Abstract

Increasing the productivity of cayenne pepper is the main focus in the horticulture sub-sector to meet the increasing market demand. Intensification of cayenne pepper cultivation has an impact on increasing plastic waste from the use of conventional seeds such as trays and polybags. As a solution, seeds with soil block media are introduced as an environmentally friendly seedling innovation that does not produce plastic waste and is of high quality. This study aims to analyze the effect of age variables, education level, land area, length of farming, role of extension workers, role of groups and infrastructure on the interest (feeling of pleasure, attention, awareness and willingness) of farmers in using seeds with soil block media in chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) cultivation. The study was conducted in Tirtomartani Village, Kalasan District, Sleman Regency in November 2024 - March 2025. The method used is quantitative descriptive with multiple linear regression analysis techniques. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires from 60 respondents selected using proportional random sampling techniques. The results of the analysis showed that simultaneously all X variables had a significant effect on farmers' interest in using seeds with soil block media. However, in terms of infrastructure, only facilities and infrastructure showed a significant influence. Therefore, there needs to be a follow-up in the form of empowering farmer groups in the form of optimizing the use of seeds with soil block media as an effort to improve farmers' knowledge, attitudes and skills in using seeds with soil block media

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate consumer preference for creamy ginger salak seed coffee (Salacaffe) with varying ginger concentrations. The case study in this research focused on salak seed coffee produced by D’Kenthos Coffee, owned by PT Sarisa Merapi Group. Salak seed coffee was a low-caffeine coffee alternative with the potential to become a healthy and innovative beverage. The research involved 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling. An organoleptic test was conducted using a hedonic scale to assess the attributes of texture, color, aroma, taste, and aftertaste. Three formulations with different ginger concentrations (600 g, 800 g, and 1000 g) were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests. The results indicated no significant differences in texture, color, and aroma attributes, both in powder and brewed form. However, significant differences were found in the taste and aftertaste attributes, where the formulation with 800 g of ginger received the highest preference due to its balanced spiciness and pleasant aftertaste. This study demonstrated that varying ginger concentrations in creamy ginger salak seed coffee could influence panelist preference, particularly in terms of taste and aftertaste. The formulation with 800 g of ginger was recommended for further development as a creamy ginger salak seed coffee (Salacaffe) beverage product

Abstract

Currently, the market demand for cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is high, but productivity is declining due to the limited availability of quality seeds. Therefore, a sustainable plant breeding program is necessary to produce superior, high-quality varieties. This research aims to determine the heritability and clustering of promising cucumber lines (Cucumis sativus L.) with a medium green color in the fourth generation. The study was conducted from December 2024 to February 2025 at the Teaching Factory Celeban Polbangtan Yogyakarta-Magelang in Tahunan, and Umbulharjo District, Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta, at coordinates 7°48'17"S, 110°22'54"E. The research method employed a single plant approach, involving the planting and observation of each cucumber plant from the promising fourth generation resulting from the crossbreeding of KE 4723 and AGB KE 0316. Quantitative observation data were analyzed using heritability, cluster, and descriptive methods, while qualitative data were collected using cluster analysis methods. Based on the research results, the heritability value for the seven quantitative characters is categorized as high, with a criterion of value ≥ 50%, indicating high effectiveness for selection. The results of the cluster analysis on the diversity of characteristics among strains 01.08, KE 4723, and AGB KE 0316, based on 9 characteristics, reveal 3 clusters: cluster 1 is characterized by light green fruit skin color, cluster 2 by medium green fruit skin color, and cluster 3 by dark green fruit skin color

Abstract

Comprehensive digital changes have influenced farmers' patterns in marketing their agricultural products. Social media now plays an important role in the distribution and promotion of agricultural products. This study reviews 14 scientific articles that have been published over the past decade. The study's findings reveal that social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook facilitate the promotion and distribution of agricultural products directly to consumers. However, the effectiveness of digital marketing is greatly influenced by the level of digital literacy and self-efficacy of farmers in using technology. Some of the challenges faced by farmers include limited training, restricted internet access, and low personal confidence in utilizing social media as an electronic trading platform. Therefore, enhancing farmers' capacity through training, mentoring, and community support is crucial to strengthening the success of digital marketing for agricultural products in Indonesia.

Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata Sturt) is usually grown in monoculture with wide spacing, which stimulates the growth of weeds around the maize. Weed management is mostly carried by chemicals, which could have a negative environmental impact. One technique to reduce this negative impact is the intercropping system. This study aimed to determine the diversity of weeds and the effectiveness of legumes in suppressing weed growth in intercropping systems. The experiment was designed as a single factor randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatment consisted of five types of legumes: groundnut, soybean, kidney bean, cowpea, and mungbean. The control consisted of a monoculture of sweet corn and legumes. The results showed that 33 types of weeds were present in the intercropping system, with the dominant species being Cyperus rotundus, Cynodon dactylon, Physalis angulata, and Phyllanthus niruri. Intercropping with all species of legumes and sweet corn can suppress weed growth without reducing sweet corn yield. Intercropping sweet corn and cowpea had the highest ability to suppress weeds

Abstract

Pruned coffee leaves are often regarded as waste, thus requiring further utilization. This study aimed to determine the caffeine content and organoleptic characteristics (color, aroma, and taste) of coffee leaves through the appropriate roasting duration in the production of tea from robusta coffee leaves. The research was conducted from January to March 2025 in two locations: Tanjung Dalam Village and the Laboratory of the University of Bengkulu. A quantitative analysis method was used, followed by an organoleptic test on four sample treatments: P0 (no roasting), P1 (roasting for 30 minutes), P2 (roasting for 40 minutes), and P3 (roasting for 50 minutes) at a temperature of 40°C. The results showed that the highest caffeine content was found in sample P0 (1.82%), followed by P2 (1.71%), P1 (1.62%), and P3 (1.44%). Meanwhile, the organoleptic test revealed that the most preferred tea by the panelists was P3 (roasting for 50 minutes at 40°C), with an average score of 11.94.
