Abstract

Every house has a yard that can be used to cultivate plants, especially flower plants. A variety of flower plants can live in Indonesia. Flower plants can be used as a source of income. Flower plants can be sold directly, used for family celebrations, wedding anniversaries, graduations and so on. The aim of the community service is to increase the role of housewives in order to increase their awareness toward natural resources around them, especially flowers which are very easy to cultivate. The method used is training given to the members of Pemberdayaan dan Kesejahteraan Keluarga (PKK), and inviting professional trainers in making flower bouquets. Hopefully the training through the community service program can provide skills for PKK members to improve the family economy through the use of flower cultivation.

Abstract

Financial literacy has emerged as a critical aspect of economic empowerment, yet significant disparities persist between countries. According to the 2019 Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA) survey, Australia boasts a financial literacy rate of 64%, while Indonesia lags behind at only 38% (Australia Indonesia Youth Association, 2020). Recognizing this gap, this initiative aims to address the financial literacy needs of Indonesian migrant workers through targeted training programs. Drawing on data from the 2022 National Survey on Financial Literacy and Financial Inclusion (Survei Nasional Literasi dan Inklusi Keuangan/SNLIK), which showed an increase to 49.68% in Indonesia (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, 2022), our community outreach initiative focuses on raising awareness and providing practical knowledge on entrepreneurship among migrant workers. By offering workshops on International Community Outreach with the theme "Raising Entrepreneurial Success Among Indonesian Migrant Workers," this activity aims to equip participants with the skills and inspiration to start their businesses upon returning to Indonesia. Through training sessions on budget management and entrepreneurship, we strive to empower migrant workers to achieve financial independence and contribute to their personal economic well-being. This initiative embodies our commitment to fostering self-sufficiency and economic resilience among Indonesian migrant workers.

Abstract

This activity aims to overcome the problems faced by MSME business actors at the Kemantren Kraton Yogyakarta. Every MSME business player has the same problem, namely a lack of understanding of financial literacy, especially in preparing MSME financial reports and financial management. This has the impact of not separating personal financial records from their business. As a result, businesspeople have difficulty assessing whether their business results are making a profit or a loss. To overcome this problem, a financial literacy program was formed in the form of training on the use of Android-based accounting applications in preparing financial reports. This program was selected due to its user-friendly interface and seamless compatibility with smartphones, making it easy to download and use. The approach to carrying out tasks include providing instruction and support for using the program. The outcomes of this endeavor exhibited a favorable reaction from the individuals involved. Nevertheless, according to the assessment findings, it is important to consistently do this activity, taking into account the time constraints for mentoring. Certain participants still need more coaching.

Abstract

This study addresses the challenges and needs of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia, who encounter issues such as poor living conditions, limited healthcare access, inadequate education, and insufficient legal protection. Wage disparities and job availability in Indonesia drive migration to neighboring countries, but a lack of skills often results in serious problems like job mismatches, human trafficking, and illegal labor. The aim of this community services is to identify the initial needs for developing the Indonesian international migrant community in Malaysia, with synergy between Indonesian universities and international students in Malaysia. The study employs a qualitative approach through interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with migrant workers. Findings indicate that many migrants live in inadequate housing with limited access to clean water and sanitation. They also face significant barriers to accessing healthcare, education for their children, and legal protection. Recommendations include improving housing conditions, enhancing healthcare access, providing formal education for migrant children, ensuring legal protection, and promoting economic empowerment through entrepreneurship and financial management training. Effective development and improved welfare for migrants require collaboration between the government, NGOs, universities, and local communities.

Abstract

Entrepreneurship training is one of the efforts to empower homemakers in improving economic independence within the family. This activity is driven by the importance of women’s roles in supporting household income through creative businesses based on local potential, such as utilising fabric scraps and traditional food ingredients. The training was conducted at the PKK Hall of RT 01 RW 05 Dukuh Plosowangi Wetan, involving 27 PKK members. The method used in this community service activity was Participatory Action Research (PAR), consisting of observation, action (material delivery and practice), and active participation from the participants. The training focused on making scrunchies from fabric scraps and molten cassava balls using natural materials available in the surrounding environment. The results showed that the training ran successfully, as seen from the participants’ enthusiasm and their improved skills in producing both products. The average evaluation score given by participants reached 4.20 on a scale of 1 to 5. Interestingly, one of the participants had already implemented the training results by producing and selling molten cassava balls through a consignment system at nearby stores. This activity has had a positive impact in terms of enhancing skills, boosting entrepreneurial spirit, and raising awareness about utilising waste and local materials for creative business. The training is expected to be a catalyst for the growth of micro-home enterprises within the village community.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the financial literacy of students at Wasilatul Abror Islamic Boarding School in Central Lombok by fostering saving habits and basic financial planning skills. Financial literacy is an essential competency that should be instilled early to build responsible and independent individuals. The program was implemented in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The implementation stage included delivering fundamental financial concepts, simulating personal budgeting, and practicing simple saving activities. The results indicate an improvement in students’ understanding and awareness of financial management. Students began to differentiate between needs and wants, allocate their pocket money more effectively, and set aside a portion for savings. The evaluation phase revealed positive changes in financial behavior and the development of basic life skills in money management. This program demonstrates that Islamic boarding schools can play a strategic role in embedding financial literacy and fostering students’ financial independence, preparing them to face future economic challenges.

Abstract

This activity was carried out to address the challenges faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) at UKM Aliya, Dusun Gamol Balecatur, particularly the limited understanding of financial management. The main issue identified was the absence of separation between personal and business finances, which made it difficult for business owners to assess their financial performance objectively. To enhance financial management capabilities, a financial literacy training program was conducted, covering basic financial management concepts and the practical use of an Android-based accounting application for preparing financial statements. The application was chosen for its accessibility and user-friendly interface, making it suitable for small business operators. The training was implemented through educational sessions and direct mentoring, allowing participants to learn interactively. Based on the evaluation results, participants showed positive responses and improved understanding, although some still required continued guidance due to the limited mentoring time.

Abstract

This community service program aims to boost the capacity of disabled SMEs in Malang Raya through mentoring in storytelling and product photography as a strategy to strengthen inclusive branding. The activity was implemented collaboratively by Universitas Teknologi Yogyakarta (UTY) and Lingkar Sosial Indonesia (Linksos) at the Malang Creative Center, involving disabled MSMEs from Malang City, Batu City, and Malang Regency. The process followed a participatory approach, including planning, training, and evaluation stages. The evaluation was carried out through pre-test and post-test assessments using 12 indicators of narrative and visual skills. The results showed a notable increase in the average Respondent Achievement Level from 3.63 (Good) before the training to 4.01 (Very Good) afterward. The most significant improvements appeared in photography skills and creating attractive product photos, reflecting participants’ better visual ability to present their products both aesthetically and communicatively. The progress in brand storytelling was moderate, indicating the need for additional mentoring to enhance narrative skills for building a consistent brand image. Overall, this training successfully improved the visual and narrative communication abilities of disabled SMEs participants, fostering more inclusive and competitive branding practices.
