Abstract

Fishermen are highly susceptible to hearing impairment due to prolonged exposure to the high-intensity noise of boat engines. While numerous studies have investigated the noise intensity levels of boat engines, no research has been conducted on noise warning alarm systems for fishing boats. Therefore, this study aims to develop a sound noise alarm system based on Arduino Uno with a KY-037 sensor for fishing boats, which is expected to reduce the potential for hearing impairment among fishermen. This research employs a quantitative descriptive approach, with data collected through experimental methods and analyzed by comparing noise level data at various engine speeds. The results of the noise level measurements of boat engines at the Fish Landing Base (PPI) in Cikidang, Pangadaran Regency, indicate that the majority of fishermen are safe from hearing impairment due to engine noise, as most boats there are small, with a Gross Tonnage (GT) capacity of under 5 GT. The risk of hearing impairment emerges for boats with a capacity of 11 GT running at a maximum engine speed of 1600 rpm, producing noise levels up to 84 dB. Thus, it is recommended that crew members use earplugs.

Abstract

Research to design an organic waste chopping machine with a capacity of 20 kg, which can be used by small industries and households, aims to facilitate the processing of organic waste with a capacity that is not large to support the activities of processing fruit and vegetable waste into eco-enzyme or compost which is an alternative organic waste processing solutions. During this process, what is done is to cut fruit and vegetable waste into small pieces which will be processed into eco-enzyme using a kitchen knife which is definitely not effective, takes a long time and the results are not uniform. The method used in designing this tool is the French method. This research succeeded in designing an organic waste chopping machine with a capacity of 20 kg, with a motor power of 0.18 kw / 180 watts. The combination of tool capacity and low watt motor makes mobility easier because it is easy to move and saves electricity consumption or costs. This research is a solution for processing organic waste both in households and in communities that are eco-enzyme and compost activists with real implementation in supporting more effective and efficient handling of organic waste.

Abstract

The development of the Indonesian palm oil industry has direct implications for the increasingly widespread cultivation of oil palm, both managed by small-scale companies and those managed by large-scale companies. This condition is directly proportional to the increase in the amount of solid waste and liquid waste produced from industrial activities. Solid waste and liquid waste can pollute the environment and endanger public health if not managed properly. This literature review aims to examine the role of partnerships between communities and the palm oil industry in managing palm oil waste and its implications for environmental health. Partnerships involve active community participation in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating waste management programs. The results of the literature review show that the partnership has had a positive impact, such as improving water and air quality and reducing the prevalence of environmentally related diseases. Apart from that, community empowerment programs in processing waste into economically valuable products also provide economic benefits. However, there are inhibiting factors such as low public awareness, limited human resources, and lack of other supporting facilities and infrastructure.

Abstract

An abnormal connection that exists between two epithelial surfaces or lumens of the rectum that reaches into the vagina is known as a recto-vaginal fistula (RVF). RVF is one unfortunate consequence of the underlying condition, such as trauma or surgery. According to the patient recap of the urogynecology clinic at M Djamil Hospital Padang (2023), from January to September, 6 patients had cases of rectovaginal fistula that needed to be repaired. Treatment of the underlying condition, the fistula, and its associated complications all fall under the umbrella of RVF management. Given that obstetrics, procedure is still the main cause in this case, the role of the field of urogynecology in the management of surgical interventions is important to maintain the quality of life of a woman. In this case report we present a case report of a 24-year-old woman with rectovaginal fistula and anal incontinence caused by chronic total perineal tear. The patient complained of feces discharge from the vagina since giving spontaneous birth to the first. Physical examination found defects in the internal sphincter (IAS) and external sphincter (EAS) at 11 until 14 o'clock. The patient then underwent sphincteroplasty and perineorrhaphy and showed improvement after surgical intervention

Abstract

Microplastics can cause physical, chemical, and biological damage to marine organisms. Small microplastic particles can become trapped in the tissues of organisms or be ingested by marine biota, causing physical injuries and even death. The findings of this study are expected to provide information to companies, governments, and the public regarding the impact of microplastics on coastal ecosystems, as well as recommendations for solutions that can be implemented to minimize the pollution impact. The study results indicate that microplastics can also absorb hazardous chemicals and pollutants, which can enter the bodies of marine organisms and cause toxicity. The accumulation of microplastics in the bodies of organisms can impact higher-level organisms in the food chain, including humans. In this regard, recommendations for strategies and public awareness are necessary to safeguard the environment and ensure a healthy life. The public should play an active role in controlling environmental impacts, reducing the use of single-use plastics, and implementing proper waste management systems. Additionally, governments need to create effective national policies for managing plastic waste, implementing the 4R hierarchy, and educating the public to increase awareness of the negative impacts of microplastics on coastal ecosystems. Lastly, continuous research and monitoring of microplastics in coastal ecosystems are necessary to develop more effective control strategies.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a widespread health issue that profoundly impacts workers' productivity and quality of life. In addition to non-specific health effects, LBP can result in long-term disability and considerable economic losses. Globally, LBP affects 619 million individuals, with projections suggesting an increase to 843 million by 2050, particularly Low Middle Income Countries (LMICs) in Asia and Africa. The shipbuilding industry, known for its physically strenuous tasks and stringent deadlines, presents unique ergonomic challenges that can exacerbate job-related stress and precipitate the onset of LBP. This study examines Project X PT Y, a pivotal entity in Indonesia's shipbuilding sector. Utilizing a quantitative methodology and a cross-sectional research design, the study encompasses all 26 workers from the welding workshop at Project X PT Y. The analysis, conducted using the Spearman test, reveals a robust monotonic relationship between work-related stress and LBP complaints, indicating that the incidence of LBP increases concomitantly with elevated work stress.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the effect of red sugar cane bagasse waste as a cement substitute on the compressive strength of concrete and to determine the compressive strength value of concrete after adding red sugar bagasse waste as a cement substitute. This research is experimental research which begins with preparation of tools and materials, aggregate inspection, slump test, job mix design, making test objects, caring for test objects, testing concrete volume weight and ends with testing concrete compressive strength. The research results show that the addition of red sugar cane bagasse powder as a cement substitute in making concrete has an effect on the mechanical properties of concrete such as: slump value, concrete volume weight and concrete compressive strength. The average compressive strength value of concrete produced after adding 2.5% red sugar cane bagasse waste; 5%; 7.5% and 10% at 28 days are 20.95 MPa respectively; 17.15 MPa; 14.79 MPa and 11.87 MPa. Thus, red sugar bagasse waste is not recommended to be used as a cement substitute because the compressive strength value of the planned concrete is very far from normal concrete.
