Abstract

Background: Banyudono II Public Health Center has collected data on the condition of pregnant women, but proper data processing has not yet been carried out due to limited resources. Purpose: As part of a community service initiative, graduate students from the Master of Nutrition Science Program at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) assisted in processing and analyzing secondary data from the Nutrition and Family Health Information System (SIGIZI KESGA), developed by the Indonesian Ministry of Health. The activity covered six villages: Cangkringan, Dukuh, Jembungan, Jipangan, Sambon, and Kuwiran. Method: This activity used a descriptive quantitative approach through secondary data analysis. Results and Discussion: Analysis revealed that 27% of pregnant women experienced Chronic Energy Deficiency (MUAC < 23.5 cm), 64% were overweight or obese (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m²), and 27% had high blood pressure (≥140/90 mmHg). Additionally, 10% of respondents were over 35 years old, a high-risk pregnancy group. These findings indicate a double burden of malnutrition—both undernutrition and overnutrition among pregnant women, which increases the risk of complications. Conclusion: The use of available data proved valuable in identifying high-risk pregnant women and designing promotive and preventive interventions. Strengthening data utilization helps enhance maternal health services, particularly in resource-limited settings, and supports the Puskesmas in delivering more comprehensive care.

Abstract

Kencur (Kaempferia galanga L.) is one of the traditional medicinal plants that has long been used by the Indonesian people, including the community of Klambu Village, Klambu Subdistrict, Grobogan Regency. However, local knowledge regarding its use has not been widely documented scientifically. This study aims to examine the utilization of kencur by the local community from ethnobotanical, ethnomedicinal, and ethnoeconomic perspectives. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with field surveys, direct observations, and structured interviews conducted with 35 respondents selected through snowball sampling techniques. The results show that the most commonly used parts of the kencur plant are the rhizome (fruit), leaves, and roots, which are used to treat ailments such as cough, colds, gastritis, and diarrhea, through various methods of preparation including chewing, drinking, applying topically, and cooking. In addition to its medicinal use, kencur also has economic value as it is sold in fresh form and as an ingredient in traditional herbal medicine (jamu). This knowledge is passed down through generations and is still preserved today. Therefore, kencur plays an important role in the lives of the Klambu Village community, both as a source of traditional medicine and as a local economic potential that should be preserved and developed. This research emphasizes the importance of preserving traditional knowledge based on medicinal plants and supports its development through systematic documentation, integration of pharmaceutical sciences, and local economic empowerment.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, including in Kupang City. This study aims to examine the relationship between environmental conditions, knowledge, and attitudes of housewives (IRT) and dengue prevention behaviors in the working area of Oesapa Public Health Center, Kupang City. This research is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. A total of 66 housewives were selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis involved univariate and bivariate tests using the chi-square method with a significance level of 0.05. The research results show that the environmental variable has a significant relationship with dengue fever prevention behavior, as indicated by a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. The knowledge variable does not have a significant relationship with dengue fever prevention behavior, as indicated by a p-value of 0.227 > 0.05. The attitude variable has a significant relationship with dengue fever prevention behavior, as indicated by a p-value of 0.000 < 0.05. In conclusion, dengue fever prevention behavior is more influenced by environmental conditions and attitudes than by the level of knowledge. This study recommends the need for interventions focused on improving attitudes and environmental conditions through education and active community participation.

Abstract

Elderly Posyandu is a community-based health service that emphasizes promotive and preventive care for older adults. However, its utilization remains low in some areas. According to data from Noemuke Health Center, the attendance rate at Elderly Posyandu was 60% in 2021, increased to 70% in 2022, but sharply declined to 40% in 2023, falling far below the minimum service standard of 80%. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the utilization of Elderly Posyandu in the working area of Noemuke Health Center in 2024. This is a quantitative study using an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design. A total of 96 respondents were selected through simple random sampling from a population of 5,023 elderly individuals. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed with univariate and bivariate analysis using the chi-square test at a significance level of 0.05. The univariate analysis showed that most respondents had low knowledge (57.3%), negative attitudes (59.4%), lacked family support (58.3%), and lived far from the Posyandu (69.8%). The bivariate analysis found significant relationships between knowledge, attitude, family support, and distance to services with the utilization of Elderly Posyandu (p < 0.05). It is recommended that health centers improve regular education and outreach to both the elderly and their families, especially in remote areas. Family involvement and community engagement are also crucial to enhance participation. Further research should explore other potential factors such as socioeconomic status and the role of community leaders in influencing the utilization of Elderly Posyandu.

