Abstract

Laying hens are one of the poultry that is widely cultivated by Indonesian people and is quite developed in South Sulawesi, especially in Bulukumba Regency. Laying hen farming business is a business that can generate fast capital turnover, besides that laying hen farming business is still very vulnerable and prices are still fluctuating. The purpose of this study was to determine the production analysis of laying hens in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi. There are two data collected, namely primary data and secondary data. Primary data come from interviews and observations, while secondary data comes from maintenance management SOP/manual book, then analyzed using descriptive method. The conclusion from the results of the analysis of the layer phase production of laying hens in Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi can be seen in the maintenance of layer phase laying hens using a battery cage type and the cage model used is an open house cage and where the increase and decrease in egg production is caused by the provision of inefficient feed, namely when mixing feed should be done 3 minutes after the last ingredient entered the mixer, but sometimes the workers only use 30 seconds-1.5 minutes which causes an inhomogeneous ration. Health management is carried out by injecting the Medivac ND-IB vaccine to prevent ND and IB diseases once every 1.5 months, the administration is carried out by injection. The type of vaccine used is the active ND-IB vaccine, which is activated via 500 ml of adesta solution which must be used up within 2 hours for 1000 chickens with a dose of 0.5 ml/head per head, while for DOC it is 0.2 ml/head.

Abstract

One alternative feed ingredient that can be used to increase crude protein content and reduce crude fiber content in rations is taro leaves. The purpose of this research is to increase the crude protein content and reduce the crude fiber content in the feed so that it can be used as a nutritional ingredient for animal feed, especially for ducks. The method used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments applied were, P0: No treatment, P1: Mixed feed + 1% taro leaf meal, P2: Mixed feed + 2% taro leaf meal, and P3: Mixed feed + 3% taro leaf meal. Based on the results of the study showing that treatment 3 was the best treatment because of the high protein content of 13.79% and the lowest crude fiber content of 11.34%, it can be concluded that the greater the capacity of adding taro leaf flour will increase the crude protein content and reduce Crude fiber content in duck rations.

Abstract

Semen storage at a temperature of 50C affects the quality of spermatozoa. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in motility and plasma membrane integrity of Kampung chicken spermatozoa variables that were stored directly at 5 °C with storage with a gradual decrease in temperature after the semen collection process. This study used a completely randomized design with 3 treatment levels and 9 replications. The treatment used was storage at a fixed temperature of 5 ⁰C for 75 minutes (P1), storage at a gradually lowered temperature from 41 ⁰C 30 minutes - 21 ⁰C 30 minutes - 5 ⁰C 15 minutes (P2), and storage at a gradually lowered temperature from temperature 41⁰C 15 minutes - 31 ⁰C 15 minutes - 21 ⁰C 15 minutes - 11 ⁰C 15 minutes - 5 ⁰C 15 minutes (P3). Research data that were normally distributed were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that different temperature reduction treatments did not affect (P>0.05) the motility and plasma membrane integrity of spermatozoa variables during storage. The mean total motility, progressive motility and plasma membrane integrity were 25.36-41.22%, 67.30-77.08% and 92.35-96.29%, respectively. The conclusion of this study was that collected Kampung chicken spermatozoa could be directly stored at 5°C without any gradual reduction in temperature because no differences in plasma membrane integrity motility variables were found in the treatment.

Abstract

The development of horse farms in Gantarang Village has not been in line with the high utilization of horse livestock, so it is necessary to evaluate the management of horse farm maintenance in the area. The research was conducted in September 2022 in Gantarang Village, Kelara District, Jeneponto Regency. The object of this study were horse breeders in Gantarang Village, with 30 respondents. Respondents were selected purposively (purposive sampling) and then interviewed. The results showed that the majority of horse breeders in Gantarang Village raised 1-3 horses (60%). As many as 67% of respondents are private owners of the horses they keep. Horse rearing in Gantarang Village uses an intensive (50%) and semi-intensive (50%) system. The frequency of feeding 3 times was carried out by 67% of breeders and was carried out in the morning, afternoon and evening. All breeders (100%) who raise traditional horses in Gantarang Village only use forages, namely grass and straw. Horse farming in Gantarang Village is still traditional with a low number of horse owners. The provision of forage is carried out using the cut and carry method, namely taking feed from another location as far as 1-2 km from the location of the stable and bringing it to the stable or where the horses are grazed. Research on horse farming, especially in Jeneponto Regency, must be continued as one of the efforts to improve the community's economy, preserve culture, germplasm and the environment, develop livestock quality and health, and sustain horse production in the future.

Abstract

The feasibility of a pea goat business based on a scale of maintenance is important. This is because goats have a fairly wide market share, ranging from the needs of meat consumption to the needs of aqiqah and sacrificial animals. This research aims to evaluate the viability of Peanut goat farming through the feasibility indicators of Break Event Point (BEP), Net Present Value (NPV), and Benefit Cost Ratio (B/C ratio) based on the ownership scale. The study was conducted in Sanrobone Takalar from April to July 2023. A survey method was employed, involving 60 households of goat farmers as the sampling units. These households were categorized into four ownership scales: 2-5 goats, 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats. The measured and analyzed variables included cash flow, BEP, NPV, and B/C ratio. The research findings indicate that the ownership scales of 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats have BEP values >1 and B/C ratios >1. On the other hand, the smaller scale of 2-5 goats shows BEP <1 and B/C ratio <1. In terms of the NPV indicator, positive values (>1) were obtained for all ownership scales, indicating the potential profitability of Peanut goat farming. In conclusion, this study suggests that all ownership scales are considered feasible, yet based on the BEP and B/C ratio indicators, the ownership scales deemed feasible are 6-9 goats, 10-13 goats, and ≥14 goats.
