Journal in Islamic Studies published by the Institute for Student Studies and Empowerment IAIN Purwokerto. Subjects include textual study and fieldwork with various perspectives on law, philosophy, mysticism, history, art, theology, and more. Initially, the journal only functioned as a print and electronic journal media that accommodated and published research results from theses/final assignments and/or part of theses/final assignments for students of IAIN Purwokerto S.1 and S.2, from multidisciplinary sciences. However, due to later developments with a wider audience, the journal has managed to invite scholars and researchers outside the Institute to contribute. Thus, Indonesian and non-Indonesian scholars have enriched studies published in journals. Although from the start Raushan Fikr did not present highly qualified scientific articles, the improvement — in terms of format, style, and academic quality — never stopped. Now with articles written in Indonesian, Arabic and English and with fair peer-review procedures, Raushan Fikr continues to publish research and studies related to Islamic studies with various dimensions and approaches. Raushan Fikr, published twice a year (1 volume and 2 numbers) in January and July, has always placed Islam and Muslims in the main focus of academic inquiry and invited comprehensive observations on Islam as a theological belief and system of society and Muslims as those who practice religion with many sides. This journal, serving as a forum for Islamic studies in Indonesia and other parts of the world in a local and challenging global context, supports theme-focused studies and interdisciplinary studies. Raushan Fikr has become a medium for diffusion and exchange of ideas and research findings, in such a way that researchers, writers and readers from various learning traditions have interacted in a scientific way.

Abstract

This article examines the rejection of a polygamous marriage legalization request at the West Jakarta Religious Court through Decision Number 1548/Pdt.G/2019/PA.JB, utilizing a critical legal studies perspective. The research is grounded in a multidimensional theoretical framework, incorporating elements of critical legal studies and statutory interpretation to scrutinize the judges’ legal interpretations. Methodologically, the study employs a rigorous approach, combining qualitative analysis of judicial decisions with theoretical insights from legal studies. The findings reveal the judges’ systematic interpretation of relevant legal provisions and highlight the tension between legal certainty, justice, and utility. The theoretical implications suggest a need for legal scholars and practitioners to reexamine prevailing paradigms and consider alternative frameworks that prioritize justice and social utility

Abstract

KH. Djamaluddin Amien, a notable figure in Muhammadiyah, has addressed the organization's lack of educational institutions focused on scholarship, academic excellence, and tarjih (jurisprudence selection). He established five key institutions: laboratory schools (labschools), pesantren (Islamic boarding schools), ma’had (Islamic higher education institutions), and tarjih education. This study explores his intellectual contributions and the foundational principles of these ulama (Islamic scholars) regeneration institutions at Unismuh Makassar. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research integrates pedagogical, historical, sociological, philosophical, and anthropological perspectives. KH. Djamaluddin emphasized three core aspects for education: faith and worship to Allah SWT, humanity's responsibility as caliphs to develop and prosper the earth. These elements are critical for individual and national progress. He championed the ethos of “ulema and aristocracy,” actualized through the establishment of various institutions at Unismuh Makassar, including Labschool SMP Unismuh Makassar, Labschool SMA 1 Unismuh Makassar, Pesantren Darul Fallaah Bissoloro Unismuh Makassar, Ma’had Albirr Unismuh Makassar, and Education for Ulama Tarjih Muhammadiyah (PUTM) Unismuh Makassar. These institutions aim to cultivate scholars proficient in tarjih and contribute to advancing Islamic education in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines multicultural education through the lens of Amin Abdullah, a notable Indonesian Muslim scholar. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach, it reviews his works to elucidate his perspective. Abdullah’s ideas address Indonesia’s diverse social and cultural landscape, emphasizing intercultural understanding and tolerance, particularly in the post-Suharto era, marked by the resurgence of ethnic and religious identities. The article defines multicultural education and its goals, explores the influence of organizations like Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama on Abdullah’s thought, and discusses the implications for Indonesian education. It advocates for inclusive curricula, tolerance promotion, teacher training, and multicultural materials, while addressing challenges such as resistance from conservative groups. Integrating perspectives from other scholars, it offers a comparative analysis within the broader discourse on multicultural education, enhancing understanding of integrating cultural and religious diversity into Indonesian education, while noting potential limitations and practical application difficulties

