Background: Islamic education in Indonesia experienced significant dynamics under pressure and interaction with state power during the Old and New Order periods. Purpose: This research aims to examine the forms of resistance and adaptation of Islamic education in the socio-political context of the Old and New Order eras. Method: This research uses a qualitative approach with a historical-critical study design. Data sources come from education policy documents, historical archives, and relevant secondary literature. The population in this research is all Islamic education policies during the Old Order and New Order, with samples in the form of documents and representative policies selected purposively. The research instrument is a document review guide and the analysis technique uses a content analysis approach to the socio-political dynamics of Islamic education. Results and Discussion: This study found that Islamic education during the Old Order showed resistance to the penetration of state ideology, while during the New Order there was a process of structural adaptation for the sustainability of Islamic education institutions. This finding shows a shift in the strategy of Islamic education actors in responding to power pressures. The results of this study fill the historical gap related to the relationship between the state and Islamic education, which has not been studied from a critical socio-political perspective. Conclusions and Implications: Islamic education shows flexibility between resistance and adaptation in the face of state control. This result implies the importance of understanding Islamic education not only as a religious institution, but also as a political and social arena that actively shapes national identity.

Background: Arabic language learning in madrasah often encounters challenges due to the complexity of the language and the suboptimal teaching methods applied. Purpose: This study aims to explore the perspectives, motivations, and challenges experienced by ninth-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Boalemo in learning Arabic, as well as to examine the effectiveness of instructional strategies used by teachers. Method: Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Results and Discussion: Findings reveal that although students are highly motivated—primarily for religious reasons—the predominance of conventional methods hinders their communicative competence. Additionally, learning media used in class do not sufficiently support the diverse learning styles of students.. Conclusions and Implications: This study emphasizes the importance of communicative and contextual approaches to bridge students’ motivation with optimal learning outcomes.

Background: Mastering speaking skills demands more than just theoretical knowledge; it also requires real-world application to foster meaningful and practical learning. In the Arabic Language Education Program at the Faculty of Language and Arts, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), the curriculum is structured to develop both theoretical understanding and practical proficiency in language use. However, the researcher observed that students often struggle with Arabic speaking performance, particularly in areas such as pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary usage, and maintaining coherent content. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating the Talkpal AI-based Project-Based Learning (PjBL) approach in enhancing Arabic speaking skills. Method: This research adopts a pre-experimental design involving a single group with pre-test and post-test stages. Data collection methods included oral examinations, observations, and interviews. Participants were selected through purposive sampling, comprising 25 second-semester students from class F of the Arabic Language Education Program. The quantitative data gathered were processed and analyzed using SPSS version 24. Results and Discussion: Findings from the paired sample t-test indicate a significant improvement, with a sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.00, which is below the 0.05 threshold thus, the null hypothesis is rejected in favor of the alternative. This outcome aligns with the N-Gain analysis, which revealed an average score of 82.0326. According to the criteria (g > 0.7), this result falls into the high and effective category, also consistent with Malzer’s classification. Conclusion and Implications: Based on the statistical analyses conducted, it is evident that the implementation of the Talkpal AI-based PjBL model significantly enhances students’ Arabic speaking abilities. The results suggest that embedding AI-powered tools within project-based instructional strategies can serve as an effective and adaptable means of fostering language skill development in the context of digital-age education.

Background: The phenomenon of mugāyarah in the nominal sentence (jumlah ismiyyah) structures of the Qur’an reflects a fascinating linguistic dynamic that warrants exploration from the perspective of Arabic grammar (nahwu). Purpose: This study aims to analyze the forms and functions of mugāyarah between the mubtada’ (subject) and khabar (predicate) in the Qur’an, using both syntactic and semantic approaches. Method: A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, using a textual study design. Data were sourced from Qur’anic verses containing nominal sentences, selected through purposive sampling of 20 verses that demonstrate the mugāyarah phenomenon. The primary instrument was classical Arabic linguistic analysis, supported by AntConc software to visualize word distribution. Data analysis was conducted through syntactic and semantic approaches grounded in classical Arabic linguistic theory and tafsir. Results and Discussion: The findings reveal that mugāyarah in the relationship between mubtada’ and khabar functions as a rhetorical and semantic strategy that enhances the message of the verses, rather than constituting a grammatical anomaly. These grammatical variations highlight the richness of Qur’anic linguistic structures and address a gap in linguistic studies concerning semantically valid deviations. Conclusions and Implications: This study concludes that mugāyarah enriches the meaning and adds deeper linguistic dimensions to the Qur’an. The findings have implications for the development of Arabic linguistic studies and linguistic exegesis in understanding sacred texts.

