Abstract

In domestic economic development, the Government of Indonesia opens opportunities for investors, both domestic and foreign, to participate in strategic projects, through investment. Regarding Investment from Foreign Investors, Indonesia acts as a Host State or Capital Recipient State to regulate the "rules of the game" for capital management through Law Number 25 of 2007 concerning Investment. In the midst of uncertain economic, political and legal conditions, of course it makes foreign investors "think twice" to invest in Indonesia, considering the situation of Economic, Political and Legal conditions greatly affecting the investment climate in Indonesia. Furthermore, it is important to provide legal certainty and provide a sense of comfort to Foreign Investors, the Government of Indonesia issued Law Number 25 of 2007 concerning Investment, which regulates the management of Investment in Indonesia, the basic policies of Investment, the Form of Business Entity, the Business Sector, Investment Development, Investment Facilities, Licensing, as well as the Rights, Obligations and Responsibilities of Investors as well as Dispute Resolution.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of legal protection for husbands who become victims of Domestic Violence (DV) committed by their wives, with a case study in Medan City. The research focuses on the application of Law Number 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence, the motives of wives as perpetrators, and the legal protection provided to husbands as victims. Using a normative approach, this study relies on secondary data from legislation, legal doctrines, and relevant case analyses. The findings show that Law Number 23 of 2004 explicitly provides legal protection for all DV victims, regardless of gender, including husbands. The law guarantees victims’ rights to physical protection, legal assistance, healthcare, and social rehabilitation. The motives of wives committing DV against their husbands may include dominance, frustration, revenge, or economic stress. In some cases, such acts arise from attempts to control the partner or express unresolved emotional distress. The analysis of household dynamics reveals that power imbalance, unresolved conflicts, and past trauma are common triggers of violent behavior. Legal frameworks ensure husbands’ rights to report violence and access protection and rehabilitation services. Law enforcement agencies and relevant institutions such as the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) and the Integrated Service Center for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) play an essential role in guaranteeing that male victims receive appropriate and equitable protection under the law.

Abstract

The development of beauty products in Indonesia shows impressive growth. One example is the growth of local brand beauty products. The growth of beauty products demonstrates the potential for consumption, as consumers consider beauty products a necessity that continues to attract purchase interest. This study aims to analyze the consumption value of local brand product purchase interest. This study used a quantitative approach. The population consists of Malang residents familiar with local beauty products. The sample size was 128 respondents, drawn through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires. Validity and reliability tests used in this study showed that the questionnaire items used were valid and reliable. Subsequent tests were conducted, including the Classical Assumption test, multiple linear regression tests, and partial and simultaneous hypothesis testing. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was found that functional value and conditional value did not have a significant effect. In contrast, emotional value, social value, and epistemic value had a significant effect. The findings open up opportunities for further research to explore the same product category in more depth or expand the scope to other product categories, thereby providing a more varied picture.

Abstract

Mosquito larvae are an important indicator in disease vector surveillance activities, such as dengue fever (DHF). However, the relatively small size of larvae and their random movement in water media make manual observation difficult, time-consuming, and potentially lead to errors in identification. These conditions encourage the need to develop technology-based detection methods that can provide faster, more accurate, and consistent results. The purpose of this study is to build a Haar Cascade model to detect the presence of mosquito larvae in digital images. The research stage begins with collecting a dataset in the form of positive images containing mosquito larvae objects and negative images containing water backgrounds without larvae. Next, the training process is carried out using the Haar Cascade algorithm that utilizes Haar feature extraction through integral images and a classification process with AdaBoost. The resulting model has successfully detected mosquitoes and met the minHitRate target (HR ≥ 0.995), however, the false alarm rate is still quite high, averaging 0.41, so further optimization is still needed to reduce the False Alarm Rate. This study shows that the Haar Cascade method can be used to detect mosquito larvae with a fairly good success rate, but false detections still occur so the model still needs to be improved.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the Regional Minimum Wage (RMW) and the Human Development Index (HDI) on the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) in Mandailing Natal Regency. The research is motivated by employment issues, where increases in RMW and improvements in HDI do not necessarily correspond with a higher labor force participation rate. A quantitative research approach was employed using secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) for the 2018–2022 period. The analytical method used is multiple linear regression, supported by a series of classical assumption tests, including normality, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity, and autocorrelation tests, to ensure model validity and reliability. The results indicate that: (1) the Regional Minimum Wage (RMW) has a significant negative effect on the Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR); (2) the Human Development Index (HDI) has no significant effect on LFPR; and (3) RMW and HDI simultaneously have a significant influence on LFPR, with a combined contribution of 81.8%. These findings suggest that the RMW is a more dominant factor in determining labor force participation compared to HDI. The study concludes that wage adjustments should be balanced with the labor market’s absorption capacity. Furthermore, improvements in human resource quality must be accompanied by efforts to expand employment opportunities to ensure sustainable labor participation and inclusive economic growth.

