Abstract

The widespread use of metaphors in medical therapy dialogues and the heightened mental health issue in South Korea made researchers want to study further how the unique forms of metaphors are produced, one of which is depression. This study aims to find out what conceptualizations of depressive metaphors are produced in mental health therapy dialogs between the writer and his psychiatrist which are described in the Korean essay book 죽고 싶지만 떡볶이는 먹고 싶어 (Jukkko Sipjjiman Ttokppokkineun Mokko Sipo) 'I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki ' by Baek Se-Hee with a study of cognitive semantics. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the method of collecting data using listening and note taking techniques. The data analysis method used in this study is Metaphor Identification Procedure Vrije Universiteit (MIPVU) procedure. Data presentation methods used are formal and informal methods. As a result, there are four conceptual metaphors of depression that are formed, namely DEPRESSION IS A PRISON, DEPRESSION IS A SPINNING WHEEL, DEPRESSION IS DARKNESS, and DEPRESSION IS WAR. These four conceptualizations are formed from various metaphorical expressions expressed by the author and his psychiatrist regarding the depression experienced by the writer.

Abstract

This article examines the types of questions used by judges in the legal process at the District Court, especially in criminal case involving five police officers in Indonesia of murder case. The trial took five months, from September 2022 to March 2023. one of the reasons for the length of the trial process was because the defendant did not honestly provided information and statements. The judge as the interrogator must have interrogation skills so that the evidence and statements from witnesses can prove that the defendant committed the crime. This research is qualitative research with a case study method. The criminal case for the murder of Joshua Hutabarat was used as a data source and the judge's speech with the defendant during the trial was used as data. There were three trial videos analyzed, namely the judge's speech with the defendant Ferdi Sambo, the judge with Richard Eliezer and the judge with Putri Candrawinata. Data collection uses recording and recording techniques as well as documentation. The results of the research explain that the tendency of the question patterns given by judges is 385 open questions and 260 closed questions. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the judge asked questions using an open, productive pattern of questions to seek evidence/information regarding the truth of the perpetrator's involvement. However, for some purposes, such as emphasizing information from videos or documents, judges tend to ask questions using a closed question pattern. The questions given only provide yes/no answer choices from the defendant.

Abstract

Although BIPA students possess the speaking skill to communicate in Indonesian, the noticeable influence of foreign languages is still evident. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and describe student’s speaking skills as foreign speakers in BIPA learning. In order to accomplish this goal, a qualitative research method was used to gather data from a BIPA student who was still struggling to speak Indonesian fluently. The results show that he frequently ceased to speak Indonesian, used the sentences in accordance with their context, and extended a greeting to his teacher during an online Zoom meeting. Additionally, he addressed questions presented by the teacher. He continued to lack understanding of Indonesian grammar and structure, as well as vocabulary mastery. The video suggests that the BIPA student was reading the notebook while practicing counting. It lacked authenticity. As a result, the Indonesian language became the native tongue. Based on this research, the teacher needs to request that the BIPA student engage in additional practice.

Abstract

There is a unique form of child abuse in Japan. Mothers abandoned newborn babies (alive or stillborn) in a coin locker, famously known as koin rokkaa beibizu (coin locker babies). This research aims to reveal the levels of Kiku and Hashi’s (the coin locker babies) angry emotions from the least intense to the most intense. This research applied a qualitative method as a process of research and understanding based on a methodology that investigates social phenomena and human problems. Data analysis utilizes Parrot’s theory of emotions. In conclusion, Kiku and Hashi’s emotions are all explicit. Kiku and Hashi underwent three levels of anger, from tertiary to primary. The children’s anger implicitly derives from their mothers’ negligence. As the victims of child abuse, Kiku and Hashi became emotionally disturbed children. Kiku and Hashi experienced a phase of anger (primary emotion) and became depersonalized. Kiku and Hashi’s anger continued to spread massive damage.