Background: The linguistic politeness of Generation Z in educational settings has emerged as a significant phenomenon worthy of scholarly examination, particularly in light of the pervasive influence of digital media and shifting communication norms. Purpose: This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach to examine linguistic politeness challenges among students at SMA Negeri 3 Gowa as representatives of Generation Z. Method: Data were collected through methodological triangulation comprising participant observation, questionnaires administered to 32 students, and analysis of classroom interaction documents, utilizing purposive sampling that accounted for gender diversity and varied social backgrounds. Systematic data analysis was conducted through thematic reduction, matrix presentation, and cross-verification to ensure research validity. Result and Discussion: The findings reveal a prevalent pattern of code-switching between formal and informal registers, with colloquial language dominating peer interactions while more polite forms are maintained in teacher-student communication. The study identifies social media influence and peer group dynamics as determining factors in these politeness paradigm shifts. Conclusion and Implication: This research contributes significantly to the mapping of Generation Z's communication patterns within formal educational contexts, an area that remains understudied. The implications underscore the necessity for implementing context-aware communication education in schools that harmonizes traditional politeness norms with Generation Z's distinctive communication characteristics while preserving their digital identity. These findings provide a foundation for developing responsive language learning models attuned to contemporary communication dynamics.

Background: Arabic news texts have many complex sentences, and the identity of the agent or subject of the sentence is frequently withheld. In addition, the study of case grammar on Arabic news is still relatively minimal and rarely discussed by many people. Purpose: This study aims to identify and describe deeply the propositional case and the classification of verbs as propositional elements in the news text in the rubric “Akhbār Indūnīsyā”. Method: This research uses analytic descriptive method with a case grammar approach. The data source in this research is the rubric “Akhbār Indūnīsyā” on al-jazeera.net website. The techniques used in this research are reading, note taking, purposive sampling, and PUP (pilah unsur penentu) techniques. Results and Discussion: The results show that there are 10 data about propositions contained in the rubric “Akhbār Indūnīsyā” with various propositional cases and verbs classification. Conclusions and Implications: Based on this research results, it was found: (1) 10 propositional cases, namely agentive cases, experiencer cases, instrumental cases, benefactive cases, objective cases, locative cases, source cases, goal cases, time cases, and comitative cases; and (2) 3 verbs classifications, namely state verbs, process verbs, and action verbs. The findings of this research strengthen the relevance of case grammar theory in analyzing the logical structure (semantic structure) of complex sentences. The application of propositional case roles such as agentive, experiencer, benefactive, objective, and location in nouns and case frames in verbs proved effective in revealing meaning relationships in Arabic news texts. This indicates that case grammar theory has cross-linguistic flexibility and can be applied to Semitic languages including Arabic. Understanding the semantic roles in sentences can help Arabic learners interpret texts more critically, especially in journalistic literature that are rich in information construction. In addition, language practitioners such as translators, journalists, and teachers can utilize this approach to deepen their understanding of implicit meanings in news texts. In addition, this research offers room for more extensive further research, such as the application of case grammar theory to non-news texts such as literary texts, religious texts, or academic texts in Arabic.

Background: Grammar teaching in Arabic language learning often fails to encourage student independence and motivation, especially in the context of remedial programs. Purpose: This study aims to examine the application of Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) strategies in grammar teaching in an intensive Arabic remedial program at UIN K.H. Abdurrahman Wahid Pekalongan. Method: This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a non-experimental field design, involving 23 students selected purposefully due to their low grammar proficiency. Data were collected through observation, SRL questionnaires, pre- and post-tests, and in-depth interviews. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively and quantitatively to evaluate the effectiveness of the SRL strategy and its impact on grammar mastery. Results and Discussion: The results of the study showed a significant improvement in students' grammar comprehension after the implementation of the SRL strategy. Students demonstrated increased independence, motivation, and engagement in grammar learning. SRL components such as planning, self-monitoring, and reflection were proven effective in addressing grammar learning challenges in an intensive short-term environment. Conclusions and Implications: These findings indicate that integrating SRL into Arabic grammar instruction can improve learning outcomes and foster student independence. This study contributes to the development of SRL theory in language learning and offers practical implications for designing more effective remedial programs in Arabic language education. The integration of Self-Regulated Learning in Arabic grammar instruction in remedial programs not only improves mastery of the material but also fosters the independent learning character essential for long-term academic development. Therefore, this approach is recommended for widespread adoption in Arabic language learning programs in higher education, with the support of policies, faculty training, and adequate learning resources.
