Abstract

The hosting of the Fourth Asian Games in 1962 was not only an international sporting event but also part of the Indonesian government’s efforts to build the country’s image through Lighthouse Politics during the Soekarno administration. This study aimed to analyze R. Maladi’s role in organizing the Fourth Asian Games and its relationship with the implementation of Lighthouse Politics. The study employed the historical method, comprising topic selection, heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Primary sources included archives from the Arsip Nasional Republik Indonesia, presidential decrees, organizing committee documents, contemporary newspapers and magazines, and the official report of the Fourth Asian Games, supported by relevant secondary literature. The findings showed that R. Maladi’s experience as an athlete, Chair of the Persatuan Sepak Bola Seluruh Indonesia, broadcaster, and government official shaped his capacity to coordinate the organization of the Fourth Asian Games. His administrative role encompassed Indonesia’s bid to host the Games, the refinement of the organizational structure of the Dewan Asian Games Indonesia, interinstitutional communication, press relations, and coordination with the Asian Games Federation. Meanwhile, his technical role included infrastructure development, athlete development, the provision of service facilities, the conduct of dress rehearsals, and event coordination. The Fourth Asian Games, held from August 24 to September 4, 1962, demonstrated Indonesia’s capability as the host through orderly ceremonies, systematic scheduling, and Indonesia’s success in ranking second in the medal standings. This success strengthened Indonesia’s international image and supported Soekarno’s Lighthouse Politics, although the issues involving Taiwan and Israel resulted in diplomatic consequences. This study confirms that R. Maladi played a strategic role in integrating administrative, technical, sporting, and political interests, thereby making the Fourth Asian Games an instrument of diplomacy and a representation of Indonesia’s ambitions during the Guided Democracy era.

Abstract

Although the implementation of information and communication technology (ICT)-based instructional materials in Islamic education has been widely studied, research that explicitly integrates learning needs analysis with the use of Microsoft Sway for religious tolerance material remains limited. This study aims to analyze ICT-based learning needs and establish a conceptual foundation for designing Microsoft Sway-based instructional materials on religious tolerance. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive design involving one Islamic Religious Education teacher and three students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation and were subsequently analyzed using the qualitative data analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. A conceptual analysis was also conducted by integrating findings from previous studies and relevant theories. The findings indicate that ICT-based instructional materials are needed to enhance conceptual understanding, encourage students’ active participation, accommodate flexible learning needs, and create engaging and comprehensive learning experiences. Based on these needs, Microsoft Sway-based instructional materials were conceptually designed by integrating various multimedia learning elements into a single platform. This study emphasizes that learning needs analysis is an important initial stage in the development of effective instructional media. The findings broaden the understanding of digital media use in Islamic education and provide practical guidance for Islamic Religious Education teachers in designing interactive and student-centered instructional materials. The findings may also serve as a foundation for further research on the development and testing of Microsoft Sway-based instructional materials.

Abstract

Although Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) learning on changes in states of matter in elementary schools has been supported by various learning media, students’ low understanding of abstract concepts remains a major obstacle, especially when the media used are still limited to textbooks, pictures, and instructional videos. This study aims to develop MELTING (Media Learning Interactive) interactive multimedia on the topic of changes in states of matter for fourth-grade students at SDN Semen 1 and to determine its levels of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. This study used the Research and Development method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The research subjects consisted of media experts, material experts, fourth-grade teachers, and fourth-grade students at SDN Semen 1. Data were collected through observation, interviews, questionnaires, and learning outcome tests, then analyzed using quantitative descriptive methods. The results show that MELTING interactive multimedia obtained a validity level of 86%, categorized as very valid, based on assessments by media and material experts. The practicality test results showed a percentage of 93%, categorized as very practical, based on teacher and student responses. In addition, the effectiveness test results showed an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an N-gain score of 0.56, which falls into the moderate category. The conclusion of this study affirms that MELTING interactive multimedia is feasible for use as a learning medium on changes in states of matter for fourth-grade elementary school students. The implications of this study show that interactive multimedia can serve as an effective alternative learning medium for improving students’ conceptual understanding and learning outcomes in abstract subject matter.

