Abstract

The existence of ecology in Indonesia is one of the discourses that should be studied and language in the public or private sphere. The essence and existence of ecology in Indonesia is a crucial and important ultimate value in the discourse of metaphysical philosophy. The focus of this research discourse is to confront Heidegger's thoughts related to human existential relations (dasein) which cannot be separated from the surrounding natural environment. Uncovering one aspect of the value of harmonization and order, namely relations with fellow humans, and nature and other creations on this Indonesian earth. By looking at ecological realities like this, humans (Dasein) must see the overall influence and impact that will occur in the next twenty-five years. 1) Humans (Dasein) wake up from their deep sleep over the shackles of "pleasure and interests". 2) By uncovering the value of essence-existence-ecology in Indonesia and part of the "primacy of humans and other creations" consistently Heidegger's thought will lead to a great awareness and responsibility towards this nature. 3) Humans (dasein) who are sensitive to nature are obtained from a good thinking paradigm, a good thinking paradigm leads to good enactment; good enactment will bring humans and other creations to harmony, beauty and good order.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to elaborate on a perspective regarding gender and the reform of Islam initiated by Asma Barlas. Barlas's argument in the context of gender thinking within the Islamic reformation stems from the reality that women, in 'Arab' society, often face discrimination and marginalization. For instance, historically, Arab culture suppressed views of injustice toward the position of women. Before the advent of Islam, women in Arab society experienced discrimination and unfair treatment. During the Jahiliyah era, women were considered beings of very low status and had no role in their own lives. Their authority was held by their father and brothers before marriage, and by their husbands after marriage. Women often received inhumane treatment during that time. This study concludes that in the context of Islamic reform, Barlas's gender thinking provides a foundation for the Islamic feminist movement. By detailing the history of oppression against women and offering a more inclusive interpretation of Islamic teachings, Barlas inspires Muslim women to take an active role in advocating for their rights. Her thoughts create momentum for change in how society perceives and values women's contributions in various aspects of life.

Abstract

Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) stated that humans are destined to act freely. Plautus in 195 BC said that man is a wolf to his fellow man, in other words, humans tend to be bound to will evil rather than otherwise. Philosophers are divided into more optimistic or more pessimistic sides in viewing humans. Swami Vivekananda and Arthur Schopenhauer both have a pessimistic view of life and humanity. This article focuses on examining the ideas of Schopenhauer and Vivekananda regarding the bondage of humans. Finally, the author wants to know the ethical implications that arise if starting from their corresponding views? This research is qualitative, explanatory, and a literature study. Arthur Schopenhauer sees life as endless suffering and this stems from the irrational noumena of the Will and life as a comedy and tragedy. He himself also acknowledged being inspired by Hindu Vedanta teachings. Vivekananda, as an important figure who brought Vedanta to Europe, once criticized Schopenhauer regarding the nature of the ‘will.’ However, Vivekananda also had pessimism regarding humans with the existence of maya, human knowledge and ‘manas’ being bound, ‘karma’, ‘samsara’, ‘klesa’, and the trinity of ignorance, will, and inequality. Therefore, even though they are not exactly the same in terms of the nature of human will, Vivekananda and Schopenhauer both emphasize the idea of human bondage. The ethical implication is that humans need consciousness to resolve their own moral struggles or the determination of awareness from something outside themselves.

Abstract

Religious leaders in Desa Duda Utara face challenges in balancing traditional heritage and advancing technology, especially within the context of Society 5.0. This article discusses the role of religious leaders as mediators in efforts to maintain the principle of ataraxia amidst changing times. Based on field observations and interviews, it was found that religious leaders act as bridges between religious traditions and everyday practices, while also serving as figures who uphold social order through guidance and moral advice. However, in facing the modern era with rapid social changes, these leaders often become entrenched in rigid traditional routines. This situation presents a significant challenge, particularly in adapting their teaching methods and leadership to meet the expectations of the younger generation, who prefer more interactive and relevant approaches. Additionally, this study highlights that the lack of technological integration is one of the factors limiting the effectiveness of religious leaders in responding to modern societal needs. Traditional teaching methods now need to be updated by leveraging digital media. It is essential for religious leaders to develop digital literacy skills and adopt more inclusive teaching methods. Collaborating with educational institutions and other organizations is also a strategic step in bridging the gap between traditional teachings and modern dynamics. By making these adaptations, religious leaders in Desa Duda Utara can maintain their central role, strengthen social bonds, and preserve their relevance in an ever-evolving society.

Abstract

The Lontar Bhagawan Anggastya Prana is a sacred manuscript with a Shaivist perspective, wherein Lord Shiva holds the highest position as the source of human creation (Bhuwana Alit), referred to as Sang Hyang Siwatman. This Lontar possesses unique characteristics compared to other Lontar manuscripts in Bali. It describes the process of human creation and the placement of sacred syllables on the human body, along with the Ista Dewata that governs them, as a teaching aimed at achieving liberation (Moksha). Therefore, it is essential to explore the dualistic concept of humanity according to Tutur Bhagawan Anggastya Prana. This study employs qualitative research, with the primary source being the Lontar Bhagawan Anggastya Prana from the collection of the Bali Cultural Documentation Center. The dualism of humanity in Tutur Bhagawan Anggastya Prana delves into the core of spiritual teachings concerning the dual nature or duality within humans. In this context, human dualism is depicted as two main aspects that form human existence: the physical aspect (stula sarira) and the spiritual or soul aspect (suksma sarira). Based on the analysis of the Lontar Tutur Bhagawan Anggastya Prana, it is revealed that the atman is a manifestation of Sang Hyang Śiwatma. Humans are imbued with Dewa, Kala, and Atma. The elements of the body are blessings from the gods, ultimately uniting into a holistic entity, the body. The sacred syllables in the human body are manifestations of Sang Hyang Widhi.

