Abstract

Students have difficulty in learning to play one of the characters in a drama. This can be seen from the low scores of students in the ability to play one of the characters in a drama, the lack of student interest in learning drama, students still seem not confident in playing the character in the drama in class, and the learning model used is not appropriate. The purpose of this study was to find out (1) To find out how the ability to play one of the characters in a drama is for class XI students of SMK Negeri 11 Medan without using the Storytelling learning model; (2) To find out how the ability to play one of the characters in a drama is for class XI students of SMK Negeri 11 Medan using the Storytelling model; (3) To find out how the Storytelling model influences the ability to play one of the characters in a drama for class XI students of SMK Negeri 11 Medan. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a post-test two group design model. The results of the study showed that 1) The ability of class XI students of SMK Negeri 11 Medan in playing one of the characters in a drama without using the Storytelling model is included in the good category with an average value of 71.50. 2) The ability of students of class XI SMK Negeri 11 Medan in showing one of the characters in a drama using the Storytelling model is included in the very good category with an average value of 84,48. Based on the t-test, with a significance level value of α = 0.05 and n = 30, a t-table value of 2.04 was obtained. Therefore, it can be concluded that t-count> t-table, which is 5.275> 2.04. This proves that there is a significant influence of the use of the Storytelling model on the ability to show one of the characters in the drama.

Abstract

A study has been conducted on the Profile of the Competence of Early Semester Students at UPBJJ Universitas Terbuka (UT) Kendari in the Indonesian Language and Literature Course for Elementary Schools. This research aims to assess the initial Indonesian language competence of all students at UPBJJ UT Kendari—a crucial skill that must be mastered by future educators—and to identify differences in student competence across various study groups (pokjar). The sample was selected using purposive sampling, where students were chosen from pokjars representing both urban and rural areas. Six pokjars were included as samples: Sikeli and Lainea representing rural areas, Kendari representing the provincial capital, and Unaaha and Wanggudu representing district capitals. The results showed that the average scores of students in the Indonesian Language and Literature course across all sample pokjars fell into the “very good” category. The lowest average score was from the Sikeli pokjar at 85.95, while the highest was from the Unaaha pokjar at 91.92. These findings indicate that the quality of instruction at UPBJJ UT Kendari, particularly in the Indonesian Language and Literature course, is relatively even across regions. An ANOVA test revealed that, at a confidence level of α = 0.05, the F-value obtained was Fcalculated = 28.74 > Ftable = 2.42, indicating that at least one pokjar had a significantly different average score compared to the others. A follow-up BNT (Least Significant Difference) test showed that students from the Sikeli, Kendari, and Wanggudu pokjars had significantly lower average scores compared to students from the Lainea and Unaaha pokjars. This suggests that students from rural areas do not necessarily perform worse than those from urban areas.

Abstract

This study investigates the forms, functions, and meanings of affixation (kecap rundayan) in the Sundanese-language novel Dirawu Kélong by Ahmad Bakri. Using a descriptive qualitative method and content analysis approach based on Sudaryat’s (2013) morphological theory, 420 affixation instances were identified and classified into five types: prefixation, infixation, suffixation, confixation, and ambifixation. The results show suffixation as the most dominant form (54.76%), followed by prefixation (24.05%), ambifixation (12.86%), infixation (5.48%), and confixation (2.86%). In terms of function, affixed words were mostly nouns (44.52%), verbs (41.90%), and adjectives (7.86%). Each affix form contributes specific grammatical meanings, such as indicating possession, passive/active voice, or plurality. The research highlights the richness of Sundanese morphology within literary texts and emphasizes its importance for preserving regional language through literature. It also serves as a linguistic reference for both academic and educational contexts, supporting Sundanese language maintenance and revitalization among younger generations. Keywords: Keywords: affixation; Sundanese morphology; linguistic analysis; novel; regional language preservation

Abstract

This research explores the stylistic features in the novel Cahaya Gumawang dina Ati by Ningrum Djulaéha, focusing on how language is used aesthetically to convey meaning, emotion, and cultural values. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a content analysis approach, guided by Nurgiyantoro’s stylistic theory, which includes figurative language and rhetorical elements. Data were collected from the second edition of the novel (2022) and analyzed systematically. The results reveal a total of 373 stylistic expressions, consisting of simile, metaphor, personification, metonymy, synecdoche, repetition, parallelism, anaphora, asyndeton, hyperbole, litotes, paradox, irony, rhetorical questions, climax, and antithesis. These elements reflect the author’s skill in creating literary beauty while expressing deep emotional experiences and cultural identity. The findings indicate that stylistic analysis is not only relevant to literary interpretation but also useful for enriching literary studies, particularly in regional literature. Future research may expand this study with interdisciplinary or comparative approaches.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing modern poetry through the implementation of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model in class VIII-A of UPTD SMP Negeri 1 Sirombu during the 2024/2025 academic year. The study was conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 32 students, comprising 10 boys and 22 girls. Data were collected through observation, written tests, field notes, and documentation, then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ writing performance. In the first cycle, the average score was 54%, with many students still categorized as “poor.” After revisions in the second cycle, the average score increased to 89%, with the majority of students reaching the “very good” category. Students also showed greater activeness and creativity in expressing ideas through poetry. The results indicate that PjBL not only enhances students’ writing skills in terms of theme, diction, and depth of meaning but also improves motivation, participation, and collaborative learning. Therefore, PjBL can be considered an effective instructional model for teaching Indonesian language and literature, particularly in developing students’ creative writing skills.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the forms of expressive speech acts in the lyrics of the album 'Sialnya, Hidup Harus Tetap Berjalan' by Bernadya and to implement the results of the analysis in writing poetry lessons in high school Indonesian language classes. This research uses a qualitative approach with a documentation study method. The overall research results found 90 data points, including 45 data points of complaint speech, 12 data points of criticism speech, 10 data points of blame speech, and 23 data points of praise speech. The research results can be implemented in the form of a teaching module for the material 'Berkarya dan Berkreasi melalui Puisi’ based on song lyrics. Utilizing song lyrics as a medium can be an interesting alternative and can solve the problems faced by students and teachers in poetry writing lessons. This finding contributes to the development of pragmatic studies and innovations in literature learning in schools.
