Abstract

Algorithms and Programming play an important role in developing computational thinking skills; however, students’ understanding of this subject, including at MTsN 2 Solok, remains relatively low. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying the Game-Based Learning model using the CodeCombat platform on improving students’ programming comprehension. The research employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design, involving two classes—VIII A and VIII B—selected through purposive sampling, each consisting of 32 students as the experimental and control groups. Data were collected through validated multiple-choice pre-tests and post-tests, then analyzed using the paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test after meeting normality and homogeneity assumptions. The results show a significant improvement in programming comprehension in the experimental class after game-based learning with CodeCombat, with an average post-test score of 80.62 compared to 62.63 in the control class. It is concluded that the application of Game-Based Learning with CodeCombat is effective in enhancing students’ programming comprehension. The implications of this research include enriching the literature on game-based learning in informatics education and providing recommendations for educators to utilize interactive media in programming instruction, while also opening opportunities for further studies on the effects of duration and intensity of educational game use on learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the limited research on the role of ustadzah as an ethical role model (uswah hasanah) who consciously applies humanizing education, despite its significant impact on shaping female students’ learning ethics. The research aims to explore in depth the role of ustadzah as uswah hasanah in shaping students’ learning ethics through Qur’anic learning. A descriptive qualitative case study approach was employed, involving ustadzah, female students (santriwati), and pesantren leaders selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document study, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings show that the role of ustadzah is significant and multidimensional, encompassing functions as a teacher, mentor, and ethical role model. The study affirms that the exemplary conduct of ustadzah is a crucial element in shaping students’ learning ethics. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of the ustadzah’s holistic role in creating a learning environment that supports comprehensive character and ethical development. The implications include enriching the literature on the multidimensional role of ustadzah and providing practical recommendations for pesantren and ustadzah to enhance training in humanizing education, while also opening opportunities for further studies on modern challenges to the personal inculcation of Qur’anic values.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the development of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, marked by advances in technology, information, and communication that have brought significant changes to lifestyle, social, economic, and cultural patterns. One relevant educational innovation is the use of digital learning media based on interactive e-modules, such as Flipbook Maker. The research aims to produce a Flipbook Maker learning medium that is valid and practical for teaching vertical increase layer haircutting to students of the Beauty and Cosmetology Department at Universitas Negeri Padang. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with the 4D development model (Define, Design, Development, Dissemination). The instruments used were validity and practicality questionnaires, completed by lecturers and students to assess the feasibility of the medium. The results show material expert validity of 0.67 (valid), media expert validity of 0.87 (highly valid), and language expert validity of 0.85 (highly valid). The practicality score from students reached 0.91 (highly practical). In conclusion, the Flipbook Maker medium for teaching vertical increase layer haircutting meets the criteria of validity and practicality, making it suitable as an interactive teaching material to support the learning process in the digital era.

Abstract

Bullying is a recurring issue among adolescents, particularly in school environments, and has drawn serious attention from various stakeholders, including the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (Komisi Perlindungan Anak Indonesia, KPAI). This study aims to analyze the relationship between peer attachment and bullying behavior among junior high school students. A quantitative approach was employed, using a questionnaire distributed to 261 students from several junior high schools in Padang City. The sample was selected using a simple random sampling technique, based on the Isaac and Michael table with a 5% margin of error. The results show that students’ level of peer attachment falls within the high category (44.4% or 116 students), while bullying behavior is in the low category (52.9% or 138 students). Correlation analysis reveals a weak negative relationship between peer attachment and bullying behavior (r = -0.128), with validity coefficients ranging from 0.807–0.792 for peer attachment and 0.761–0.740 for bullying behavior. These findings indicate that higher levels of peer attachment are associated with a lower tendency to engage in bullying, and vice versa. This study contributes to the broader understanding of relational factors in the prevention of bullying behavior among adolescents.