Abstract

Upanisad, one of the sacred literatures in Hindu philosophy that contains various natural metaphors to explain the concept of unthinkable and transcendental divinity. These natural metaphors become a bridge that allows humans to understand God as Satyam (truth), Sivam (goodness), and Sundaram (beauty). This research is motivated by an in-depth exploration of the Upanisad texts that describe the dimensions of divinity using elements of the universe, which dimensions are not only spiritual but also relevant in human life. The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze natural metaphors in the Upanisad by understanding how these metaphors describe the nature of God in three main aspects: truth, goodness, and beauty. This study uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutic approach to interpret the Upanisad texts contextually, accompanied by a philosophical analysis to understand the implications of natural symbolism on the concept of divinity. The results of the study show that natural metaphors are used to describe the elements of eternity, purity, and universality of God. The metaphor of nature in the Upanisad is not only an aesthetic expression, but also a profound philosophical medium to describe God as Satyam, Sivam, Sundaram. This symbolism strengthens the understanding that God is not only present in the spiritual dimension but also manifested in the harmony of the universe, so that it can inspire humans to live a life in harmony with divine principles. In addition, the results of this study are expected to be a reference for cross-disciplinary studies between philosophy, theology, and spiritual ecology, especially in linking the relationship between humans, nature, and God.

Abstract

The focus of this paper discusses the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) phenomenon, which is a condition of anxiety when users miss the latest information, do not update other people's activities in their absence. These conditions can encourage users to experience internet addiction and spend a lot of time on the internet, in order to get a feeling of being involved and joining. Dasein condition that dissolves in everyday life in a digital world like that will be reflected in Martin Heidegger's thoughts about technology and human relations with it, specifically Gestell and Gelassenheit. The purpose of this paper is to offer a metaphysically based attitude (so it's not just a pragmatic attitude), when dealing with gadgets or mobile phones, Gelassenheit. The method used in this paper is qualitative, with a phenomenological approach. In this article, I also take a lot of inspiration from F. Budi Hardiman's book Aku Klik Maka Aku Ada. The findings in this paper, Heidegger's thoughts about technology are still relevant today. It must be admitted that technology is indeed very beneficial for human life, it is also a revelation of history, users are engrossed and busy thinking calculatively and at home in the digital world. So Heidegger's offer of the Gelassenheit attitude, namely relaxing towards tools provides important and deep inspiration for users.

Abstract

The focus of this study is to examine the phenomenon of religious radicalism in Indonesia, which has recently become a trigger for the emergence of destructive, anarchic, and racist attitudes in the communal way of life. The method employed in this study utilizes a qualitative approach dialogued with Jurgen Habermas's critical hermeneutical analysis. Critical hermeneutics, as applied by Habermas, offers a unique perspective in dissecting cases related to socio-political and religious issues grounded in authority and tradition. The findings of this study reveal that Habermas's critical hermeneutics unveils hidden ideological moments behind authority and tradition through reflection and evaluation. This becomes possible through an inclusive attitude in constructing communication with critical and rational awareness. With this awareness, individuals are led to an understanding free from dominant, repressive, and manipulative power. This understanding not only touches the cognitive dimension but also extends to the realm of practice. The contribution of this study lies in presenting a critical and rational approach to address various forms of social disintegration and dehumanizing practices, especially in Indonesia, known as a heterogeneous nation.

Abstract

The research focuses on exploring the meaning of Emanuel Levinas' ethics of face in illuminating the immorality that occurs in war. For Levinas, humans are "being-for-the-other"; beings who exist in the world for others. Levinas proposes how "being-for-the-other" always has the nature to be responsible for the presence of other humans with sorge (care). On the other hand, humans often become power-hungry "animals", which can only be obtained if they conquer others, especially in this case, is war. Humans are increasingly showing a life of utter disregard for other human beings by constantly waging war. Therefore, exploring facial ethics and humanitarian responsibility according to Levinas' thought will find intersubjective attitudes that humans can internalize to realize other humans as existences who also have experiences and feelings, are valuable and precious. The method used in the research is qualitative method through literature study. This research found that face ethics gives intersubjective understanding to every human being. The contribution of this research is to understand that war is immorality; which is the destructiveness of humanity that violates the principles of intersubjectivity and humanitarian responsibility.

Abstract

In Indonesia, the use of Bahasa Indonesia by all its citizens is an efficient means of communication to convey messages. The language is dominant in daily activities, which is especially important in an era of scientific and technological advancement that emphasizes specialization, because studying the views of scientists can help humans realize their limitations and avoid intellectual arrogance. Philosophy has a role as a carrier of values for society, focusing on learning that is relevant to everyday life. As part of value education, philosophy can be a tool to nurture habits of thought and reflect on the values of life. However, the existence of the Indonesian language as the glue of the nation seems to be neglected due to the abundance of new vocabulary, including abbreviations and foreign terms. To philosophize is to explore deeply and earnestly. It is knowledge that reaches the root of everything according to ratio. It summarizes reality as a whole, especially human existence and purpose. Philosophy of science aims to investigate the various sources of knowledge, from theories of language acquisition based on views such as behaviorism or cognitivism, which basically stem from philosophical statements that were once delivered by prominent philosophers.