Abstract

Toddler immunization is an important effort to prevent infectious diseases and improve children’s health. However, immunization coverage in Tenom District is still low, at 25.6%. This study aims to analyze toddler immunization behavior based on the Theory Planned Behavior (TPB). The method used is quantitative with a cross-sectional survey design, involving 180 respondents from 18 villages selected by cluster random sampling. Inclusion criteria include mothers with toddlers aged 0-5 years, living in the Teunom health center area, being able to speak Indonesian, not using a caregiver, and willing to be respondents. Data were collected through interviews using questionnaires and direct observation of toddler KIA books. Data analysis using the chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The results showed that bivariately there was a significant influence between attitude (OR = 2.128; P = 0.017), perceived behavioral control (OR = 2.577; P = 0.003), and intention (OR = 2.652; P = 0.002) on the type of immunization. However, subjective norms had no effect (OR = 1.706; P = 0.094). Multivariately, the intention variable became dominant with OR 2.241 and P = 0.019, indicating that respondents with bad intentions were twice as likely to not receive complete immunization. The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between attitude, perceived behavioral control and intention towards the type of immunization in toddlers. While there is no relationship between subjective norms and the type of immunization in toddlers.

Abstract

Preoperative anxiety is an adaptive response to stress before surgery. This condition not only affects the patient's psychological well-being but can also influence physiological parameters such as blood pressure, heart rate, and stress hormone levels, which may indirectly increase the risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications. Various interventions have been developed to reduce preoperative anxiety, both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. Non-pharmacological approaches such as aromatherapy, music therapy, and acupuncture are increasingly used as alternative treatments. The purpose of administering lavender aromatherapy in this study was to reduce preoperative anxiety in patients undergoing general anesthesia and to minimize postoperative side effects. A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design without a control group was conducted on 40 patients aged 25–45 years undergoing elective surgery at Hospital X. Aromatherapy was administered by inhalation of five drops of lavender essential oil for 15 minutes. Anxiety levels were measured using the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, as the data were not normally distributed. The results showed a significant reduction in anxiety levels after the administration of aromatherapy (p < 0.05), indicating that lavender inhalation aromatherapy is effective in reducing preoperative anxiety and can be used as a complementary therapy.

Abstract

Aging is a biological process that all individuals undergo. Tissues gradually lose their ability to repair and maintain their normal function, leading to various physical or health problems. A common medical issue among older adults is obesity, a condition in which fat accumulates in adipose and can affect a person's health. Hyperinsulinemia, glucose intolerance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, along with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), constitute impacts that obesity can cause. Griya Lansia 'Aisyiyah Baiturrohmah is an elderly community owned by the Regional Leadership of 'Aisyiyah in Yogyakarta which carries out its routine activities two times in a week. This research aimed to compare rheumatoid factor (RF) levels in obese and non-obese elderly and the existence of a link between BMI and RF examination results. This study employed a comparative experimental design with a cross-sectional approach. The study applied complete enumeration, namely all elderly who met the predetermined criteria became research samples, namely 31 people of female gender. The analysis applied both univariate and bivariate techniques within the form of mann-whitney and chi-square tests. No significant difference in RF levels was observed between obese and non-obese elderly individuals (p=0.728). Furthermore, no significant correlation was found between BMI and RF examination results in the elderly within the GLA Baiturrohmah community (p=1.000). The community is expected to maintain an appropriate diet and physical activity because it can help improve blood circulation, muscle strength, and joint stability without putting excessive pressure on the joints.

Abstract

Obesity is a condition of impaired body weight control system indicated by excessive fat accumulation in the body (i.e., exceeding 20% of ideal body weight) which can cause increased blood glucose levels and systemic inflammation. Obesity assessment can be measured using the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Circumference Ratio (WC). The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in glucose and CRP levels between obese and non-obese elderly in the Aisyiyah Baiturrohmah Elderly Home Community. This research method is comparative analytical observational, to see the comparison of Glucose and CRP levels in obese and non-obese elderly. The sample collection technique used the total sampling method with a cross-sectional approach with a total sample of 31 elderly (17 obese elderly and 14 non-obese elderly). The results of the study were in the form of primary data from the results of glucose examinations using the Point of Care Test method and CRP examinations using the latex agglutination method. The results of statistical analysis of glucose examinations using the one sample t-test showed a p-value of 0.001 which indicated a significant difference between obese and non-obese glucose levels. Meanwhile, statistical tests were not carried out on CRP because all samples were found to be non-reactive, so it was stated that no significant difference was found between the CRP of obese elderly and the CRP of non-obese elderly
