Abstract

Studies on the use of Roland Barthes’s five semiotic codes in Indonesian literature remain limited, particularly comprehensive analyses that explain how all five codes operate simultaneously within a single text. This study aims to analyze the operation of the proairetic, hermeneutic, cultural, semic, and symbolic codes in the short story “Tak Ada yang Gila di Kota Ini” by Eka Kurniawan and to explain their contribution to the construction of social critique in the narrative. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a textual analysis design, using lexemes, phrases, and sentences as data, which were collected through close reading and note-taking and analyzed using Barthes’s model of semiotic interpretation. The findings show that all of Barthes’s codes appear significantly and mutually reinforce each other: the proairetic code constructs a sequence of exploitative actions, the hermeneutic code generates enigmas surrounding characters’ identities and motives, the cultural code reveals tensions between moral values and economic power, while the semic and symbolic codes intensify the representation of social critique through the connotations and symbolization of the “mad person” character. These results contribute to the development of literary semiotics, particularly in understanding layered structures of meaning in contemporary Indonesian literary works, and underscore the importance of critical reading of symbols and narrative actions in the text, while also opening avenues for further research on the application of Barthes’s codes to other works and media.

Abstract

Authoritarian parenting is a parenting style characterized by numerous rules, high demands, and minimal two-way communication between parents and children, and it is still frequently found in family life, leading to negative effects on emotional and social development, particularly children’s self-confidence. This article aims to explain the concept of authoritarian parenting, analyze its impact on children’s self-confidence, and describe strategies that parents and teachers can implement to promote the use of more positive parenting styles, particularly in the context of nonformal education. The method used is a literature review based on various scholarly sources such as journals, books, and previous research relevant to parenting, self-confidence, and nonformal education. The findings show that authoritarian parenting significantly contributes to low levels of children’s self-confidence, as reflected in children’s tendency to fear making mistakes, difficulty in making decisions, and reluctance to try new things because they are accustomed to mere obedience without being given space to express their opinions. These findings underscore the need to shift towards positive parenting styles that are more democratic, communicative, and supportive, so that children can grow into confident, independent individuals who are able to express themselves in a healthy manner. This article contributes to enriching perspectives on family education and nonformal education by emphasizing the collaborative role of parents and educators in building a constructive parenting climate for the development of children’s self-confidence.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology has driven innovation in education, particularly in the creation of interactive learning media that can enhance students’ motivation and engagement. One prominent approach is gamification, namely the application of game elements in the learning process to create more engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This study aims to design and develop game-based instructional media in the Role-Playing Game (RPG) genre that integrates Information and Communication Technology (ICT) subject matter at SMK Negeri 6 Padang. The development method employed is the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC), which comprises the stages of conceptualization, design, material collection, assembly, testing, and distribution. The resulting game presents an interactive storyline, educational missions, and quizzes based on course content as part of an enjoyable learning system. The findings indicate that this medium improves interactivity and learning effectiveness, as evidenced by expert evaluations and student responses categorized as “feasible for use,” with an average feasibility score of 94.04%. The implementation of gamification through this RPG is concluded to be an innovative solution in digital learning that has the potential to strengthen students’ understanding of ICT content in a more enjoyable, meaningful manner that is aligned with the demands of twenty-first-century learning.

Abstract

Musyrif leadership, exercised by dormitory mentors who accompany students in the pesantren environment, plays a strategic role in directing Qur'anic learning processes, as their intensive daily interactions with santri contribute to the formation of discipline, motivation, and consistency in memorization. This article aims to conceptually analyze the characteristics and dimensions of musyrif leadership, evaluate its contribution to improving the quality of Qur'anic learning, and develop a conceptual model that depicts the interrelationships among leadership attitudes, santri motivation, dormitory discipline, and memorization outcomes. This study is based on a literature review that draws on leadership theories in Islamic education, management of learning processes, and empirical research on tahfizh education published in leading national journals. The review shows that musyrif leadership is complex and encompasses spiritual exemplarity, moral conduct, disciplinary supervision, and instructional functions within the tahfizh process; the integration of these four aspects is aligned with transformational, moral, and instructional leadership theories that emphasize behavioral change, value internalization, and learning optimization. Previous empirical findings indicate that musyrif with strong competencies can enhance perseverance in muroja’ah, the quality of memorization, self-regulation, and the formation of Qur'anic character among santri. Therefore, strengthening musyrif leadership capacity, enhancing leadership training, and implementing character-oriented learning management constitute strategic measures for sustainably improving the quality of tahfizh education, both at the level of dormitory management practices and in the development of conceptual leadership frameworks in Islamic education.

Abstract

Although Islamic law has been the focus of numerous previous studies, research that specifically examines the dialectical relationship among fiqh, usul al-fiqh, and fatwa in contemporary Islamic legal thought remains limited. This study aims to analyze the interconnections among the three main components of the Islamic legal system, namely fiqh as the legal product, usul al-fiqh as the methodology of legal determination, and fatwa as the legal response to contemporary problems faced by the Muslim community. Using a library-based method with analytical-comparative and historical approaches, this study shows that fiqh is the result of scholars’ ijtihad in understanding the scriptural texts of the sharia through the methodologies formulated in usul al-fiqh, whereas fatwa represents the application of fiqh in responding to current issues. The findings indicate that these three elements are bound in a mutually influential dialectical relationship: usul al-fiqh provides the principles and methods for the mujtahid to produce fiqh rulings, fiqh serves as a key reference in the formulation of fatwa, and the evolution of fatwa can, in turn, influence the dynamics of fiqh and even the construction of usul al-fiqh itself. In the contemporary context, a comprehensive understanding of this relationship is crucial for formulating Islamic law that remains responsive to socio-historical developments while firmly rooted in sound sharia principles. This study recommends the development of usul al-fiqh methodologies capable of addressing modern challenges, the enhancement of fiqh ijtihad grounded in in-depth research, and the strengthening of credible and accountable fatwa institutions as strategic efforts to reinforce the relevance of contemporary Islamic law.

