Abstract

The Front Office is the frontline service unit that plays a strategic role in shaping library users’ service experiences in academic libraries, including the Andalas University Library, where interactions between staff and users are highly intensive. This study aimed to analyze users’ perceptions of the service experiences they receive at the Front Office of the Andalas University Library by drawing on theories of perception, service quality (SERVQUAL), and service experience. The method employed was a literature study with descriptive analysis of works related to library services, service quality, and user behavior. The findings indicate that users’ perceptions of the Front Office are shaped by several key factors, namely staff interpersonal communication competence, clarity of information, speed and accuracy of service procedures, staff professionalism in addressing users’ needs, and the quality of the Front Office’s physical facilities; these factors jointly contribute to the formation of both positive and negative service experiences. The study underscores the importance of strengthening service standards, enhancing staff competencies, optimizing service information, and developing Front Office physical facilities as key strategies for improving users’ perceptions of and satisfaction with services at the Andalas University Library as a whole.

Abstract

Conformity and obedience are two central concepts in social psychology, yet their transformation within digital culture has received relatively limited systematic attention. This study aims to examine the evolution of conformity and obedience from classical perspectives to the digital era and to identify new forms of social influence mediated by algorithms, online norms, and platform interaction mechanisms. Adopting a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review design, the study analyzes 52 scholarly publications selected through purposive sampling from various academic databases. Data were collected through structured searches and analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns, conceptual shifts, and new configurations of social influence. The findings reveal fundamental changes in the mechanisms of social influence in digital spaces, where digital signals such as likes, followers, algorithmic recommendations, and visibility indicators of popularity function as new forms of normative pressure and symbolic authority. These results contribute to the refinement of social influence theory by introducing the dimensions of digital conformity and digital obedience, and by expanding understanding of how human behavior is shaped by the architecture and structures of digital media. The study underscores the importance of digital literacy and critical awareness of algorithmic mechanisms to reduce vulnerability to online social influence and opens avenues for further research on variations in digital influence across different user groups and social media platforms.

Abstract

Islam and civilization constitute an inseparable unity, as from its very emergence Islam has brought a civilizational concept and mission rooted in dîn (religion) grounded in divine revelation, so that Islamic civilization is known as tamaddun or madaniyyah. Building on this view, this article aims to explicate in detail the meaning and concept of civilization, to compare Western and Islamic civilizations, and to explain the nature of Islam as religion, revelation, thought, and civilization on the basis of reliable historical evidence. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method grounded in literature review and philosophical–historical analysis of key civilizational concepts within both Western and Islamic traditions. The findings show that Islamic civilization is rooted in revelation and historically embodied, among others, through the experience of Madinah as the initial locus for articulating Islamic tamaddun, whereas modern Western civilization tends to be built upon the centrality of human reason and subjectivity, giving rise to the dominance of a secular–cognitive civilization. This comparative analysis underscores the fundamental distinctions between the two, while simultaneously offering a critique of the hegemony of modern Western civilization that tends to neglect the dimensions of revelation and transcendence. The study concludes that, from an Islamic perspective, human reason and intellect should ideally operate in harmony with revelation, and that Islam has historically shaped world civilization for centuries, thereby offering an alternative paradigm for developing a civilization that more evenly balances spiritual, moral, and rational dimensions.

Abstract

The era of Society 5.0 demands that the education sector, including Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI), undergo transformation and adapt to the rapid development of digital technologies without neglecting the importance of spiritual literacy as the foundation for students’ character formation. This article aims to analyze forms of PAI instructional transformation through the utilization of digital technology integrated with the strengthening of spiritual literacy. The research method employed is library research with a descriptive–analytical approach to literature related to PAI, educational technology, and the discourse on Society 5.0. The findings indicate that the transformation of PAI in the Society 5.0 era is manifested through the use of digital platforms, the deployment of artificial intelligence–based media, the development of hybrid curricula, and the implementation of interactive learning models combined with the cultivation of spiritual values grounded in critical reflection and the internalization of religious teachings. The integration of digital technology and spiritual literacy is assessed as capable of addressing contemporary educational challenges while preserving the core objective of nurturing noble character. The article concludes that the development of innovative, relevant, and character-oriented PAI learning models depends heavily on the capacity of educators and educational institutions to manage the synergy between digital technology and spiritual literacy, and it is expected to serve as a reference for the formulation of policies and instructional practices in PAI in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