Abstract

Although the learning strategies used by Islamic Religious Education teachers to foster students’ patterns of social interaction have received attention in various studies, studies that specifically discuss the implementation of the brainstorming method at the elementary school level remain limited. This study aims to describe the learning strategies used by Islamic Religious Education teachers to foster students’ patterns of social interaction at SD Negeri 02 Sialang, Kapur IX Subdistrict, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The research participants consisted of Islamic Religious Education teachers, the principal, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the interactive analysis model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that teachers applied cooperative learning strategies through the brainstorming method, supported by the use of learning media and effective classroom management. This strategy was able to increase students’ activeness in discussion, expressing opinions, working collaboratively, and building positive social interactions during the learning process. However, several students were still found to lack self-confidence and had not participated optimally. The conclusion of this study affirms that cooperative learning strategies based on the brainstorming method can support the development of students’ patterns of social interaction in Islamic Religious Education learning. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the development of studies on Islamic Religious Education learning strategies and practical implications for teachers in designing learning that is more active, collaborative, and oriented toward shaping students’ social character.

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) is a national priority policy mandated through Presidential Regulation Number 115 of 2025 to break the cycle of malnutrition among elementary school-aged children. Although supported by a substantial national budget and clearly defined targets, the success of the program is largely determined by how the policy is translated at the local implementation level. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the MBG Program at SDN 18 Air Tawar Selatan, Padang Utara Subdistrict, Padang City, using Merilee S. Grindle’s Policy Implementation Model as the main theory and Michael Lipsky’s Street-Level Bureaucracy theory as a micro-level analytical lens. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving 17 informants representing the government, school, food provider, parents, and students. The results revealed a significant gap between the normative policy design and operational realities. In the content of policy dimension, the problems included a mismatch between the menu and local preferences that systematically generated food waste, centralized decision-making, and limited implementation capacity. In the context of implementation dimension, power asymmetries among actors and vertically centralized institutional characteristics were identified. These problems were rooted in the failure of the feedback mechanism, or a broken feedback loop, whereby the field-level knowledge held by street-level bureaucrats was unable to drive improvements in policy design at the central level. This study concludes that the effective implementation of the MBG Program requires strengthened implementation capacity, improved logistics infrastructure, and limited decentralization in adapting menus to local conditions. These findings contribute to the development of public policy implementation studies by emphasizing the importance of feedback mechanisms and the involvement of street-level actors in improving nationwide programs.

Abstract

Violence against children remains a serious problem in the implementation of the Child-Friendly City (KLA) initiative, particularly within the Special Protection Cluster. Although the Padang City Government has implemented various programs and services to prevent violence against children, the incidence of such violence remains high and has even increased following the enactment of the Regional Regulation on KLA. This study aimed to analyze the implementation of the KLA Policy for the Special Protection Cluster in preventing violence against children in Padang City and to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors affecting its implementation. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using George C. Edwards III’s policy implementation framework, which encompasses the dimensions of communication, resources, disposition, and bureaucratic structure. The results showed that policy communication had been conducted through school-based dissemination activities and outreach by Community-Based Integrated Child Protection (PATBM) cadres, but its coverage remained uneven. The availability of resources was still limited, particularly in terms of personnel and funding, whereas the disposition dimension indicated a high level of commitment among field-level implementers. In the bureaucratic structure dimension, interagency coordination through the KLA Task Force had been established, but its technical authority remained limited. Uneven policy communication, limited implementation resources, low public awareness, and a weak program evaluation system were the main factors hindering the effectiveness of efforts to prevent violence against children. This study concludes that the implementation of the KLA Policy for the Special Protection Cluster in Padang City has not yet been optimal. The findings emphasize the need to strengthen resource capacity, improve public literacy, expand the reach of policy communication, and develop an evaluation system based on measurable indicators to enhance the effectiveness of child protection.