Abstract

This study applies J. Powell’s theory of acculturation to analyze the cultural synthesis in the Tabot ceremony, examining the mutual influences between Shia traditions and Bengkulu’s indigenous practices. Utilizing a descriptive-qualitative methodology, the research involves comprehensive library research for historical and cultural contexts, complemented by fieldwork with the Kerukunan Keluarga Tabot (KTT), the tradition’s custodians. Data analysis follows a structured three-stage process: reduction, display, and conclusion drawing/verification. This approach ensures a thorough and accurate interpretation of findings. The Tabot ceremony commemorates the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussein bin Ali bin Abi Talib, in the battle against Ubaidillah bin Zaid’s forces in Karbala, Iraq, on the 10th of Muharram, 61 Hijri (681 AD). Initiated by Sheikh Burhanuddin, also known as Imam Senggolo, in 1685, the first Tabot celebration marked his union with a Bengkulu native, founding the Tabot lineage. This annual event spans from the 1st to the 10th of Muharram. Although originally a Shia Islamic rite, the Tabot ceremony transformed under the influence of Sunni Islam in Bengkulu, leading the descendants of Shia propagators to fervently adopt Sunni Islam. Despite this shift, they continue to observe the Tabot Ritual as a “universal Islamic religious rite” highlighting the doctrinal harmony between Shia and Sunni Islam. Thus, the Tabot Ritual is upheld as crucial for preserving and perpetuating ancestral heritage

Abstract

This study investigates the efficiency of Islamic banking in Indonesia from 2018 to 2021 through the application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), incorporating Islamic principles. The analysis utilizes secondary financial data from four Islamic banks, sourced from the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and other researchers. The input variables considered include third-party funds allocated for profit-sharing and labor costs, while the output variables consist of revenue derived from the management of public funds and other operational income. The DEA results indicate fluctuating efficiency levels among the Islamic banks, with Bank Syariah Y consistently achieving 100% efficiency, signifying its status as the most efficient institution. The study identifies that revenue from public fund management negatively impacts the growth of Islamic banks, whereas labor costs and other operational income positively influence their development. These findings highlight areas requiring improvement and the factors driving efficiency in the development of Islamic banking in Indonesia.

Abstract

Online transportation has transformed the transport industry by offering practical and innovative solutions embraced by the public. This study evaluates the impact of ease of use, usefulness, price, and online promotion on the intention to reuse online transportation services, with Muslim consumer awareness as a moderating variable. Focusing on Grab users in Jakarta, the research uses a quantitative approach with 110 respondents from South and Central Jakarta, analyzed using Warp PLS. The results show that ease of use, usefulness, and online promotion positively and significantly affect reuse intention, while price has a negative and significant impact. Muslim consumer awareness moderates the effects of ease of use, usefulness, and online promotion on reuse intention but does not moderate the effect of price. These insights aid online transportation service providers in crafting effective marketing strategies for Muslim consumers in Jakarta.

Abstract

The global ecological crisis has sparked widespread debate about the human-nature relationship since the 1960s. Lynn White, Jr. criticized the anthropocentric tendencies in Judeo-Christian traditions, which he argued contributed to environmental degradation. In contrast, the principles of environmental conservation in the Qur’an remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining ecological concepts in the Qur’an and their implications for environmental sustainability. Using a qualitative literature review methodology, we systematically analyze relevant Qur’anic verses and scientific interpretations to elucidate these principles. Our findings reveal two key concepts: first, the Qur’an integrates environmental stewardship with faith, asserting that true belief necessitates environmental responsibility. Second, the Qur’an designates humans as stewards (khalīfah) of the Earth, tasked with its wise management and care. This study contributes to the discourse on religion and ecology by highlighting the potential role of the Qur’an in promoting sustainable environmental practices

Abstract

The study investigates the implementation of zakah as a strategy for community empowerment in Gunung Binjai village, Balikpapan city, via the Zakah Community Development (ZCD) system. Utilizing descriptive qualitative methods with a socio-economic approach, the research evaluates the system through maqasid al-syariah. Findings indicate that the ZCD system enhances the welfare of zakah recipients (mustahik) in line with maqasid al-syariah principles, particularly daruriyatul khams, which include protecting religion, life, intellect, progeny, and property. This system significantly improves mustahik socio-economic well-being, illustrating zakah’s role beyond charity as a tool for societal transformation. The study provides empirical evidence and a detailed analysis, highlighting the ZCD system as a model for effective community empowerment and demonstrating the compatibility of Islamic principles with contemporary socio-economic development. It advocates for a holistic approach rooted in maqasid al-syariah to achieve sustainable progress in marginalized communities.

Abstract

This study delves into the utilization, reporting, and accountability of Village Fund Allocation in Panciro Village. Adopting a phenomenological approach, data were collected through budget realization reports and interviews with village officials. The results reveal that Panciro Village adheres sufficiently to financial management protocols, as evidenced by proper documentation in the cash book and timely submission of reports to higher authorities. However, while current accountability mechanisms are functional, the abstract lacks an in-depth exploration of the specific strategies employed and the challenges faced in ensuring transparency and preventing fund misappropriation. Moreover, the abstract would benefit from contextualizing the findings through comparative analysis with neighboring villages or national standards. Additionally, future research could involve longitudinal studies to evaluate the sustainability of the implemented accountability measures and their long-term impact on village development.
