Abstract

The 21st century's digital disruption, intensified mobility, and the resurgence of identity-based polarization have reconfigured the aims of education beyond cognitive achievement toward ethical agency, intercultural competence, and socially responsible citizenship. This article examines how Indonesian pesantren-Islamic boarding schools with a long tradition of moral formation-cultivate multicultural character and what lessons their value-based ecology offers for global educational development. Using library research, the study conducts a philosophical and conceptual content analysis of peer-reviewed scholarship, pesantren-related policy and curricular documents, and global education frameworks, especially Global Citizenship Education and Education for Sustainable Development. The synthesis indicates that pesantren operationalize multicultural character through (1) ethical-theological foundations such as rahmatan lil 'alamin and ukhuwah insaniyah, (2) communal pedagogies emphasizing exemplary leadership (uswah), habituation, and community learning, and (3) adaptive innovations that integrate digital literacy with moral restraint. These practices foster moderation, empathy, inclusivity, and civic responsibility-capabilities aligned with 21st-century learning agendas. The article proposes a Pesantren-Based Multicultural Character Education Model (PBMCEM) as a transferable conceptual framework. Implications are discussed for curriculum design, teacher formation, and policy, highlighting how localized religious-moral traditions can inform internationally relevant strategies for multicultural character education.

Abstract

The phenomenon of low literacy quality in Indonesia is a very urgent problem to be overcome, considering that literacy is a basic skill that is very important for every individual, especially students. Literacy not only includes the ability to read and write, but also includes the skills of critical thinking, analyzing, and understanding information. With low literacy skills among students, this hinders their ability to access the more complex knowledge needed in later education. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that affect the low quality of literacy in Indonesia and explore the development of innovative literacy teaching models that can be implemented in primary schools. In addition, this study also aims to provide recommendations for the development of education policies related to literacy. This research uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. Data was collected from relevant scientific literature, including journal articles, reference books, and conference articles. The main focus of this study is the text-based and technology-based literacy teaching model, as well as its relationship with students' critical thinking skills. The analysis technique used is thematic analysis to identify patterns and trends related to the research topic. Based on the research that was found, the low quality of literacy in Indonesia is caused by several factors, including lack of access to quality teaching materials, limited resources, and lack of teachers' skills in using technology in teaching literacy. The use of digital technologies such as e-books and gamification-based learning platforms can increase students' reading interest and improve their literacy skills. Literacy teaching models that integrate project-based and text-based approaches have proven effective in improving students' understanding and skills in literacy. This study concludes that to improve the quality of literacy in Indonesia, there needs to be reforms in teacher training, with a focus on integrating technology in literacy teaching. Teaching models that combine technology and text-based methods can be an effective solution to address literacy challenges in Indonesia. This research contributes to the development of literacy-based education policies that are more relevant and applicable at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to reinterpret maqasid al-shariah, particularly hifdz al-mal and tahqiq al-maslahah, in assessing the post-pandemic regulatory framework of sharia fintech lending in Indonesia based on OJK Regulation No. 10/POJK.05/2022 and DSN–MUI Fatwa No. 117/2018. It seeks to evaluate the extent to which these regulations respond to emerging risks from the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and blockchain, while supporting sustainable financial inclusion. Methodology: Employing a qualitative normative juridical approach, this research analyzes positive law (OJK regulations, UU ITE, UU PDP) and DSN-MUI fatwas through content analysis combined with a maqasid al-shariah framework. Secondary data from statutes, fatwas, policy documents, and contemporary literature on Islamic fintech and maqasid al-shariah are systematically examined to map regulatory provisions on contracts, transparency, risk mitigation, consumer protection, and data governance. Results: The findings show that the existing framework has facilitated the growth of sharia P2P lending and supported financial inclusion and MSME empowerment, yet it remains only partially aligned with maqasid al-shariah. Gaps persist in the form of digital gharar arising from opaque AI-based scoring, potential embedded riba in risk-pricing, and vulnerabilities in personal data protection that are not fully addressed by current regulations. Applications/Originality/Value: This study offers a maqasid-based reinterpretation of sharia fintech lending regulation in the post-pandemic era by proposing regulatory ijtihad on algorithmic transparency, sharia-compliant smart contracts, and data protection standards. It contributes a conceptual model of shariah tech governance that integrates fiqh muamalah, positive law, and ethical technology principles, thereby positioning sharia fintech as a vehicle for sustainable financial inclusion and the achievement of SDGs 8 and 10.

