Abstract

Background: The most common cause of death by malaria in Indonesia is Plasmodium falciparum, which is analogous to Plasmodium berghei, which lives as a parasite in the liver of mice. The damage caused is seen in severe hepatocyte cell damage, which can be prevented by immunization, but the right type of immunization has not been found. Objective: This study aims to see whether immunization with Anopheles sundaicus salivary gland extract in mice can reduce liver damage in mice that have been infected with Plasmodium berghei. Methods: This research was conducted at the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, from May - September 2020. The research method was descriptive with a quantitative approach. View and compare the histopathological picture of the liver of mice, which were infected with Plasmodium berghei after being immunized with Anopheles sundaicus salivary gland extract, in the pellet extract and supernatant extract groups, and the control group who were not immunized. The preparations were viewed using a microscope (Binocular Olympus BX 51 DIC), the number of hepatocytes was counted using the Image J application and the percentage of damage was calculated using the formula by Baldatina (2008). Results: The percentage of hepatocyte cell damage in the mencit control group was 96.27%, pellet extract 88.88% and supernatan extract 85.93%. Conclusion: The highest percentage of hepatocyte cell damage was found in the mencit control group and the lowest damage percentage in the supernatan extract group.

Abstract

Background. Brain edema is excessive accumulation of fluid in the intracranial or extracellular space of the brain. It can be caused by head trauma, brain tumors, hypoxia, metabolic disorders, or acute hypertension. Acute myocardial infraction is damage to the myocard that occurs due to lack oxygen. When acute myocardial infarction occurs, there will be disruption of blood flow in the form of stasis which allows emboli and decreased Cardiac Output which will cause a decrease in Cerebral Blood Flow. There will be a state of ischemia and hypoxia so that the hemostatic mechanism is disturbed which will trigger brain edema. Objective. This research was conducted to see the effect of giving ramipril to histopathological of the brain of wistar rat with brain edema. Methods. This research is an experimental study. We used 32 animals which were divided into 4 groups (K-, K +, P1, and P2). P1 was given 3 mg/kgBW ramipril for 7 consecutive days. P2 was given 4 mg/kgBW ramipril for 7 consecutive days. On days 8 and 9, P1, P2, and K+ induced isoproterenol 85 mg/kgBW for 2 consecutive days to induce brain edema through the mechanism of acute myocardial infarction. Data analysis was performed using One Way Anova test and Post Hoc Bonferroni test. Results. The mean area of brain edema in the K-, K +, P1, and P2 groups respectively were 20.76%, 34.69%, 22.70%, and 21.90%. Conclusion. There was a significant effect of giving ramipril to histopathological of the brain of wistar rat with brain edema

Abstract

Background. Myopia is one of the most common refractive errors. Refractive disorders indicate a relationship with IQ (Intelligence Quotient). It was first found to show that the higher the person's myopia the higher the IQ score he obtained.Objective. This study aims to determine the relationship between myopia and IQ scores in students of SMPN 1 Padang City.Method. This research is a comparative analytical study with a cross-sectional design using primary data and secondary data from May 2020 - August 2020 at SMPN 1 Padang. The sample consisted of 44 people with 22 people as cases and 22 people as controls. Data analysis used univariate analysis and bivariate analysis. The r value indicates the strength of the correlation and the results are statistically significant if the p value is <0.05.Result. The results showed that most of the respondents consisted of female students (52.3%), the incidence of myopia was found more in female students (72.7%), the highest degree of myopia was obtained by mild myopia (59.1%), the highest IQ score was obtained. with a high level of intelligence (65.9%) with a mean; myopia IQ score 117 ± 17.5, control IQ score 121.68 ± 16.3. In several bivariate analyzes, it was found that there was no relationship between myopia and IQ score (p> 0.05).Conclusion. In this study, there was no significant relationship between myopia and IQ score.

Abstract

Background. Blood is the most important physical evidences and often found at crime scene. The Teichmann test is a confirmation test to check whether the spot really a blood.Objective. This study aims to identify the bloodstain on cloth soaked in water and buried in the ground using Teichmann test.Method. The research type is a descriptive study with a laboratory experimental study design. The sample of this study was a cloth dripped with blood, 27 samples are immersed in a bucket filled with water and 27 other samples are buried in the ground with a depth of 20 cm. The examination using the Teichmann test will be carried out on the 6th to the 14th day of exposure.Result. From the research that has been done, the results of the Teichmann test were positive on blood spots on cloth soaked in water and buried in the ground on the 6th to 9th day of exposure. Positive results indicate the formation of hemin hydrochloride crystals in the form of blackish-brown rods.Conclusion. The conclusion of this study is hemin hydrochloride crystals can still be found in blood stains on cloth soaked in water and buried in the soil using the Teichmann test but limited to the 9th day of exposure.

Background. On stage IB2 and IIA2 of cervical cancer standard treatment such as neoadjuvant chemotherapy is required. The changes in tumor size of this therapy is influenced by several factors, among others are Age, Hb, and BMI.Objective. To determine the relationship of Age, Hb, and BMI with changes in tumor size to neoadjuvant chemotherapy of servical cancerMethods. This of research was analytical research with using a cohort retrospective design with a total sample of 35 patients. The research instrument used was a medical record then analyzed with a with a dependent sample t-test and simple regression linier correlation test.Results. The result obtained a moderate negative power relationship between age and changes in tumor size (R= -0,412 ; P= 0,014), and there was no significant relationship between changes in tumor size with hemoglobin rate ( R= -0,107 ; P= 0,541), and BMI ( R= -0,117 ; P= 0,545).Conclusion. There is a significant relationship between age and changes in tumor size, and there is no significant relationship between hemoglobin and body mass index with changes in tumor size.

Abstract

Background: P. berghei is a parasite that causes malaria in small rodents. This parasite is analogous to P. falciparum which causes severe malaria in humans with the highest risk of death compared to 4 other plasmodium species. Complications of falciparum malaria in renal microcirculation is AKI (Acute Kidney Injury). AKI is preceded by the incidence of ATN (Acute Tubular Necrosis) and MPGN (Mesangioproliferative Glomerulonephritis) with ATN being the highest prevalence. Objective: This study aims to determine the histopathological appearance of renal tubules of white mice Mus musculus Balb/C which are infected with P. berghei. Methods: Descriptive analysis method with quantitative approach is used in this study. The study was conducted at the Anatomical Pathology Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University. The study was conducted since February to October 2020. The sample size was determined by the Federer formula (2008). Results: Percentage of renal tubular cell damage which were 8.42% for the control group, 4.52% for the pellet extract group, and 2.74% for supernatant extract group. Conclusion: The study concluded that highest percentage of kidney tubular cell damage was found in the kidney of mice immunization with the control group, and the lowest percentage of kidney tubular cell damage was found in the kidney of mice immunization with supernatant extract.
