Abstract

Through the lens of normative feminism, this article examines the many difficulties experienced by female migrant workers within Taiwan's patriarchal framework. Taiwan's economy has mostly benefited from the labor of migrant workers, most of whom are women. Because of the country's pervasive patriarchal system, these workers frequently face complex gender-based problems. This study explores the overlapping layers of marginalization, exploitation, and discrimination faced by female migrant workers via the lens of normative feminist theory, drawing attention to the many difficulties that these women face as a result of Taiwan's patriarchal norms interacting with the job market, social structures, and cultural prejudices. Utilizing non-participatory observation and internet-based literature research, this article finds that there is a lack of research on gender-based factors that cause these challenges. Though there has been international support from labor protection-focused organizations, there are still limitations and loopholes in the existing legal protections available in Taiwan and sending countries of these workers, causing cases of risks faced by female migrant workers go undocumented at a large number. This study pushes forth the urgency for more robust instruments and government bodies that bind and regulate the treatments and protections towards these female migrant workers.

Abstract

In an era marked by increasing ecological devastation and the intensification of social injustices, literature becomes a vital tool in terms of exploring the interwoven systems of environmental destruction and patriarchal oppression. While Rena Priest's poetry has been acknowledged for its eco-centric narratives, how it relates to ecofeminist thought has yet to receive adequate scrutiny. The following research strives to fill this gap by exploring how Priest's work—Tour of Salmonberry, The Index, and The Forest for the Trees—articulate a critique of dominant patriarchal and capitalist ideologies through the lens of ecofeminism. Through a descriptive qualitative research methodology, the research employs close reading methods to unveil the imagery, language, and symbols by which Priest's poetry conveys messages of resilience, interconnection, and Indigenous ecological knowledge. Priest's poetry goes beyond simple representation of powerful natural forces; it also speaks to silenced communities—most notably women and marginal communities—through the empowering voice of poetry. The research shows that Priest's work contributes to the green literary movement by promoting vital conversations with the natural world, disrupting hierarchical binarism, and promoting integrated somatic ecological justice. The research contributes to the broader ecofeminist discourse in literary study by showing how poetry has the power to serve as a force of change to deconstruct and renegotiate relations between humanity and nature, society, and existing power orders.

Abstract

This research aimed to examine women’s existence in the digital space, focusing specifically on female content creators and audiences as active investors. This research was carried out on social media platforms, YouTube and Telegram, particularly within the Bibit Telegram community. The research highlighted that women possess both knowledge and skills in financial literacy, especially in the area of investments. Simone de Beauvoir’s existentialist feminism was employed as the theoretical framework to explore this phenomenon. A qualitative approach using netnography was adopted to investigate cultural and social interactions within digital spaces. The findings revealed that women's digital presence revolves not around physical appearance but around investment activities. This demonstrates their capability to plan for their financial futures, take on decision- making roles, and effectively manage investment funds. In a broader sense, the research connects this phenomenon to gender equality in finance and the advancement of women’s financial literacy.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of catcalling in religious college environments. The objectives of the study were to describe catcalling behavior, identify forms of catcalling, and map locations where catcalling occurs in colleges. The study used a mixed-methods approach with data collection through surveys that were further in-depth with interviews. Informants were selected using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of students who had experienced catcalling. The results of the study showed that catcalling that occurred among students took the form of whistling, excessive greetings, and compliments that were sexual or demeaning. This form of catcalling caused feelings of discomfort, anxiety, and threat to the victim. Catcalling behavior occurs due to a lack of knowledge that such actions are a form of verbal sexual harassment. In addition, other motives found were the urge to be playful, seek attention, and feelings of superiority from the perpetrator towards the victim. The locations where catcalling occurs are generally in public spaces on campus, such as classroom hallways, parking areas, and gazebos. The analysis was conducted using Michel Foucault's theory of power relations to understand the dynamics of power in the context of catcalling, including how social norms, gender structures, and knowledge shape these harassment practices. This study also found a form of resistance from students, both individually and collectively, to the practice of catcalling through critical awareness and reporting to the authorities. This study is expected to be the basis for developing campus policies that are more responsive to the issue of sexual harassment.

Abstract

The phenomenon of baby shaming is common in our society. Baby Shaming is a form of bullying aimed at babies and toddlers. Although the impression of baby shaming only means joking and small talk, in fact baby shaming is a form of verbal violence that comes from words and comments on social media and is included as cyberbullying because it can offend and even hurt the parents of the baby or toddler who is the victim of baby shaming. Using the netnography research method in an online qualitative approach, this article looks at the phenomenon of baby shaming that occurs on the Instagram accounts of Indonesian artists, namely Tasya Kamila and Shandy Aulia. These two artists who have babies/toddlers experience cyberbullying in the form of baby shaming by netizens. Cyberbullying in the form of baby shaming occurs because society has ideal standards that are seen from body parts such as body size (too thin, fat, short, tall), limb shape (stomach, chest, teeth), skin color (black, white), to hair (thin, curly, bald, infertile).  Baby shaming in the form of cyberbullying that occurs through social media can be categorized as a criminal offense that has been regulated in Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law). This baby shaming will have an impact, especially for the baby's mother both psychologically and socially. There are several things that can be done if you experience this baby shaming, namely not blaming yourself, focusing on child development, and also closing social media accounts and also being ignorant. Whether the comments are in person or through the media, baby shaming can still be categorized as bullying so the culture of small talk that leads to baby shaming must be stopped. This research discusses how toxic masculinity is present, cultivated, and perpetuated in everyday life, examining it from the perspective of Social Psychology theory. The type of approach used in this research is qualitative-descriptive, explaining the phenomena that occur in the community. Primary data sources consist of five informants from Gorontalo, while secondary sources come from references such as books and journals.
