Abstract

The low student learning outcomes are caused by the lack of motivation and participation of students in the learning process. This study aims to describe the cognitive learning outcomes of students and determine the improvement in cognitive learning outcomes of students between classes that apply the cooperative learning model of the course review horay type and classes that apply the conventional learning model. The research method used is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The results of the descriptive analysis of the experimental class obtained an average value of cognitive learning outcomes of 74.14 in the good category, while the control class obtained an average value of 63.57 in the fairly good category. The results of the hypothesis test obtained 0.000 smaller than 0.05 which means there is a significant difference in cognitive learning outcomes of students between classes that apply the cooperative learning model of the course review horay type and classes that apply the conventional learning model on the material of vibrations and waves in class VIII SMPN 20 Pekanbaru. Thus, it is concluded that the cooperative learning model of the course review horay type is able to improve students cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of elementary education in shaping students' character and academic abilities. Comparing elementary schools is crucial because choosing a school is a long-term investment for a child's future. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that contribute to the lack of curriculum adjustment to students' needs, limited teacher time and attention, and low student motivation at SD Muhammadiyah 10 Palembang and SDN 02 Lubuk Keliat. The research method uses a comparative qualitative approach with case studies. The research findings indicate that SD Muhammadiyah 10 excels in the integration of religious values and interactive learning methods, while SDN 02 Lubuk Keliat is more effective in the use of technology. Both schools face challenges such as reading difficulties and classroom management. Improving the quality of education requires a deeper integration of religious values, creative learning methods, effective use of technology, special attention to students with reading difficulties, and structured extracurricular programs. This research is important because it compares two different educational models in the context of elementary schools, which can provide valuable insights for improving the quality of education, addressing specific challenges, and maximizing the unique potential of each school. Collaboration and innovation are needed to create a learning environment that supports students' holistic development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of using the song "Best Friend" by Rex Orange County in improving students' speaking skills, particularly in asking and giving opinions. The method used is a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest type quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of 24 eleventh-grade students from SMA Istiqomah Bandung, selected through purposive sampling technique. The research instrument in the form of an oral test was administered before and after the treatment of learning with song media. The results of the data analysis show a significant increase in the average student scores, from 64.17 on the pretest to 85.04 on the posttest. The paired sample t-test produced a significance value of p < 0.001, indicating that the use of the song was effective in improving students' speaking abilities in the context of asking and giving opinions. Thus, popular songs can be used as an enjoyable and contextual alternative learning medium to enhance students' oral competence in English language learning at the secondary school level.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of the Flipped Classroom learning model in teaching descriptive text reading at Vocational High School in Karawang. In the current digital era, traditional teacher-centered learning often fails to engage students and limits their ability to develop reading comprehension skills. Flipped Classroom offers an alternative by shifting the initial learning process outside the classroom through digital materials, while face-to-face sessions are focused on discussion, problem-solving, and collaborative activities. This research employed a qualitative case study approach involving eight tenth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using observations, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings reveal that students became more active, confident, and better prepared to understand descriptive texts, while teachers benefited from more efficient class time management. Nevertheless, challenges such as limited internet access, insufficient home learning support, and time management issues were observed. The study concludes that while Flipped Classroom enhances students’ reading comprehension and classroom participation, its effectiveness depends on digital infrastructure, student discipline, and teacher facilitation. Therefore, providing training in time management, strengthening the teacher’s role as facilitator, and conducting periodic evaluations are recommended to optimize this method in vocational high schools.

Abstract

Rapid technological development has brought significant changes in children's lives, including in the process of moral and character formation. East Kalimantan, as one of the provinces with a high level of digitalization, faces a major challenge in building a child-friendly environment that supports the growth and development of ethical values in the younger generation. This research aims to reflect on the role of child-friendly environments in shaping children's character amidst the technological current, emphasizing the importance of convergence between traditional and digital values. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach and content analysis of the 2024 East Kalimantan Children's Profile, this study reveals that although children's access to basic services and technology is quite high, there are still gaps in moral upbringing and digital literacy. Collaboration among families, schools, communities, and the utilization of local wisdom are important factors in creating an educational environment capable of building children's character in a balanced way in the modern era. This study provides strategic recommendations to strengthen the synergy between Child-Friendly City/Regency policies and technology-based character education rooted in local culture.