Abstract

This study examines the role of community empowerment in enhancing the effectiveness of participatory election monitoring programs implemented by Bawaslu of East Java Province. Although participatory monitoring programs have been widely introduced, research that specifically highlights the contribution of communities as strategic monitoring partners remains limited. This study aims to analyze how community empowerment contributes to improving election literacy, expanding monitoring networks, and strengthening active public participation in election oversight. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were obtained through interviews with staff of the Divisi Parmas and analysis of records from participatory monitoring education activities. The findings show that community empowerment can improve public understanding of electoral processes and regulations, broaden monitoring networks at the grassroots level, and encourage citizens’ involvement in reporting potential violations. Nevertheless, program effectiveness is still constrained by limited community capacity, the continuity of mentoring, and suboptimal program follow-up. These findings affirm that community strengthening is a key strategy for optimizing election monitoring based on public participation and provide practical implications for Bawaslu to design empowerment schemes that are more structured, sustainable, and responsive to the needs of partner communities.

Abstract

Libraries, as institutions that provide information and knowledge, are increasingly required to adapt to technological developments and changing user needs in the digital era. This study aims to examine library management strategies in Indonesia with a focus on strategic planning, human resource management, and key challenges encountered. The method used is a literature review by analyzing various credible sources that discuss library management practices and their development. The findings indicate that well-formulated strategic planning, training and competency development for librarians, and the ability to adapt to information technology are key success factors in library management. However, budget constraints, the shortage of professional librarians, and low public interest in library services remain significant obstacles to optimizing the role of libraries. In conclusion, libraries need to adopt innovative and sustainable strategies to improve service quality, strengthen social relevance, and expand their reach and utilization amid the dynamics of the digital era.

Abstract

Although the cultivation of noble character in elementary schools is often cited as a key educational goal, the systematic application of Islamic philosophical approaches, particularly al-Ghazali’s thought in the context of public schools has rarely been examined from an axiological perspective. This case study aims to analyze the implementation of al-Ghazali’s Islamic philosophical approach in fostering students’ noble character at SD Negeri 03 Karang, with an emphasis on the axiology of Islamic education, namely how moral values and goals are actualized in educational practice. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, drawing on data obtained through in-depth interviews with four teachers and observations of the school environment and activities. The findings show that the integration of spiritual and Sufi-based values inspired by al-Ghazali, such as the emphasis on character (akhlak) as the core of education, strengthens students’ character formation through the habituation of value-laden behaviors, the reinforcement of religious consciousness, and the cultivation of moral responsibility. However, the implementation of this approach faces challenges, including the dominance of a more secular-oriented curriculum and limited formal space for the explicit internalization of Islamic values. This study contributes to enriching the discourse on the axiology of Islam in modern education by demonstrating the practical relevance of al-Ghazali’s ideas for character education in public elementary schools, while also indicating the need for stronger institutional support to ensure more consistent and sustainable integration of Islamic values.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of developing gross motor skills in early childhood as a foundation for physical health, learning readiness, and socio-emotional development, which in the current technological era faces the challenge of increasing screen use and decreasing physical activity. The study aims to describe the role of teachers in developing gross motor skills in early childhood in the era of technology and to identify the challenges and opportunities that arise in this process. A literature study method was employed by reviewing various scientific articles, national journals, and regulations related to early childhood development. The findings indicate that teachers have a strategic role as movement facilitators, designers of learning environments rich in physical stimulation, active behavior models for children, and ongoing observers of gross motor development. In the technological era, teachers are required to integrate technology wisely without reducing children’s need to move and engage in physical activities. However, the implementation of this role faces several challenges, including increased gadget use in children’s daily lives, limited parental support and understanding, insufficient facilities and infrastructure to support physical activities, and the lack of professional training for teachers. The study concludes that close collaboration among teachers, schools, and parents is key to ensuring that children’s gross motor stimulation develops optimally amid technological advancement, and emphasizes the need for policies and support programs oriented toward strengthening physical learning in PAUD institutions.

Abstract

Educational administration is a fundamental aspect that determines the effectiveness of educational provision, particularly in the systematic, planned, and sustainable management of various resources. This study aimed to describe the scope of educational administration through a comprehensive literature review. The method employed was library research by analyzing various academic references, government regulations, and research reports relevant to educational administration. The review findings show that the scope of educational administration encompasses several main domains, namely curriculum administration, student affairs administration, administration of educators and education personnel, administration of facilities and infrastructure, financial administration, public relations administration, and administration of special services. Each domain plays a strategic role in supporting the achievement of educational objectives through interrelated functions of planning, implementation, and evaluation. In addition, the study found that the main challenges in educational administration include limited resources, weak governance, insufficient human resource competence, and low levels of transparency and integration across administrative domains. This study concludes that professional, standardized, and integrated educational administration is urgently needed to improve the quality of education and to respond to the dynamic needs of education in the modern era.