The concept of the soul and Islamic ethics according to Imam Al-Ghazali is highly relevant to the formation of human personality, particularly in the context of character education in the modern era. This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of Al-Ghazali’s structure of the soul, which encompasses the faculties of reason, anger, and desire, and to explain how these three are refined and balanced through Islamic ethics to produce a mature and moral personality, while also elucidating Al-Ghazali’s contribution to the development of akhlak and contemporary character education. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach, drawing primarily on Al-Ghazali’s major works such as Ihya’ Ulumuddin, Mizan al-‘Amal, and Kimya’ al-Sa‘adah, which are further enriched by secondary literature in the form of journals, books, and previous studies on Islamic ethics and psychology. The analysis shows that, in Al-Ghazali’s view, the human soul contains both good and bad potentials that must be directed through the purification of the heart (tazkiyah al-nafs) and the control of base desires, with Islamic ethics functioning as a practical guide for shaping behavior through moral training, habituation to virtuous deeds, and the purification of intention. Personality formation is understood as a spiral process that requires continuous balance among spiritual, intellectual, and emotional potentials. These findings affirm that Al-Ghazali’s thought is highly relevant to contemporary character education because it emphasizes the integration of moral and spiritual dimensions as the foundation of personality, thereby offering an important contribution to efforts to cultivate individuals who are morally upright, wise, and emotionally stable.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze noise levels along the Padang–Bukittinggi arterial road, with a specific focus on the Lubuk Alung Market area in Padang Pariaman Regency, which is characterized by high traffic intensity and community mobility, thereby creating noise that has the potential to reduce environmental comfort and endanger public health when its intensity exceeds established quality standards. The research employs a descriptive quantitative approach with purposive sampling at three strategic measurement points. Primary data were obtained by measuring noise intensity using a sound level meter with five-second recording intervals over ten minutes in the morning, at midday, and in the afternoon, both on working days and holidays. The data were processed using Microsoft Excel and spatially analyzed through Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolation in ArcGIS 10.3. The results show that all measurement points exhibit high noise levels, with the highest values recorded at Point 2, which consistently exceeded 79 dBA, as well as a tendency for increased noise intensity at midday and in the afternoon in line with higher levels of human and vehicular activity. These findings underscore the need for noise mitigation strategies, such as traffic management, spatial zoning, and the installation of acoustic barriers, to create a healthier and more comfortable environment for residents in the Lubuk Alung Market area.

Abstract

Pesantren education in Indonesia plays a fundamental role in the development of Islamic education, yet it still faces the challenges of modernity, including the stigma that its educational system is outdated. This study aims to identify and analyze the forms of reform undertaken in pesantren and their impact on educational quality. A qualitative approach with a literature study method was employed, drawing on relevant journal articles and books on pesantren educational reform. The findings indicate that reform in pesantren education is crucial to addressing contemporary challenges, particularly through curriculum integration that is more aligned with current societal needs and the modernization of educational processes to enhance quality and graduate competitiveness. The results also show that government support and community participation are key factors in driving educational innovation in pesantren, while the involvement of santri in the reform process strengthens the relevance and acceptance of the changes implemented. This study affirms that pesantren educational reform requires sustained synergy among stakeholders to ensure the quality, relevance, and sustainability of pesantren education amid ongoing social change.

Abstract

Language, moral, and psychosocial development during adolescence constitutes a critical phase in shaping character and identity, thereby requiring educational approaches that can integrate these three aspects to support adolescents in facing physical, cognitive, and social developmental challenges. This article aims to theoretically analyze the relationships among language, moral, and psychosocial development in adolescents and their implications for educational practice. The study employs a literature review method through stages of collecting, identifying, classifying, and critically analyzing relevant scholarly sources. The analytical process includes a review of the basic concepts of language, moral, and psychosocial development, as well as their interconnections in the context of adolescent development. The findings indicate that language functions not only as a medium of communication but also as a tool for moral reasoning that mediates the internalization of values and ethical decision-making, while psychosocial development is strongly influenced by social interactions and environmental factors, including family, school, and the wider community. The discussion underscores the need for integrative educational approaches so that the development of language, moral, and psychosocial aspects can proceed synergistically, enabling adolescents to grow into intellectually competent, morally grounded, and psychosocially healthy individuals who are capable of navigating social dynamics in the era of globalization. Accordingly, learning practices that combine the strengthening of language competence, the cultivation of moral values, and psychosocial support emerge as key strategies to promote holistic adolescent development.

Abstract

Marriage is a physical and spiritual bond between a man and a woman as husband and wife to establish a family characterized by sakinah, mawaddah, wa rahmah. However, in the modern era there remains the tradition of prohibiting marriages between first and third children (lusan), which persists as a living cultural practice within society, particularly in the Ponorogo region. This tradition is believed to preserve household harmony and avert misfortunes thought to befall the family, yet in practice it often becomes problematic when examined in light of Islamic law, which upholds the principles of freedom in choosing a spouse, justice, and maslahah (public welfare). This study aims to analyze the tradition of the lusan marriage prohibition from the perspective of Islamic law by examining dalil syar‘i, fiqhiyyah legal maxims, and the ʽurf approach as one of the sources of legal reasoning. The research employs a qualitative method with a normative-empirical approach through literature study and field observation to examine the position of the lusan tradition within the broader framework of the relationship between custom and sharīʿah. This study is expected to provide an analytical basis for formulating a proportional legal stance toward the lusan marriage prohibition tradition, thereby achieving a synthesis that respects local wisdom without neglecting the fundamental principles of Islamic law.

Abstract

Islamic philosophy functions not only as an intellectual apparatus but also as a practical guide in everyday life, in which Al-Kindi’s contribution occupies an important position as a bridge between the tradition of Greek philosophy and the Islamic thought that developed in the Arab world. This article aims to identify Al-Kindi’s philosophy of life and analyze its relevance in the context of contemporary plural societies by examining how his ideas can be applied to build morality and ethics in diverse communities. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method, drawing on relevant journal articles and books concerning Al-Kindi’s thought on Islamic ethics. The findings indicate that Al-Kindi’s contribution to Islamic ethics is highly significant and provides a strong foundation for the subsequent development of Islamic philosophical thought, particularly through his exposition of the relationship between God, human beings, and the universe as a comprehensive ethical basis. The significance of his views lies in their capacity to integrate Islamic teachings with classical Greek philosophy and in his emphasis on the role of education in shaping individual character and morality. This study concludes that Al-Kindi’s ethical thought is highly relevant in the modern era, particularly as a conceptual framework for strengthening public ethics and serving as a bridge for interreligious and intercultural dialogue within plural societies.
