Journal in Islamic Studies published by the Institute for Student Studies and Empowerment IAIN Purwokerto. Subjects include textual study and fieldwork with various perspectives on law, philosophy, mysticism, history, art, theology, and more. Initially, the journal only functioned as a print and electronic journal media that accommodated and published research results from theses/final assignments and/or part of theses/final assignments for students of IAIN Purwokerto S.1 and S.2, from multidisciplinary sciences. However, due to later developments with a wider audience, the journal has managed to invite scholars and researchers outside the Institute to contribute. Thus, Indonesian and non-Indonesian scholars have enriched studies published in journals. Although from the start Raushan Fikr did not present highly qualified scientific articles, the improvement — in terms of format, style, and academic quality — never stopped. Now with articles written in Indonesian, Arabic and English and with fair peer-review procedures, Raushan Fikr continues to publish research and studies related to Islamic studies with various dimensions and approaches. Raushan Fikr, published twice a year (1 volume and 2 numbers) in January and July, has always placed Islam and Muslims in the main focus of academic inquiry and invited comprehensive observations on Islam as a theological belief and system of society and Muslims as those who practice religion with many sides. This journal, serving as a forum for Islamic studies in Indonesia and other parts of the world in a local and challenging global context, supports theme-focused studies and interdisciplinary studies. Raushan Fikr has become a medium for diffusion and exchange of ideas and research findings, in such a way that researchers, writers and readers from various learning traditions have interacted in a scientific way.

Abstract

Numerous acts of terrorism in Indonesia highlight the insufficient understanding and appreciation of moderation values. To combat terrorism and radicalism, a multifaceted approach is essential. This study examines the effectiveness of a deradicalization program that integrates Pancasila education and promotes moderate values through religious moderation education. The research posits that moderate Islamic education can prevent students from adopting radical behaviors and thoughts. Consequently, the graduates of Islamic educational institutions are better equipped to embrace religious diversity and respect differing beliefs. This qualitative study employs contextual and textual analysis of relevant articles to explore this topic. The findings reveal that the internalization of Pancasila values involves a three-step process: transformation, transaction, and internalization. These steps are crucial for harmonizing religious understanding and promoting tolerance. This study underscores the importance of embedding Pancasila values in educational curricula to foster a more moderate and inclusive society

Abstract

This study explores the handling of tradition (turath) within Arab society, particularly in the context of modernity and progress. It focuses on the contributions of ‘Abed al-Jabiri, a prominent Muslim philosopher, whose ideas underscore the value of tradition during times of rapid social change. Utilizing a descriptive analysis method, this research examines the interpretation of the Qur’an and Hadith to assess the relevance of ancient scholarly findings to contemporary issues. The study highlights how Islamic feminism, viewed through the lens of Irfani epistemology, seeks to reconstruct these classical insights to align with modern ideals. Islamic feminism is presented as a humanistic ideal rooted in conscience, guided by moral and ethical principles encompassing universal goodness (ma’ruf), individual goodness (khair), happiness (sa’adah), and virtuous deeds (fadhilah). This paper contributes to the discourse on integrating traditional Islamic thought with modern feminist principles, offering a perspective enriched with ethical and spiritual dimensions.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the perspective of Islamic law on the implementation of price reduction systems in the marketing of adult and children’s clothing, as well as men’s and women’s apparel. The research explores the conditions under which discounted goods are permissible according to Islamic principles. A qualitative method was employed, analyzing relevant Islamic legal texts and contemporary market practices. The findings indicate that Islamic law permits price reduction systems, provided they meet specific conditions. The seller may set a base price and offer discounts, which must be agreed upon by both parties involved in the transaction. The process must ensure mutual consent without coercion or fraud (gharar). The transaction proceeds with a sale and purchase contract if an agreement is reached. Otherwise, the transaction does not occur. This study contributes to understanding permissible marketing strategies within Islamic economics, highlighting the importance of fairness and mutual agreement in trade practices.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of population growth, inflation rate, and foreign direct investment on economic growth in eight developing countries from the perspective of Islamic economics. Secondary data were sourced from the World Bank for the period 2016 to 2021. Panel data regression analysis was employed to test the established hypotheses, considering these independent variables. The results indicate that population growth, inflation rate, and foreign direct investment do not have a significant effect on economic growth in these countries during the study period. These findings are interpreted within the framework of Islamic economics, which emphasizes principles of economic justice, wealth distribution, and resource management in accordance with Shariah law. This research provides deep insights into how conventional economic factors interact with Islamic economic principles and their implications for economic policy in developing countries

Abstract

This research addresses the reliance of the Muslim community on social media influencers, which contradicts Islamic teachings that emphasize hoping only in Allah. A qualitative approach is used, with primary data from Qur’anic verses on al-Ṭama’ in Tafsir Al-Misbah and Al-Munir, and secondary data from relevant literature. The study descriptively analyzes the thematic concept of al-Ṭama’ in prayer, highlighting sincere and exclusive hope in Allah. The findings reveal that the Qur’anic concept of al-Ṭama’ balances hope and fear (khauf) in worship, emphasizing prayer as vertical communication with Allah to increase faith and closeness to Him. Implementation in the Muslim community involves belief in Allah, submission, consistency, right intention, and steadfastness in prayer.

Abstract

This study explores the gap between the ideals and practical application of spiritual education, focusing on persistent Islamophobia in Indonesia. Ideally, spiritual education fosters tolerance and humanism, accommodating diverse religious expressions like the niqab, burqa, cingkrang pants, and full beards, aligned with Islam’s principles. However, ongoing Islamophobia reveals significant flaws in its implementation. This qualitative literature review synthesizes primary and secondary data from scholarly works over the past decade, using Iceberg and U-Theory methods within a phenomenological framework. The study aims to identify spiritual concepts that mitigate Islamophobia, especially post-2002 Bali terrorism. Findings show that enhancing spiritual education and promoting religious moderation are crucial for reducing Islamophobia by providing accurate understandings of Islamic teachings. Misinterpretations and extremist ideologies, rather than Islam's core tenets, are the root causes of Islamophobic sentiments

Abstract

This article expands Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotic studies on Qur’anic verses by analyzing the word "naqotu" in the story of Prophet Saleh to reveal its symbolism and significance. The central question is how to apply Saussure’s semiotic theory to Qur’an, Surah Al-A’raf verse 3. Using library research and analysis of interpretive texts and semiotic literature, the findings indicate that, according to Saussure’s theory, "naqotu" (female camel) as a signifier is distinguished by its physical traits from male camels. As a signified, this she-camel symbolizes a miracle demonstrating God’s power, exceeding the Thamud's skills in stone carving and architecture, and represents wealth and prosperity in Arab culture. This research enriches Qur’anic studies and semiotics by offering new interpretations of symbolism in the story of Prophet Saleh.