Abstract

The concept of adab in Islamic education plays a pivotal role in shaping the character and moral development of students. Adab, which encompasses ethics, morality, and spiritual values, goes beyond mere social politeness; it integrates character formation with intellectual and spiritual growth. This study explores the application of adab in both traditional and modern Islamic educational practices, emphasizing its significance in fostering a well-rounded individual. In traditional settings, such as pesantren and madrasahs, adab is deeply embedded in the learning process, with teachers serving as role models for both academic and moral values. However, modern education systems, often focused on academic achievement and technical skills, tend to overlook the importance of adab, resulting in a gap in character education. This research identifies the challenges of integrating adab into contemporary education, particularly in the face of technological advancements and the shifting priorities of global education systems. By proposing a more holistic approach, this study suggests that integrating adab into modern curricula can bridge the gap between intellectual competence and moral integrity, fostering individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also ethically responsible. The findings underscore the importance of revisiting adab in Islamic education to create a balanced educational framework that nurtures both the mind and the soul.

Abstract

Tawhid education is the main foundation in the formation of Muslim character with integrity, but in modern educational practices, the values of monotheism are often fragmented and lose their applicative relevance. This research was conducted to formulate the values of monotheistic education contained in the story of the Prophet Ibrahim 'alaihissalām as the basis for the formation of a complete and contextual Muslim character. Using a qualitative approach with library research and thematic analysis of the Qur'an (tafsir maudhu'i), this study collects and examines verses related to the story of the Prophet Ibrahim, especially in QS. Al-An'ām, QS. Ash-Shaffāt, QS. Ibrahim, and QS. Al-Baqarah. The results of the study show that the story of the Prophet Ibrahim contains five main values of monotheistic education, namely faith and belief, submission and sacrifice, rationality and wisdom, prayer and family education, and morality and example. These findings confirm that monotheism is not only a theological concept, but an educational paradigm that unites spiritual, intellectual, and moral dimensions. This research contributes to the strengthening of the theory of integrative monotheism based on Islamic education and offers a character learning model that is relevant to the social and cultural context of today's Muslim society. The conclusion of the study shows the need to develop an empirical study on the implementation of monotheistic values in the contemporary Islamic education system to strengthen its pedagogical relevance.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of education in supporting adolescents' transition to adulthood, focusing on its impact on psychosocial development, identity formation, and emotional regulation. The approach used is a systematic literature review (SLR) with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines to ensure transparency and accuracy in data synthesis. A literature search was conducted on the Scopus database, which yielded 10 articles that met the inclusion criteria related to formal education and adolescent development. The results showed that education has a significant influence on shaping self-identity, improving emotional regulation, and preparing adolescents for mature decision-making, especially regarding careers and social responsibilities. In addition, education also improves psychological well-being, with interventions that combine social-emotional learning and experiences that enhance adolescents' emotional resilience. These findings also highlight the importance of the role of family and an inclusive educational environment in supporting adolescent development. Based on these findings, it is recommended that education policies place greater emphasis on psychosocial aspects rather than just academics, by creating an educational environment that supports the development of adolescents' identity, autonomy, and emotional well-being. Education that focuses on social-emotional development can accelerate adolescents' transition to healthier and more responsible adulthood.

Abstract

This research analyzes the Qur'anic concept of "advice" as a fundamental ethical principle and its relevance in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI). By redefining "advice" from literal guidance to a transformative moral action, the study contrasts traditional ethics with the mechanics of modern AI recommendation systems. Using a qualitative-descriptive method, this research integrates Tafsir bil-Ma'tsūr (via Shafwatut Tafāsīr) and the Wujūh wa Naẓā'ir approach, synthesized through Abdullah Saeed's Contextualist framework and the "Double Movement" theory to bridge historical textual values with contemporary technological challenges. The findings reveal a dualistic character of counsel in the Qur'an: the sincere mandate of the prophets versus manipulative counsel used for deception, such as in the stories of Satan and Joseph's brothers. This proves that "advice" is not ethically neutral but is fundamentally defined by intention and context. Consequently, this study provides a vital theological critique of "algorithmic advice" that is often exploitative in nature. By offering a religious ethical framework based on trust (amanah) and sincerity (ikhlas), this research contributes a normative foundation for AI development that prioritizes human dignity and moral accountability, while providing practical insights into mitigating information manipulation in the digital era.

Abstract

This research aims to provide a systematic review of the application of deep learning technology in education and the challenges faced in its implementation. With the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in education, especially in personalized learning, this research is important to understand the potential and barriers that affect the successful implementation of this technology. The main objective of this study is to identify the application of deep learning in education, evaluate the challenges faced, and assess its impact on the quality of learning in the formal and non-formal sectors. The method used is a systematic literature review by following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Relevant articles were selected from various academic databases published between 2020 and 2026. After screening, 13 articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed using narrative synthesis and thematic analysis approaches. The results show that deep learning can improve learning personalization, provide faster feedback, and increase student engagement. However, the main challenges faced are the limitations of technology infrastructure, unrepresentative data quality, and the difficulty of educators in integrating this technology. Issues related to data privacy and technology access gaps are also significant obstacles. This study recommends the need for policies that support more equitable access to technology, educator training, and increased transparency in the use of deep learning models.
