Abstract

Abstract The ability to understand concepts is very important and becomes the basis for supporting the solving of mathematical problems. The connection between one concept and another concept and one topic with another topic is a characteristic of learning mathematics. The relationship requires that each student must have the ability to understand the concepts well, but it cannot be denied that the ability to understand mathematical concepts is still low, as happened to theLangke Rembong 4Junior High School students. Learning innovation needs to be done to achieve a good understanding of concepts. This study aims to compare the understanding ability of mathematical concepts of students who follow a guided inquiry learning model with students who take direct learning. The research design uses Posttest only control group design. The population is all eighth grade students of Langke Rembong 4 Junior High School, totalling230 students. Sampling is done by random sampling with equality test between classes. It is then obtained class VIII A as the experimental class and class VIII C as the control class. Data collection uses tests in the form of description questions. Data analysis uses t-test with normality test and homogeneity test for the assumptions. The results show that the students who follow the guided inquiry learning have higher understanding of mathematical concepts than those who are taught with direct learning model. Keywords: inquiry, understanding of mathematical concepts

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of the Model-Eliciting Activities (MEAs) approach towards the students’ mathematical communication skills. This research is a quasi-experimental study by the nonequivalent posttest-only control group design. This research population was the eighth-grade students in SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Penuh that consisted of seven groups. The sample in this study consisted of two groups, namely VIII C as an experimental group and VIII D as a control group selected by cluster random sampling technique. In the experimental group, the MEAs approach was done while the control group was done with conventional learning. The research instrument used to measure students’ mathematical communication skills was a subjective test. The data were analyzed using the independent t-test. The results of data analysis showed that there is an effect of MEAs approach towards the students’ mathematical communication skills. Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of initial ability and self confidence together on mathematical communication ability, the effect of initial ability on mathematical communication ability, and the effect of self confidence on mathematical communication ability. This study uses a survey method, with multiple regression analysis techniques. Samples were taken using a random sampling technique. The data processing carried out results in a multiple regression equation Y = -2.365 + 0.110 X1 + 0.283 X2, the coefficient of determination (R Square) = 0.22, FCount (0.787) smaller than FTable (3.126), and tCount smaller than tTable . The conclusion of this study is the initial ability and self confidence together do not have a significant effect on mathematical communication ability, the initial ability does not have a significant effect on mathematical communication ability, and self confidence has no significant effect on mathematical communication ability. This study needs to be studied further because only 22% of the value of mathematical communication ability can be explained by using the initial ability value and self confidence, while 78% must be explained by other causative factors. Abstract

Abstract This research aims to develop a graph theory textbook that is valid, practical and effective in improving students' mathematical representation abilities in learning graph theory in discrete mathematics courses. The method used is research and development with the Plomp model development design which consists of five stages in the form of (1) initial investigation, (2) design, (3) realization/construction, (4) tests, evaluations and revisions, (5) implementation. The subjects in this study were students who took discrete mathematics subjects, academic year 2018/2019 Mathematics education program STKIP Soe as many as two classes. Research data collection techniques in the form of observation, tests and questionnaires. The product in the form of a graph theory textbook that was developed was tested for validity based on the results of the assessment of the expert team as a validator. The practicality of the product was tested using questionnaire analysis of student and lecturer responses. Test the effectiveness of textbooks in improving the ability of mathematical representation is done through quasi-experimental research with analysis techniques using independent sample t test and normalized gain score. The results showed that the graph theory textbooks developed were valid, practical and effective in improving students' mathematical representation abilities. Abstract

This research was conducted at SMP N 8 Lubuklinggau in the academic year 2019/2020. The purpose of this research is to produce student worksheets (LKS) that are valid and practical using the Indonesian realistic mathematics approach (PMRI). This research refers to development research using a 4-D research model that has been modified to become 3-D. The validity of the LKS that was developed was seen from the results of the validation questionnaire of three experts while the practicality was seen from the results of the practicality questionnaire given to the one to one hold, small group test and large group test. Based on the results of questionnaire validation obtained an average score of 3.13 are in the valid category. Whereas based on practicality testing the LKS that was developed was in the practical category with an average score of 3.25.

Abstract

Innovative learning models have an influence on student achievement. This study aims to determine whether the PBL learning model is more effective than the STAD learning model (learning model that has been applied in schools) on mathematics learning achievement, whether there is a difference in the effect of the AQ of climber, camper, and quitter category students on mathematics learning achievement, and whether there is the interaction between the learning model and students' AQ on mathematics learning achievement. This research is in the form of quantitative research. The sample was taken using a simple random sampling technique where the experimental class was taught using the PBL learning model and the control class was taught using the STAD learning model. The data collection technique used the Questionnaire method for AQ data and the test method for students' mathematics learning achievement data. The data technique used a two-way unequal cell analysis of variance test with a 2×3 matrix and a further test using the Scheffe test. The results of hypothesis testing with a significance level (α) = 5% indicate that there is a difference in the effect of the learning model on mathematics learning achievement (Fobs=19.97 and Fα=4.13), there are differences in the effect of each AQ category on mathematics learning achievement (Fobs=94.59 and Fα=3.28), and there is no interaction between the learning model and students' AQ on mathematics learning achievement (Fobs=2.39 and Fα=3.28).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the interest in learning mathematics for fifth grade elementary school students on prime number material assisted by ICT learning media, namely Visual Basic Application (VBA) Excel. The research method uses qualitative descriptive research. The subjects of this study were 5th grade students of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) II Celak which consisted of 26 students. The instrument was given in the form of a questionnaire for students' interest in learning consisting of 20 statements, with 10 positive statements each and 10 negative statements from five indicators, 1). Feelings of pleasure, 2). Student interests, 3). Student involvement, 4). Diligent in studying and diligent in doing math tasks, 5). Diligent and disciplined in learning and having a study schedule. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that learning mathematics using VBA media can increase student learning interest. This is shown by the percentage of each indicator of student interest in learning. The highest indicator is the feeling of pleasure and interest of students in learning mathematics, each getting 87.02% and 89.18% which shows that students' interest in learning mathematics is very high.

Abstract

Understanding the concept of students is still low and student self-efficacy is still not the background of this study. The research objective was to determine the understanding of students 'mathematical concepts and determine the effect of self-efficacy on students' conceptual understanding after applying the Discovery Learning model. This type of research is a pre-experiment with a pre-test and post-test group design test. Data analysis using simple linear regression analysis, correlation analysis and t test. Based on the results of data analysis, understanding the mathematical concepts of students has increased with the criteria of being. Questionnaire analysis using the N-Gain formula and obtained student self-efficacy also experienced an increase in the criteria of being. Furthermore, the significance test of the correlation coefficient is obtained tcount < ttable, it can be concluded that self-efficacy by applying the Discovery Learning model influences the understanding of mathematical concepts in students of class XI MIA 1 Solok Selatan N 5 but not significant.
