Abstract

The existence of a monodisciplinary approach leaves no room for discussion between the sciences. There needs to be an interconnection and integration approach so that some sciences can reveal ideas to solve the problems faced. The focus of this research is on the comparison of the thoughts of M. Amin Abdullah and Mehdi Golshani on the integration of scientific interconnections. This research is library research through data collection techniques by searching for sources, either articles, books, or other sources relevant to the topic of discussion. After collecting the data, it is selected, analyzed, and conclusions formulated. The results showed that Mehdi Golshani supported the integration of scientific interconnection, but only for religion and science. In contrast to the perspective of M. Amin Abdullah, who created the idea of interconnection between religious science and general science, not only science was described through spider webs. M. Amin Abdullah assumes that religion and general science must be open to each other, even though each science has characteristics. With openness, it can create space for discussion so that what is debated as a problem can be criticized to produce a more comprehensive opinion.

Abstract

Nationalism can be seen as a double-edged sword, which functions as a binding of a nation's identity but can also trigger Islamophobia and terrorism. After the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States, the country began accusing various groups and countries of being involved in acts of terrorism through Islamophobia by promoting its nationalist spirit. This research aims to explore the side of nationalism that can contribute to the rise of Islamophobia and terrorism in the United States. The methods used in this study are historical methods and radical hermeneutics with a qualitative approach. The September 11, 2001, attacks in the United States indicate the existence of four stages that affect the development of Islamophobia and terrorism in the United States, namely: Events that create deep fear and trauma in American society, agents and mass media who began to spread fear excessively, so that the American people increasingly felt threatened and sought protection, the emergence of a figure who is considered a savior by the people of the United States, who then instigates other groups with the spirit of nationalism so that there is a division in the society of the United States; and the incited people of the United States began to demand revenge against a person or group, namely Muslims.

Abstract

The discourse of Islamic theology among Muslim scholars has experienced fierce debates related to takfiri (in the Ali group) and mihnah (Mu'tazilah scholars' investigation of Qadi) on human deeds, including the persecution of followers of the Wahdatul Wujud school in Indonesia. This article aims to examine theodity in the debate to avoid killing and disbelieving behavior and interpret the destination in the conflict between oral and literal theological firqah that affects active evil due to evil inspired by the ability to achieve shallow believers (ijmali), simple believers (tafshili), complete believers (tafshilimutammim), perfect believers (tafshili mukammil) and special believers (tafshili khususiyat). This article is a literal study that examines the theoretical thinking of Islamic firqah with critical analysis. This article finds that oral theology always adheres to the essence leading to sophisticated logic, while literal theology holds to the truth of the combined interpretation of reason-revelation. Oral theology is a theology without reference to the book of mu'tabarah (legacy) so that theological discussions are often framed in freespeech while literal theology obliges itself to hold on to the book of mu'tabarah. The logic of theology rests on the logic of burhani and kammiyah which is patterned of tanzih-tasbih (pure-holy) and nafi-itsbat (negation-inaugurate).

Abstract

The MUI fatwa related to interreligious greetings has created polemics in Indonesian society, particularly in the context of Islamic moderation. This fatwa prohibits interreligious greetings which are considered to damage the purity of Islamic teachings that affect social relations, especially in families that have different beliefs. This article aims to analyse the impact of the MUI fatwa on the dynamics of family law in Indonesia, especially on families who have different beliefs and their relevance to the principles of Islamic moderation in the context of family law. This article uses a qualitative approach with an analysis of the content of the MUI fatwa related to greetings in family law, and interviews with family law experts and religious leaders who understand the implications of the fatwa on family relations in interfaith Indonesian society. This article shows that the MUI Fatwa causes tension in families of different beliefs regarding interfaith greetings. This fatwa also shows the tension between maintaining religious identity and maintaining family harmony. In the context of family law, this fatwa affects basic principles such as respect for religious differences and the values of inclusivity in families of different religions. This article offers a new perspective that connects the MUI fatwa related to interfaith greetings with family law in Indonesia.

Abstract

The debate over non-religious music in Islam reflects an epistemological polarization in Indonesia's digital space, represented by Yufid TV and Bincang Syariah. Yufid TV based on a literal Salafi interpretation, rejecting music by referring to the Islamic doctrine of the hadith. This study aims to investigate how Islamic authority is negotiated through discourse on non-religious music across two prominent digital platforms, Yufid TV and Bincang Syariah.com. Methodologically, it employs Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to examine the textual, discursive, and socio-cultural dimensions of how both platforms construct, disseminate, and legitimize religious interpretation within the digital public sphere. The findings reveal that Yufid TV constructs a puritan discourse grounded in literalist interpretation, portraying music as a deviation from the purity of Islamic teachings. In contrast, Bincang Syariah adopts a contextual and maqaṣid-oriented approach, framing music as an ethical and cultural expression. Audience responses demonstrate a significant epistemological polarization, reflecting the broader transformation of religious authority from traditional institutions to digital spaces. Academically, this article contributes to contemporary Islamic studies by bridging discourse analysis and digital religion research, highlighting how online media functions as a new arena for ijtihad and the negotiation of religious legitimacy within modern Muslim societies

Abstract

The debate on the use of knowledge sources in writing Islamic history is widely debated by scholars, both Muslims and non-Muslims. However, there is a stigmatized aspect that is forgotten to be used as a source of historical purification, namely the irfani area. This article aims to examine irfani epistemology as a methodological basis in writing Islamic history. The focus of this study is to examine the limitations of the positivistic-empirical method in reconstructing objective Islamic history, the position of manuscripts, chronicles, and oral traditions in the classification of primary historical sources, and transcendental interviews as an alternative source criticism method. The method used in this study is library research with a qualitative approach. This study reveals how the irfani approach can be an alternative method in writing Islamic history in the archipelago. This article contributes to strengthening comprehensive methods and approaches to writing Islamic history. Transcendental interviews can be used as an alternative source criticism method to verify the originality and validity of information in manuscripts, chronicles, and oral traditions. This article contributes to the development of sources of Islamic history writing with irfani approaches and methods that are in direct contact with authoritative societies
The Legacy of Descartes Philosophy: Rational Doubt and Modern Thought

Abstract

Rene Descartes, through his concept of universal doubt and the famous phrase “cogito ergo sum,” deepened the understanding of epistemology and is still central to both philosophical and scientific discussions. It presents a problem and hence questions examining how relevant Descartes philosophy holds in the current world relationships, such as drifting towards the subjectivity-objectivity theme in epistemology. This study employs qualitative features showcasing the interpretative nature of the analysis using texts of Descartes, including Meditationes de Prima Philosophia, Discours de la Methode, and multiple contemporary critiques. Moreover, distinct conclusions are reached on the various implications of Descartes subjectivism and dualism, functioning towards a more comprehensive epistemology. It turns out that Descartes method and rationalism were equally significant factors that contributed to the emergence of several modern scientific paradigms and epistemological frameworks. Criticism is, however, received, especially on the paradox of error and solipsism. The final analysis of the silico experiment shows Descartes exclusion of nonargumentative elements from epistemological cores. It enables a considerable degree of understanding of the radicalism of the stance towards knowledge validity, the object, and its definition as meaning of consciousness and issues of conscience; several of these indeed require an interdisciplinary approach.
