One of studies that plays a role in human identification in disaster and crime is forensic odontology. There are several methods of identification in forensic odontology, one of the alternative methods is cheiloscopy which is used to identify lip print pattern. Lip print pattern is identical in each person, lip print can identify gender and human race. Mentawai ethnic is a part of Proto-Melayu race which dominates Mentawai island district area. Familial relationship in Mentawai ethnic is patrilineal the tribe is derived from father’s tribe. This study aimed to compare the shape of lip print pattern between Mentawai original ethnic and Mentawai mixed ethnic. This study is a descriptive study with cross-sectional approach. The samples in this study were 16 pairs of Mentawai ethnic and 16 pairs of mixed Mentawai ethnic, the sample were selected using purposive sampling method. Lip print in study models were marked using colour pen, and the shape pattern of lip prints were observed and measured according to Suzuki and Tsuchihashi classification. Results of this study showed that there are differences in the pattern of lip prints between Mentawai ethnic and mixed Mentawai ethnic. Mentawai ethnic has dominan type of lip prints is type I, type II, and type IV while mixed Mentawai ethnic has dominan type of lip prints is type IV, type I, dan type III. The conclusion is there is a difference pattern of lip prints due to racial factors.

The most common complaint reported by patients in denture wearing is loose denture, caused by lack of retention. In the complete denture wearing, saliva plays an important role in retention. A well-fitting denture base to supporting tissues and the presence of adequate border seals will provide optimal denture retention. This condition can be achieved if it is supported by adequate volume, flow, and consistency of saliva. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between flow rate and viscosity of saliva with complete denture retention in Andalas Dental Collage and Hospital. This study used a cross sectional design. Thirty patients of complete denture wearers at the Andalas Dental Collage and Hospital were included in this study. Samples were selected through consecutive sampling method. Data were collected by using medical records, saliva viscosity assesstment, salivary flow rate measurement, and complete denture retention examination. Data were analyzed by Mann Whitney tes with p< 0,05. There was a significant relationship between salivary flow rate and maxillary complete denture retention (p= 0,002) and there was a significant relationship between saliva viscosity and maxillary complete denture retention (p= 0,002). However there was no relationship between salivary flow rate and mandibular complete denture retention (p= 0.101) and there was no relationship between saliva viscosity and mandibular complete denture retention (p= 0,223). The conclusion of this study was that the flow rate and viscosity of saliva was associated with maxillary complete denture retention yet was not associated with mandibular denture retention.

Debris is food residued that found on the surface of the teeth. Accumulation of debris will trigger plaque formation, causing dental caries. Debris surface area evaluated by using the debris index. One way to reduce the debris index is to eat foods that contain water and fiber such as cane and yam, because it can help the self-cleansing and stimulate salivary flow in the mastication process. The objective of the study was to find out the effect of cane and yam chewing to change the debris index in children aged 8-9 years at Adabiah Elementary School Padang. This study used a quasi experiment method with two group pretest and posttest design that used purposive sampling with a sample of 44 students and consisted of two treatment groups. Group 1 was given the instruction to chew cane in the first day and group 2 to chew yam in the second day. The results of the study is average debris index before and after chewing a cane decreased by 0,522 and chewing a yam decreased by 0,497. Paired T-Test test results showed the value of p=0.001 (p<0.05) between before and after treatment in each treatment groups. The Independent T-Test showed that the value of p=0.581 (p>0.05) between treatment groups. The Conclusion showed chewing cane and yam for children aged 8-9 years at Adabiah Elementary School Padang has an effect in decresing the debris index, but there is no significant change between both of them.

Dental clinic is one type of privateowned service enterprise providing dental and oral health services. In the current global era, dental clinics must be able to compete with other dental health facilities. Dental clinics are required to manage effectively clinical management, especially in financial accounting. Unit cost calculation using Activity Based Costing (ABC) method is a modern calculation. It has been implemented in several health facilities. The basic concept of ABC is a product derived from activities that will consume costs. The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the application of unit cost calculations with ABC in dental clinics. So it can formulated four steps of unit cost calculation with ABC as follows: preparation of data collection, data collection, ABC calculation of the first stage, ABC calculation of the second stage. The results of the calculation of unit cost with ABC are clinical financial accounting data which are used as a consideration in making desicion of the clinical strategy.

Background: Dental plaque is a soft, structured, calcified layer of bacteria that accumulates and attaches to the surface of the tooth. Efforts are made to eliminate and prevent plaque on the surface of the tooth by plaque control. Plaque control can be done mechanically, chemically, or a combination of both. Chemical control is done by using toothpaste. Catechin gambier toothpaste are polyphenolic compounds that have antibacterial activity which can prevent adhesion, inhibit the enzyme activity of glucosyltransferase and kills plaque forming bacteria. Objective: To determine the effect of catechin gambier on decreasing dental plaque index. Methods: This study is a true experimental study with pre-test and post-test control group design, conducted in March – April 2019. The subjects of this study were 44 students of Faculty of Dentistry, Andalas University. The subjects were divided into two groups, one group used catechin gambier toothpaste and an control group used placebo. Plaque index was calculated using an Turesky-Gilmore-Glickman of Quingley-Hein. Data was analyzed by t-test. Results: Average of dental plaque index in treatment group was higher than placebo group. Independent t-test showed that there was significant difference of dental plaque index beetwen two groups (p<0,001). Conclusion: Catechin gambier toothpaste can reduce dental plaque index.

Over-retained primary tooth is a condition of deciduous tooth that is retained beyond time of exfoliation, which should completely exfoliate at the end of the age of 12 years. This condition can cause delay in eruption of permanent tooth and thus lead to malocclusion and other orthodontic problems. One of the several reasons this condition happen is malnutrition. The purpose of this research is to determine the correlation between nutritional status and over-retained primary tooth among children aged 13 to 15 years at Junior High School 5 of Padang City. This research was an analytic observational study. The respondents were 95 students of Junior High School 5 of Padang. Respondents chosen with a Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling. This study determine that there are about 21,1% underweight respondents and 78,9% normal-overweight respondents. There are 45 retained primary teeth from 24 respondents. About 25,3% respondents had over-retained primary tooth with the highest prevalence occurred in maxilla with the mostly retained teeth was left canine (20%). From the Chi-Square test obtained p value = 1 is greater than the value that is meaningful probability (>0,05) which means there is no a significant correlation between nutritional status and over-retained primary tooth among children aged 13 to 15 years. The conclusion is there is no a significant value correlation between nutritional status and over-retained primary tooth among children aged 13 to 15 years.

Complete denture wearers were mostly complained with the uncomfortable and less retention of their denture especially mandibular denture. Alveolar ridge resorption leads to decrease in the size of denture-bearing area, therefore reducing denture retention. There are many factors that cause loss retention, which are closely related to alveolar ridge height. The aim of the study is to determine the relationship between mandibular residual ridge height and complete denture retention in Andalas Dental Collage and Hospital. Methods: This study used a cross sectional design, with total sampel of 30 complete denture wearers. Samples was selected through Consecutive Sampling Method. Data was collected by using medical record, panoramic radiograph, and denture retention examination that were analyzed by Chi-Square test with p<0.05. Results: There was not a significant relationship between mandibular residual ridge height and denture retention (p>0.05). The conclusion of this study was the denture retention is not associated with mandibular residual ridge height in Andalas Dental Collage and Hospital.