Abstract

One of the criminal acts that frequently occurs in society is giving false testimony under oath, which is punishable by imprisonment; however, in practice, judges may impose a suspended sentence. This study aims to analyze the judge’s considerations in imposing a suspended sentence on perpetrators of giving false testimony under oath and its conformity with the objectives of punishment. The research employed normative legal research with statutory and conceptual approaches. The data used were secondary data obtained through library research and analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The findings show that in Decision Number 1353/Pid.B/2017/PN.Tjk and 23/Pid/2018/PT.Tjk, the juridical consideration of the judges was based on the fact that the defendant was proven to have violated Article 242 paragraph (1) of the Indonesian Criminal Code. The philosophical consideration was directed at efforts to rehabilitate the defendant so that he would not repeat the offense, while the sociological consideration involved taking into account both mitigating and aggravating factors. The imposition of the suspended sentence was deemed consistent with the objectives of punishment, particularly given the defendant’s advanced age (68 years) and in line with the relative theory, which emphasizes punishment as a means of learning rather than mere retribution.

Abstract

Tenun Ikat is a traditional art form created by Lamaholot women as a medium to express the cultural identity and philosophy of life of the local community. This study aims to describe the motifs, meanings, and process of making Kwatek weaving in the Dona Tobo Ikat Weaving Group in Lewolema, as well as to understand the cultural meaning contained within it as an effort to strengthen local identity. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that this group consists of 12 housewives who produce three main types of weaving: Kewatek for women, Nowing for men, and Selendang as a small woven cloth. The woven motifs are passed down from generation to generation and are believed to be sacred motifs revealed by the ruler of nature. Each motif depicts the values of ancestral heroism and symbolizes the traditional three-burner wedding ceremony typical of the Lewolema area. The weaving process includes three main stages: preparation, dyeing, and weaving, which must be carried out carefully to produce beautiful and meaningful motifs. This study concludes that ikat weaving not only functions as a traditional craft, but also as a means of cultural preservation and identity transmission between generations.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigated the effectiveness of Task-Based Learning (TBL) in improving English speaking proficiency among secretarial students with limited English skills. The research was conducted with 30 fourth-semester students enrolled in the Secretary Study Program at Pamulang University, who were identified as having low levels of English speaking ability. Through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and students’ reflective journals, the study explored how real-life task simulations such as telephone conversations, appointment scheduling, meeting arrangements, and business presentations impacted learners’ confidence, fluency, and functional language use. The findings indicate that TBL created meaningful and interactive speaking opportunities that helped students overcome their fear of speaking, promoted collaborative learning, and improved their ability to use English in job-specific contexts. Furthermore, the study revealed that when tasks were authentic and relevant to professional secretarial duties, students were more motivated to participate and take risks in speaking. The results suggest that incorporating TBL into English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction can significantly enhance the communicative competence of secretarial students preparing for workplace communication.

Abstract

This study investigates the challenges faced by creative economy actors in Senggigi Tourism Village, West Lombok Regency, in maintaining their business sustainability. The background of this research stems from the decline in tourist visits following the 2018 earthquake, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the rise of competing destinations such as the Mandalika Special Economic Zone. These conditions have significantly impacted the continuity of local creative businesses. A descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach was employed. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving actors in the creative economy. The data were then analyzed using thematic analysis and the fishbone diagram to identify the root causes of the problems. The findings show that internal challenges include limited product innovation, uncompetitive pricing, restricted distribution channels, insufficient digital promotion, inconsistent service processes, weak branding, and inadequate managerial and foreign language skills. External challenges include natural disasters, pandemics, competition from modern destinations, shifting tourist preferences, inadequate government support, limited access to financing, and underutilization of technology and networks. This study finds that Senggigi’s creative economy can thrive by embracing its unique culture, innovating products, ensuring fair prices and quality, and connecting more with stakeholders. Strong business management, skilled people, and digital marketing will help meet global challenges. The study’s results show how the 7P marketing mix applies to tourism, and provide clear steps Senggigi Tourism Village can take to stand out in the world.
