Abstract

This study is grounded in the importance of archives as legal and administrative instruments that safeguard the integrity of governmental processes, as well as in the challenges of archival digitization that demand archivists’ professionalism, particularly in state audit institutions such as the Audit Board of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI). The study aimed to analyze the role of archivists in enhancing accountability and transparency in correspondence management at BPK RI Representative Office of Bali Province. Using a descriptive qualitative method through interviews, observations, and document studies, this research examined the implementation of regulation-based archival and correspondence management, particularly through the use of the JASMIN application, Tata Naskah Dinas, Kode Klasifikasi Arsip, and Jadwal Retensi Arsip. The findings showed that archivists hold a strategic role as controllers of correspondence flows, guardians of audit document integrity, and mediators between public information disclosure and the protection of sensitive data. Digitization through JASMIN strengthened document traceability and security; however, the limited number of archivists remains a major obstacle to consistent archival management in each work unit. The study recommends increasing archivist human resources, providing continuous training, and strengthening inter-unit coordination as strategic measures to achieve more accountable, transparent, and sustainable archival governance within BPK RI Representative Office of Bali Province.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning at the senior high school level is still dominated by conventional, memorization-oriented methods, which are suboptimal for fostering students’ critical thinking skills, even though 21st-century competency demands emphasise more active, participatory, and reflective learning. This study aimed to develop a Critical Thinking-based Small Group Discussion strategy for students using the 4D (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) development model. The research subjects were 25 eleventh-grade students of SMAN 2 Padang Panjang. The development procedure comprised: the Define stage through needs analysis and analysis of student characteristics; the Design stage through designing a Critical Thinking-based Small Group Discussion strategy; the Develop stage through validation by strategy experts, subject-matter experts, and instructional design experts; and the Disseminate stage through implementing the strategy in PAI learning. The research instruments consisted of expert validation questionnaires, teacher response questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. The results showed that the developed strategy was rated as very feasible by experts with an average score of 88.3%, obtained 100% positive responses from teachers, and received 78% positive responses from students. These findings indicate that the Critical Thinking-based Small Group Discussion strategy developed using the 4D model is feasible to be used as an alternative PAI learning strategy to support the enhancement of students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The proliferation of digital platforms and social media amid rapid technological transformation is profoundly reshaping students’ psychological dynamics, including emotional regulation, learning motivation, self-concept, and social interactions, thereby generating both opportunities and risks for schooling. This qualitative study synthesizes findings from a systematic literature review and case studies from Indonesian secondary schools to examine teachers’ roles in mitigating digital-era psychological risks while simultaneously leveraging digital affordances. The analysis integrates empirical evidence on social media’s dual impact, showing that positive effects include enhanced access to knowledge and the stimulation of fine-motor creativity, whereas risks encompass heightened anxiety, fear of missing out (FOMO), addictive usage patterns, and reduced gross motor activity. Across the reviewed studies and cases, teachers emerge as pivotal facilitators who apply educational psychology principles, such as cooperative learning, emotion regulation training, and constructive feedback to strengthen students’ resilience, with collaborative interventions involving counselor–parent partnerships contributing to the reduction of emotional distress. Strengthening digital literacy, regulating screen time, and designing balanced learning environments are identified as essential conditions for sustaining students’ psychological well-being. The study concludes that targeted teacher training in digital emotional intelligence and culturally adaptive pedagogical strategies, particularly within Islamic education contexts, is crucial for supporting holistic student development in increasingly hyper-connected educational ecosystems.

Abstract

The effectiveness of English curriculum innovation in vocational higher education is largely determined by its alignment with students’ academic and workplace needs, yet empirical studies in Indonesian polytechnic contexts remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the role of needs analysis as the basis for developing the English curriculum for students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Padang. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, involving Mechanical Engineering students and English lecturers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through curriculum document analysis, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews, and then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings show that students require English language competencies oriented toward the comprehension of technical texts, workplace communication, interpretation of mechanical documents, and basic technical writing, whereas the existing curriculum is still dominated by general English with limited integration of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) components. These findings affirm that systematic needs analysis is a crucial prerequisite for innovating vocational English curricula and provide practical implications for curriculum developers to design learning that is more contextual, relevant, and aligned with the demands of the Mechanical Engineering discipline and the world of work.

