. This paper focuses on the use of morphological awareness to increase students' vocabulary knowledge. The researcher applied Quantitative Research. The instrument used to collect the data was tests. The pre-test is to determine the level of students' vocabulary mastery before being given the treatment, while the post-test test is used to find out the results after being given the treatment. There is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores, there is a morphological effect on vocabulary knowledge at Ma'had Al-Jamiah IAIN Palu with foreign languages. This is evidenced by the results obtained where the final result of the average value of students is 67.2 while the previous grade was 34 and has increased by about 97%. This research is in accordance with the target. Thus, there is a significant increase after being given the treatment of Using Morphological Awareness to Increase Students' Vocabulary Knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to find the effectiveness the use of comic strips in class VIII SMPN 13 Palu. Pre-experimental design that required pre-test and post-test groups, used in this research. The population in this study were 191 eighth-grade students of SMPN 13 Palu. The sample of this study was 15 students. selected using  quota sampling technique. The data had been collected were analyzed quantitavely. The results of data analysis showed that the average score of students in the pre-test (31.67), and the post-test scores of students increased after being given treatment used comic strip media with an average value 79.67. Ttable significance level for alpha ɑ 0.05 or 5% degrees of freedom (df 28 = 1.701). The Tobserve value higher than Ttable, namely 10.921 > 1.701, then the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. It can be proven that there is a significant improvment between the results of used comic strips in taught reading comprehension of narrative texts to second-grade students of SMPN 13 Palu. The implication of this research was the use of comic strips as a media can improve students' reading comprehension at SMPN 13 Palu. It is hoped that prospective educators can present teaching materials well and interestingly so that they are easy to understand, joyful, and can make a comfortable learnned atmosphere, so that the class becomes more conductive.

Abstract

This research aims at finding out the use of crossword puzzle in improving vocabulary mastery at seven grade students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu. This research applied a quasi-experimental design, in which there were two groups, an experimental and a control group. Seven grade E was the experimental group, while seven grade F was the control group. This research involved 50 students of SMP Negeri 10 Palu. The samples of this research were taken from the population of grade seven students by using a purposive sampling technique. The researcher used tests as the instrument for collecting data. The tests were divided into two; pre-test and post-test which were given to the experimental and control group. The treatment was conducted six times and was given to the experimental group by using a crossword puzzle, while the control group used the other technique. The data obtained from the test were analysed statistically. From the analysis, there was a difference between the achievement of the experimental (85.5) and the control group (44.2). It was based on the hypothesis testing done, by using 0.05 level of significance and 48 degrees of freedom (df), the researcher found that t-counted (6.08) is higher than t-table (2.0126). It means that the hypothesis (Ha) is accepted or in other words, the use of crossword puzzles has a significant effect on students’ learning outcomes in learning vocabulary.
