JOURNAL BASTRA (Language and Literature) is a publicly accessible journal published by the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Halu Oleo University. This journal is published four times a year, every January, April, July, and October. This journal contains the results of research (field or literature studies), theoretical studies, and critical studies covering several areas of study as follows. Indonesian language education includes studies on linguistic learning, phonology learning, morphology learning, syntax learning, semantic learning, pragmatics learning, discourse learning, sociolinguistic learning, and psycholinguistic learning. Indonesian literature education includes studies on poetry learning, fiction prose learning, and drama and film learning. Indonesian, includes studies on linguistics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, discourse, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics. Indonesian literature includes studies on poetry, prose fiction, drama, and film with a structural approach, stylistics, semiotics, sociology of literature, psychology of literature, psychoanalysis, literary ecology, deconstruction, philology, phenomenology, feminism, literary reception, and literary anthropology.

This study aims to describe the types of comparative language styles in the short story collection Sagra by Oka Rusmini. The type of research used in this study is library research. The method used in this study is descriptive analysis. The data in this study is the short story collection Sagra by Oka Rusmini published by PT Gramedia Widiasarana Indonesia in Jakarta, consisting of 204 pages and 13 short story titles. The three selected short stories are (1) Esensi Nobelia, (2) Sepotong Kaki, (3) Sagra. The data collection technique uses the reading and note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used is the objective approach. The results of this study indicate that (1) the short story Esensi Nobelia contains 4 types of comparative language styles, namely simile, metaphor, personification, and anticipation (2) the short story Sepotong Kaki contains 3 types of measurement language styles, namely simile, metaphor, and personification (3) the short story Sagra contains 4 types of comparative language styles, namely simile, metaphor, personification, and pleonasm.

The primary focus of this research is to analyze the ability of grade VII MTs Negeri 4 Buton in writing procedural texts. The objective of this study is to describe the writing skills of procedural texts among VII grade students of MTs Negeri 4 Buton. This research is categorized as field research using a quantitative descriptive method. The population of this study consists of all VII grade students at MTs Negeri 4 Buton, totaling 52 students, who were also used as the sample. The instrument used to collect data was a written test that measured students' ability to write procedural texts. Based on the research results and data analysis, it was found that out of 52 VII grade students at MTs Negeri 4 Buton, 36 students (69.23%) were categorized as able to write procedural texts individually, while 16 students (30.76%) were categorized as unable. Classically, the writing ability of procedural texts among VII grade students at MTs Negeri 4 Buton is categorized as unable. This is because the ability of individual students who meet the criteria for achieving learning objectives (KKTP) of 70% is only 62.23%. This does not meet the classical mastery criteria of 85%. This can be seen in the students' scores in the research. The ability to write procedural texts, which includes aspects such as the title of the procedural text (82.69%), the relevance of the content of the procedural text (94.23%), the structure of the procedural text (71.15%), the linguistic features of the procedural text (26.92%), and the mechanics of spelling the procedural text (19.23%), shows that out of the six aspects assessed, one aspect is categorized as capable, namely the relevance of the content, while the other four aspects are categorized as less capable.

The aim of the research is to describe the influence of the Brain writing learning model on the ability to write explanatory text in Class Using an experimental method with a one group pre-test post-test design. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews and tests. Data analysis techniques use analysis requirements tests, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and hypothesis tests. The research results found that the average pretest score was 65, which was in the poor category, while the average posttest class score was 86, which was in the very good category. So it can be concluded that the use of the Brain writing learning model has a significant effect on the ability to write explanatory text for class XI IPA-3 SMA Swasta Masehi GBKP. This increase can be proven from the hypothesis test tcount > ttable, namely 7.22 > 1.71 which proves that there is a significant influence from the use of the Brain writing learning model on the ability to write explanatory text for class XI students of GBKP Berastagi Private High School T.A 2021/2022.

This research related to diction in poetry collections shows that the author's creativity is very sharp and detailed in using linguistic devices that can beautify the work itself. It is proven by the efforts to empower poetry or rhyme that it is very productive and complex, almost all the poems contained in this poetry collection contain very interesting rhymes so that the aesthetic effect is very well maintained and is able to show the individual characteristics of the author. The beautiful effect in this collection of poetry is apart from the use of various rhyme patterns as well as the way the author displays the number of lines in each stanza. Each stanza in a poem does not always consist of four lines (like most poems) but these vary widely. Apart from the way the rhyme is arranged, the uniqueness of the lines in the poetry verses by the author can be seen from the naming of the title of each poem. The poetry titles are all related to the components that surround the dangdut koplo group community, some are related to the name of the singer, the name of the musician, the guitar, the drummer, the flute, and so on.