Abstract

The Civics course in higher education plays a strategic role in developing students’ participatory competencies as citizens, particularly amid the complex social realities of peri-urban areas; however, teaching practices often remain confined to normative approaches that insufficiently accommodate students’ concrete experiences. This study aimed to analyze the influence of using reflective portfolios as an assessment component on the development of students’ participatory competencies in the Civics course at Universitas Pradita during the second semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a limited Classroom Action Research design involving 21 students divided into three groups. Data were collected through documentation of students’ reflective portfolios and structured interviews, then analyzed through processes of data reduction, categorization, and interpretation based on the framework of civic knowledge, civic skills, and civic disposition. The findings show that reflective portfolios are effective in strengthening students’ conceptual understanding of citizenship issues, developing participatory skills and public communication, and fostering empathy and participatory awareness as citizens. The study concludes that reflective portfolios function not only as assessment instruments but also as transformative learning media that are relevant to students’ social context, thereby underscoring the importance of integrating reflective assessment into Civics learning to support character education and the formation of active and responsible citizens.

Abstract

The contemporary landscape of Islamic education necessitates innovative pedagogical approaches to holistically nurture students' interests and talents, moving beyond traditional academic paradigms. This research investigates the strategic integration of Angklung music learning within Islamic educational management frameworks as a potent mechanism for talent development and interest cultivation. Drawing upon a comprehensive review of extant literature, the study identifies a significant gap in the specific exploration of how Islamic educational institutions can effectively leverage cultural arts, such as Angklung, to achieve broader educational objectives, particularly in fostering non-academic proficiencies. Employing a qualitative, descriptive literature review design, this study synthesizes insights from 45 peer-reviewed articles focusing on Islamic leadership, educational management, talent development, and pedagogical innovation. The findings reveal that effective Islamic education management, characterized by ethical leadership, a commitment to quality assurance, and an adaptive curriculum, can create an enabling environment for the successful implementation of Angklung learning. Such integration not only enhances musical aptitude but also cultivates critical soft skills, cultural appreciation, and a sense of collective identity, all aligned with Islamic values. The study concludes that Angklung music learning offers a unique, culturally rich, and pedagogically sound avenue for developing diverse student talents within an Islamic educational context. This contributes to theoretical frameworks concerning holistic Islamic education and provides practical implications for educators and policymakers to design inclusive and talent-centric curricula. Future research is encouraged to empirically validate these findings through longitudinal studies and comparative analyses across various Islamic educational settings.

Abstract

Hearing impairment in Indonesian adolescents poses significant developmental challenges, including socio-emotional difficulties and risks of cognitive delay, which are exacerbated by limited early interventions and cultural stigma. This qualitative single-case study examines the lived experiences of Suci Cahaya, a 17-year-old female high school student with hearing impairment, with a specific focus on family parenting dynamics, socio-emotional challenges, and religious coping strategies within an Islamic context. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews, and credibility was strengthened through triangulation of information across sources and perspectives. The findings show a marked shift from Suci’s outgoing childhood to adolescent introversion, precipitated by bullying and communication barriers, yet concurrently buffered by collaborative parenting—her mother’s patient, repetitive guidance and her father’s active advocacy—alongside supportive community engagement. Religious values, including sincerity, sabar (patience), and viewing disability as amanah (divine trust), fortified family resilience, reframed caregiving as spiritual worship, and helped reduce psychological distress. The study concludes that culturally embedded, faith-informed parenting and community support can foster adaptive coping and resilience among adolescents with hearing impairment in Indonesian Muslim families, offering critical insights for the design of inclusive education, family-centered interventions, and faith-integrated policies.