Abstract

Vocational High Schools (SMK) are designed to produce vocational graduates who are ready to enter the workforce. However, in Cilacap Regency, known as an industrial area in Central Java, SMK graduates are precisely the largest contributors to open unemployment. This study aims to explore the subjective experiences of SMK graduates during their transition into the workforce, identify the barriers they face, and describe their survival strategies in coping with limited job opportunities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews and observations, while secondary data were gathered from journals, references, and relevant documents. The research targets were job seekers who graduated from SMK and have been unemployed for more than one year, as well as officials from the Manpower and Industry Office of Cilacap Regency. Data analysis used the interactive analysis model by Miles and Huberman. The results indicate that SMK graduates face structural and social barriers, including a gap between the learning technology used in schools and the actual demands of the industry, low mastery of soft skills, withholding of graduation certificates due to administrative (financial) issues, the implementation of fixed-term employment contracts (PKWT), limited access to job vacancy information, and a shift in the function of friendship networks into paid job-brokerage practices that exploit personal connections ('insiders') as a means to secure employment. Facing these conditions, graduates develop various adaptive strategies, such as utilizing social media as a source of job vacancy information, independently participating in training and certification programs, and establishing micro-businesses, such as flower bouquet shops and *mendoan* (traditional fried tempeh) businesses. The findings of this study demonstrate that the transition of SMK graduates into the workforce is influenced not only by competence gaps but also by structural barriers in the labor market and shifting social relations among job seekers. This research contributes to the development of the sociology of education by showing that unemployment among SMK graduates is a multidimensional issue requiring the strengthening of competencies based on industry needs, modernization of practical facilities in schools, and soft skills development to ensure graduates align with industrial demands. Furthermore, it highlights the need for expanding access to job market information and strengthening entrepreneurship education as alternatives for the economic independence of graduates.

Abstract

Although access to the capital market has become increasingly convenient, students’ investment interest remains relatively low, while previous studies on the effects of investment knowledge, motivation, and minimum investment capital on investment interest have produced inconsistent findings. This study aimed to analyze the effects of investment knowledge, motivation, and minimum investment capital on students’ interest in investing in the capital market at Institut Teknologi Bisnis AAS Indonesia. The study employed a quantitative approach involving 89 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed through partial hypothesis testing. The results showed that investment knowledge had no significant effect on students’ investment interest, with a significance value of 0.912 > 0.05 and a t-value of −0.111 < the critical t-value of 1.988. In contrast, motivation had a positive and significant effect on investment interest, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value of 6.725 > the critical t-value of 1.988. Minimum investment capital also had a positive and significant effect on students’ investment interest, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05 and a t-value of 7.888 > the critical t-value of 1.988. These findings confirm that motivation and capital affordability are the main factors encouraging students’ interest in investing, whereas investment knowledge that remains theoretical has not significantly increased their investment interest. This study implies the need to strengthen more practical investment education in higher education institutions and to provide programs that can enhance students’ motivation and practical experience in investing in the capital market.

Abstract

Instructional media play an important role in helping elementary school students understand abstract concepts through concrete and contextual learning experiences. However, instruction on needs and wants remains dominated by lecture methods and textbook use, resulting in low student engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes. This study aims to develop KARPERA (Budget Planning Cards) instructional media and analyze its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving the learning outcomes of fourth-grade elementary school students. The study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which comprises the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects were fourth-grade students at SDN Bandar Lor 3, Kediri City. Data were collected through interviews, observations, documentation, validation questionnaires, response questionnaires, and learning outcome tests. The findings indicate that KARPERA media met the validity criteria based on expert assessments, was practical based on teacher and student responses, and was effective in improving learning outcomes on the topic of needs and wants. This study concludes that KARPERA media is suitable for use as an innovative instructional medium that supports contextual learning. These findings provide a practical contribution for teachers in delivering more active and concrete learning and support the development of financial literacy among elementary school students from an early age.

Abstract

Digital literacy and critical thinking skills are essential competencies that students need to possess in addressing twenty-first-century learning. Although the relationship between these two competencies has been widely examined, research specifically analyzing the relationship between digital literacy and students’ critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at vocational high schools remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between digital literacy and students’ critical thinking skills in PAI learning at SMKN 3 Payakumbuh. The study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational survey design involving 57 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a digital literacy questionnaire and a critical thinking skills test that met the validity and reliability criteria. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, prerequisite tests, Pearson Product-Moment correlation, and the coefficient of determination with the assistance of IBM SPSS Statistics. The results showed a positive, very strong, and significant relationship between students’ digital literacy and critical thinking skills (r = 0.988; p < 0.05), with a coefficient of determination of 97.7%. These findings indicate that the higher students’ digital literacy, the higher their critical thinking skills in PAI learning. This study confirms that strengthening digital literacy is an important aspect of supporting the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills. Theoretically, these findings extend the literature on the relationship between digital literacy and critical thinking in the context of PAI learning, while practically, the results can serve as a basis for schools and PAI teachers to integrate digital literacy activities into technology-based learning processes.