This study aims to analyze environmental-themed discourse and ecolexicon forms in the Revised Edition of the Indonesian Language Textbook for grade VII students of junior high schools/Islamic junior high schools. Through an ecolinguistic approach, this study explores the use of language in texts to represent environmental issues. Data were taken from textbooks published by the Ministry of Education and Culture in 2023. This study uses a descriptive analytical method with documentation, listening, and note-taking techniques, as well as interactive data analysis. The results of the study show that environmental-themed discourse in the Indonesian Language Textbook Revised Edition in 2023 is dominated by discourse in the form of news texts. Ecolexicons in environmental discourse are manifested in the form of words and phrases. The diversity of these themes has the potential to increase students' awareness of environmental issues. However, the findings also show that the presentation of environmental-themed discourse is still lacking, so further efforts are needed to integrate ecological values in textbooks in order to build students' ecological intelligence.

This study aims to analyze word formation in Letto's Lethologica album from a morphological perspective. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The research data are in the form of types, processes, and meanings of word formation in several song lyrics. While the source of research data is three song lyrics in Letto's Lethologica album. The data collection technique uses the listening method and the note-taking technique as a continuation. The results of this study indicate that there are 6 affixations, 5 reduplications, and 1 composition in the first song lyrics. 14 affixations, 3 reduplications, and 1 composition in the second song lyrics. 7 affixations, 2 reduplications, and 2 compositions in the third song lyrics. Thus, it can be concluded that the type of word formation that often appears is the affixation process.

Social media is a type of online media that is used to help people interact with each other through the internet. Social media is not only used to communicate and interact, but also for self-expression and self-branding, such as taking photos and making videos in various styles. This study aims to analyze speech actions carried out by elementary school students in conversations on social media. Social media has become a significant communication space for elementary school students, it affects the way they convey their intentions, information, and emotions. The method used is a literature study. The results of this study show: 1) Characteristics of Elementary School Students' Speech Behavior on Social Media, students always use unique and creative language, they can also express their feelings and thoughts freely, in other social media students always interact with friends and others through comments and messages so that it can foster a social spirit in students. 2) The Impact of Social Media on the Communication Development of Elementary School Students, there is a positive impact, namely that some students can communicate in English because they often see content creators from within and outside the country. The negative impact is that students often speak words using poor language. 3) Implications In Education, students always want to seek information to improve learning achievement.

This study aims to identify errors in the use of language related to spelling, morphology, syntax, and semantics in the Suara Merdeka newspaper and provide solutions to correct the errors found. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. Data collection in this study was carried out by taking Suara Merdeka news published on October 11, 2024. The data source in this study was the Suara Merdeka online newspaper in the economic column in the MSME sector. The selected news was stored in text format in a word file so that analysis was easier to do. Errors were checked based on spelling categories according to EYD V rules. The findings of the error results were recorded regularly in a table, including the types of errors and their corrections. Data collection techniques include reading and recording the use of language in newspapers. The method applied in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques that include reading activities and recording the use of language in newspapers. The results of the October 11, 2024 edition of the study show that there are various types of language errors in newspapers. In the article entitled “National Tourism Has the Potential to Grow Regional MSMEs”, there were 5 spelling errors, 1 italic error, 2 syntax errors, 2 semantic errors, and 2 errors each in morphology and affixed words. These errors are generally caused by a lack of attention to the correct language rules according to EYD V.

The purpose of this study was to: (1) determine the ability to write explanatory texts of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua before using the Metacognitive learning model; (2) determine the ability to write explanatory texts of class VIII students after the Metacognitive learning model was applied; and (3) determine the effect of the Metacognitive learning model on the ability to write explanatory texts of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua. This study used a two-group test design and experimental methodology. The sample in this study consisted of 32 students from each control and experimental class, while the population used in this study consisted of all class VIII students at SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua totaling 64 students. The researcher tested the analysis requirements, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test as part of the quantitative data analysis methodology to support this study. Based on the results of the study, the ability to write official letters of students before using the Metacognitive learning model had an average score of 62.1, which was in the sufficient range. Students who used the Metacognitive learning paradigm obtained an average score of 80.9, which was in the very good group. The provisions of ttable = 1.69726 and tcount = 5.398 are determined based on the results of the t-test conducted at a significance level of α = 0.05. Since tcount > ttable, or 5.398 > 1.69726, the alternative hypothesis, Ha, is accepted and the null hypothesis, H0, is rejected. Based on these results, it can be said that students of grade VIII of SMP Negeri 2 Deli Tua benefit from learning that utilizes the Metacognitive learning paradigm in terms of their capacity to create Explanatory Texts

This study analyzes the negative comments received by childfree women on social media, focusing on the Instagram account @indo_psychology and X account @tanyarlfes using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis model. This research explores how the language in the comments reinforces social norms that assume women's main role is as mothers. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. The research data was collected from the comments posted in both accounts. Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis approach was applied to analyze the subject, object, and reader in the six comments of Instagram account @Indo_Psychology and X account @tanyarlfes. The two social media accounts are Subjects and Childfree as Objects. The results show that negative comments often contain views that blame and shame childfree women, affecting people's perceptions and reinforcing social stigma. This research focuses on countering negative stereotypes and promoting gender equality in society.
