Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explore the effectiveness of using quartet card media in improving students’ mastery of Arabic vocabulary. This research adopts a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The data collected comprise both qualitative and quantitative types. Qualitative data were obtained through documentation and relevant literature reviews, while quantitative data were gathered through test results conducted before and after the implementation of the media. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 23. The findings revealed that the student’s average score in Arabic vocabulary before using of the quartet card media was 84, which increased significantly to 99 after the treatment. Moreover, the N-Gain Percent calculation showed a result of 87.5%, which is categorized as high. This indicates that the use of quartet cards as a learning medium is effective in enhancing students’ vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, quartet card media can be considered a valuable tool in Arabic language learning, especially for vocabulary development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of kalam learning by using contextual-based teaching modules at Al-Amanah Al-Gontory Islamic Boarding School, South Tangerang. The background of this study id the obstacles in learning kalam which still uses traditional methods and the lack of teaching materials that are in accordance with the context of the daily lives of students. This study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-eksperimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The population in this study were all third grade students of Al-Amanah Al-Gontory Boarding School with a total of 185 students. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely class III A with 20 students as the esperimental class and class III B with 20 students as the control class. Data collection methods used observation, documentation ans tests. Data analysis used normality test, T-test (independent sample t test) and N-gain analysis. The results showed that the results of the T-test an N-gain analysis showed a significant difference between the learning outcomes of the experimental and control groups. The average N-gain of the experimental group is 77,04% and can be said to be effective. While he control group only reached 10,81% which is included in the ineffective category. This data shows that the use of modules based on contextual approaches can significantly improve students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine the effect of the Make a Match method on Arabic vocabulary (mufrodat) learning among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Sugio Lamongan. Field observations revealed several factors contributing to students’ low comprehension and engagement during the learning process. One key issue is the lack of student practice in mufrodat, such as memorization or interactive activities, as the teaching methods predominantly used by teachers rely on the traditional qirā’ah wa tarjamah (reading and translation) approach. This limited practice has led to suboptimal vocabulary acquisition. Therefore, there is a need for a more effective instructional method to enhance students’ mastery of mufrodat. This research adopts a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and vocabulary mastery tests. The results show that the experimental group achieved a higher post-test average score (91.72) compared to the control group (74.03). An independent sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.00 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the groups. Thus, the Make a Match method significantly improves vocabulary learning compared to traditional teaching methods. Keywords: Make a Match method; Arabic vocabulary; Arabic learning.

Abstract

Recent research confirmed that idioms were one of the most complex aspects of learning English because their meanings were influenced by cultural differences, context, and limitations in the target language. Considering this fact, this study explored idiomatic expressions in the film Bilal: A New Breed of Hero to identify their types and meanings, while emphasizing the urgency of learning idioms in the context of English as a foreign language. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a discourse analysis approach, referencing Fernando's classification of idioms into three categories: pure, semi-literal, and literal. Data in the form of dialogues in the film containing idioms were analyzed through semantic and narrative context studies. The results of the study showed that the majority of idioms fell into the semi-literal categorization, combining literal and figurative meanings. In addition to functioning as stylistic elements, idioms also strengthened characterization, depicted conflicts, and represented Arab-Islamic cultural values. The film Bilal: A New Breed of Hero was considered a suitable subject for study because it presented the use of idioms in an authentic context while reflecting cultural values. Thus, this research was expected to contribute to the development of semantic studies, enrich language learning strategies, and enhance cross-cultural understanding.

Abstract

Writing is a crucial skill in learning English, yet many students, especially in vocational high school, still struggle to master it. One potential solution is the PLEASE strategy, a metacognitive technique that guides students through the writing process and helps them organize ideas effectively. This study investigated its impact on students’ writing. The aim was to find out whether the PLEASE strategy could significantly improve students’ writing skill. A quantitative method was used, involving 75 tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Palembang in the academic year 2024/2025. They were conveniently divided into two groups: X TKJ 1 as the control class with 38 students and X TKJ 2 as the experimental class with 37 students. The data were collected through essay writing tests on a report text over twelve meetings, including a pretest, treatments using the PLEASE strategy, a post-test, and a questionnaire. Results from the paired samples test showed a t (36) = -6.486 with p < 0.001, whereas the independent samples test yielded a t (73) = 2.489 with p = 0.015. These results indicate that the PLEASE strategy significantly improved students’ writing performance and can be considered an effective technique for teaching writing.

Abstract

Speaking ability plays a central role in English learning, yet many vocational high school students still struggle with issues such as restricted vocabulary, low self-confidence, and insufficient opportunities to practice. This research was conducted to investigate how far the Jigsaw technique can contribute to enhancing students’ speaking performance. The study employed a quasi-experimental approach involving two groups of learners: the experimental group, which received lessons through the Jigsaw strategy, and the control group, which was instructed using conventional teaching. The participants consisted of 68 tenth-grade students of SMKN 4 Palembang. Data were obtained from pre-test and post-test activities and were analyzed through paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test. The analysis demonstrated that the experimental group showed a meaningful improvement in speaking ability (Sig. 0.002 < 0.05), whereas the control group did not reach significant progress (Sig. 0.103 > 0.05). Furthermore, the independent sample t-test confirmed that there was a notable difference in achievement between the two groups (Sig. 0.008 < 0.05). Based on these results, it can be concluded that applying the Jigsaw strategy has a positive and effective impact on students’ speaking achievement, making it a recommended method in vocational high school English classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of the Doraemon’s MagicPocket (KAMIDO) learning media using the Make a Match method to enhanceArabic vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at MTsN 4 Banda Aceh.This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) approach usingthe ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development,Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects were 30 seventh-gradestudents. The instruments used included interviews, observations, tests, anddocumentation. Media validation was conducted by material and media experts,yielding results of 96% and 92%, respectively, which fall under the “highly feasible”category. The effectiveness test used the One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Dataanalysis revealed a significant improvement between the pretest score (45.50) andposttest score (88.00). The Paired Sample t-test result showed a significance value(Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference. The N-GainScore value of 0.78 or 78.69% falls into the “effective” category. Based on thesefindings, the KAMIDO learning media combined with the Make a Match methodproved to be effective, engaging, and suitable for teaching Arabic vocabulary,particularly in educational environments with limited technological resources
