Abstract

Teachers are encouraged to create innovative learning media that make learning more engaging and meaningful, especially in subjects that are often considered abstract, such as Islamic Religious Education. This study aims to develop a learning medium in the form of a pop-up book for the Islamic Religious Education and Character subject to enhance the learning interest of fourth-grade students at SDN 17 Kota Bengkulu. The research employs a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4-D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The data were obtained from both qualitative and quantitative sources. Qualitative data consisted of feedback from media experts, content experts, subject teachers, and students. Quantitative data were derived from validation assessments and student response questionnaires. The results showed that (1) the pop-up book media was categorized as highly valid, with validation scores from content experts (100%), media experts (100%), and subject teachers (96%); (2) the practicality of the media, based on student responses, reached 94%, indicating a very practical category; and (3) students' interest in learning using the media averaged 87%, showing that the pop-up book media effectively increases learning motivation.

Abstract

This study explores students’ perceptions of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) in teaching writing at an Islamic and science-based senior high school in East Jakarta. The research was conducted to understand how students viewed PjBL as an alternative method that could make writing more engaging and meaningful. A qualitative approach was used with six tenth-grade students selected based on different English proficiency levels. The data were collected through classroom observation, interviews, and supporting documents such as lesson plans and students’ writing projects. The findings showed that students generally had positive perceptions toward the use of PjBL in writing. They stated that this method made them feel more motivated and confident in expressing their ideas. Working in groups helped them share opinions, discuss topics, and improve their vocabulary and grammar through peer feedback. The opportunity to choose their own topic also made writing feel more enjoyable and personal. However, some students faced challenges in group work, such as unequal contribution and time management. Despite these challenges, they agreed that the teacher’s guidance and feedback were helpful during the process. In conclusion, PjBL created a more active, collaborative, and supportive writing environment that encouraged students to be more involved and independent in learning. It contributes to the growing body of literature by offering student-centered insights into how PjBL enhances writing experiences in Indonesian EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study aims to identify, analyze, and describe the implementation of a learning model based on the traditional game Dhakon as a means of preserving local wisdom among fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 2 Sarimulyo Kemusu. It also explores the supporting and inhibiting factors encountered during the implementation process. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included the principal, the fifth-grade teacher, and selected students, chosen purposively. To ensure data validity, the study utilized triangulation of techniques and sources, increased observational persistence, and references to relevant literature. The findings reveal that the Dhakon-based learning model effectively instills values of local wisdom such as cooperation, sportsmanship, patience, and a love for national culture. The implementation was integrated into thematic learning, character-building activities, and local content lessons. Despite facing challenges such as limited instructional time and lack of supporting media, these issues were addressed through teacher innovation and school-wide collaboration. Thus, the Dhakon traditional game has proven to be an effective educational medium for integrating local cultural values into elementary school learning.