Abstract

The moral degradation observed among younger generations reflects a weakness in the internalization of values within formal education, highlighting the need for value-based educational institutions such as pesantren to comprehensively instill the character of discipline. This study aims to analyze the mechanisms of value transactions in shaping students’ (santri's) disciplinary character at Pondok Pesantren Baitul Qur’an Wonogiri. Value transaction is understood as the process of exchanging values through intensive social interactions among kyai, ustadz, and santri, both verbally and nonverbally, through role modeling, habituation, rules, reward and punishment systems, and collective activities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Primary data sources include the pesantren leadership, mentoring ustadz, and students; secondary data were obtained from official pesantren documents. Data analysis follows the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The study seeks to identify the values being exchanged, describe the mechanisms of discipline formation through interactions within the pesantren, and uncover supporting and inhibiting factors in value internalization. Theoretically, the study contributes to the literature on community-based character education, while practically, it serves as a reference for pesantren in strengthening strategies for building student discipline.

Abstract

This study provides an in-depth examination of the philosophy of tauhid-based education, which serves as the foundational pillar of the educational system at Pesantren An Nahl Sragen. Tauhid education is positioned as the core of all learning processes, character development, and personality formation of the students (santri). A qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Pesantren An Nahl applies tauhid not merely as a subject of instruction, but as a comprehensive paradigm for thinking, behaving, and acting in daily life. This philosophy is integrated into the curriculum, teaching methods, and moral-spiritual development, creating an educational environment that harmoniously combines creed (akidah), ethics (akhlak), and knowledge. The study affirms that tauhid-based education plays a central role in shaping a generation that is faithful, knowledgeable, and morally upright in accordance with Islamic values.

Abstract

This work, titled Visualizing the Power of Mamak in the Modern Era through Surrealist Painting, aims to depict the role and symbolic strength of the Mamak figure in Minangkabau matrilineal culture through a surrealist art approach. The medium used is oil on canvas, featuring everyday objects portrayed in unconventional and symbol-laden ways in accordance with the characteristics of surrealism. The creation process involved several stages: proposal development, sketch refinement, consultations, painting execution, and final finishing. This artwork seeks to elevate traditional cultural values that remain relevant in the modern era while offering a creative and profound visual interpretation. The resulting artistic findings are expected to contribute to cultural preservation and the advancement of contemporary visual art in Indonesia.

Abstract

The emergence of negative stigma toward men who use skincare, despite growing awareness of the importance of facial care, reflects a persistent barrier rooted in gender perceptions. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing men's decisions to use skincare products. A quantitative method was employed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) approach. The research sample consisted of 93 male students from the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality at Universitas Negeri Padang, all of whom were active skincare users. Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via Google Form and analyzed using SmartPLS 4 to assess both direct and indirect relationships among variables. The findings indicate that psychological factors, economic and product-related factors, informational media, and situational factors directly influence men's skincare usage decisions, while demographic and social factors do not have a direct effect. Furthermore, social, economic and product-related, and situational factors indirectly influence decisions through the mediation of informational media. These findings offer empirical insights into the determinants of male consumer behavior in skincare usage and have implications for marketing strategies that are responsive to gender-related issues.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of transformational leadership style and organizational commitment on employee performance at Andesya Studio Salon in Bukittinggi. A quantitative approach was employed using a causal analysis method, where the independent variables were transformational leadership style and organizational commitment, and the dependent variable was employee performance. The research sample consisted of 32 employees selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a questionnaire that had been tested for validity using Pearson correlation and for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, with t-tests to assess the partial effect of each independent variable on the dependent variable, and an F-test to evaluate their simultaneous effect. The findings are expected to provide empirical evidence on the contribution of transformational leadership style and organizational commitment to improving employee performance. The implications of this study offer a more comprehensive understanding of the strategic role of leadership and organizational commitment in optimizing employee performance within the service sector.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of using Android-based informatics e-modules with interactive features on student learning outcomes at SMK Negeri 9 Padang. A quantitative approach was employed using a quasi-experimental design involving two classes as the sample: an experimental class utilizing the e-module and a control class without it, each consisting of 30 students. The research instrument was a cognitive test comprising a pre-test and post-test. Data were analyzed using paired sample t-tests and independent t-tests. The results showed that the use of Android-based e-modules had a significant positive effect on improving learning outcomes, with the experimental class achieving a higher average post-test score of 88.3 compared to 79.0 in the control class, and a t-test significance value of 0.001 (< 0.05). These findings confirm that Android-based e-modules can serve as an effective alternative for enhancing the quality of learning in schools.
