Abstract

Over the past few years, worries about the quality of online learning in higher education have increased. There has not been much research done on the quality of online education. It has been extensively researched how educators and administrators feel about online learning. In this qualitative study, we questioned students from different universities in Pakistan. The interview will be conducted through the WhatsApp video call; our respondents were thirty-five males and thirty-eight females. We interviewed seventy-three students. Materials on paper and online education data were gathered. They examined both the positive and negative aspects of students. They also learned what caused these occurrences. The interviews showed that students liked instructional interfaces that were flexible, inexpensive, based on electronic research, easy to find on the Internet, and well-designed. The students' bad experiences were caused by several things, such as slow teacher feedback, a lack of technical support, a lack of self-control and motivation, a feeling of isolation, repeated teaching methods, and poorly organized course material. The results can help teachers better comprehend how their students feel about online education.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought drastic changes in various institutions worldwide. It catalyzed the implementation of new-normal learning through alternative learning modalities. This descriptive phenomenological study aimed to explore the challenges and opportunities encountered by working students during the pandemic. Using criteria, the researchers have purposively chosen nine (9) working students from a public state university. A written interview questionnaire was utilized to gather data, which the researchers sent to the informants through the Messenger application. The informants were instructed to answer the question using Gibbs’ Reflective Model as a guide, where they needed to elaborate the description of their experience, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion, and action plan. The gathered data were analyzed using thematic data analysis. The results included themes such as themes (1) challenges perceived and (2) opportunities gained while working and studying. Further, the researchers generated six (6) categories from the analyzed data. It revealed that working students during the pandemic encounter challenges since they (1) recognize emotional and physical-self limitations and (2) experience lesser in-person connection and mobilization. Regardless, they gained opportunities (3) to develop character and skills, (4) in their finances, (5) to establish a positive outlook, and (6) to develop coping mechanisms. Thus, working students encounter obstacles in this new normal yet obtain benefits integral to their education and personal development.

Abstract

This study seeks to determine how a media video practicum based on science affects students' capacity for critical thought in class VII Junior High School 4 Satu Atap Barusjahe. Quasi-experimental research using a research design is the method used. the non-equivalent control group design for the pretest and posttest. This research’s subject is Junior High-class VII-A (Control Class/ 32 students), and class VII-B (Eksperimen Class/ 32 students). The data collection technique used a pretest and posttest. The data analysis used inferential statistics and parametric descriptive and used IBM SPSS Statistic 26. Results of posttest ability students’ critical thinking are (2,659) > (1,677), showing that there are differences in the ability of students' critical thinking. When comparing the ability of students’ critical thinking in the experiment class to the control class, it can be said that the media video practicum's impact on the ability of students’ critical thinking was much greater.

Abstract

The decline in student interest in learning affects learning outcomes, thus putting pressure on lecturers to produce high-quality teaching. To create quality learning, modules that meet the needs are required; thus, research was conducted to produce interactive modules in the development of valid and practical mathematics teaching materials. This study's objective was to produce a module that is interactive in the development of valid and practical mathematics teaching materials. The ADDIE model was used in this development research, but only up to the development stage. One media expert and one material expert acted as research subjects. The results showed that the developed mathematics teaching material development module can be applied to learning in the Musamus University primary school teacher education study program. This is evident from the validation of the material by the material expert, who obtained a score of 92 placings it in the "very feasible" category in terms of the feasibility of the content and presentation. The media validation of the resulting module is in the excellent category, according to the media validation score of the media expert, which is 95. Therefore, it is recommended to use the module as one of the learning resources for developing mathematics teaching materials.

Abstract

This study aims to look at differences in biology learning outcomes using role playing models and conventional methods (lectures, discussions, question and answer) of class X SMA Negeri Lubuk Linggau. This type of research is experimental research. The population in the study were all students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Lubuk Linggau. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling technique, then the determination of the experimental class and control class was carried out by random method. Obtained class X.1 as the experimental class, and class X.2 as the control class. The research instrument was used in the form of test questions for cognitive aspects of student learning outcomes, and observation sheets for affective and psychomotor aspects of learning outcomes. Hypothesis testing was carried out by t-test. The results showed that the average score for biology learning outcomes for students using Role Playing was 74.70 and 66.80 with conventional methods. There is a significant difference at the 0.05% alpha level. The results of observations of student learning in the experimental class affective aspects 90.8 and psychomotor and 91.3, while in the control class affective aspects 64.8 and psychomotor 66.6. It can be concluded that the application of the Role Playing method in biology learning is better than conventional learning.
