Abstract

Preventive health efforts are actions taken to avoid potential health problems that may affect ourselves or others in the future. A free health check-up was conducted in the LLDIKTI XI South Kalimantan area in Banjarmasin with the aim of raising awareness and understanding of the importance of maintaining health to prevent disease. The event began with a group exercise session, followed by free medical check-ups and counseling provided by pharmacists. A total of 48 participants took part in this activity, gaining insights into healthy lifestyles and the importance of regular health check-ups at health service centers. The results of the examinations served as a reference and reminder for participants to monitor their health regularly and improve their lifestyle habits. This initiative is expected to increase participants' awareness of the importance of disease prevention over treatment, with regular health check-ups serving as the first step to minimize future health risks.

Abstract

Diarrhea remains one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality among children, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. The high incidence rate of diarrhea and the lack of public knowledge became the background for this community service activity. The purpose was to increase public understanding of diarrheal disease as well as the proper use and storage of medications. The method used was a direct educational counseling session held on May 15, 2025, for residents of RT 04 RW 04, Penggilingan Subdistrict, East Jakarta, at MD “Smarts” Primary Clinic. This activity involved 20 participants and included a pre-test, educational material delivery by lecturers and students, an interactive discussion session, and a post-test. Evaluation showed an increase in understanding, particularly on the points that diarrhea can cause death (13% increase) and dehydration (7% increase). These results indicate that the counseling was effective in improving community knowledge regarding diarrhea prevention and treatment. It is expected that similar programs can be carried out continuously to reduce the incidence of diarrhea in the community.

Abstract

The DAGUSIBU (Obtain, Use, Store, and Dispose) training program on drug management was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Tulung Agung to improve the knowledge and skills of drug handlers and health workers. This study employed a pre–post test design with an intervention consisting of DAGUSIBU training involving 120 participants. Knowledge was assessed using written tests administered before and after the training, and data were analyzed statistically. The results demonstrated a significant improvement (p < 0.05) in participants’ knowledge scores, increasing from an average of 38.67 before training to 75.25 after training. These findings indicate that DAGUSIBU training is effective in enhancing drug management knowledge. This training model has the potential to be applied in Islamic boarding schools and other boarding-based educational institutions to improve the quality of drug management sustainably.

Abstract

An elderly person is someone who has reached the age of 60 years and above. From a health perspective, the elderly will experience an aging process characterized by a decrease in physical endurance, making them susceptible to disease. Based on the problem of the elderly in Sidoarjo not understanding healthy lifestyles, how to manage medication has the potential to decrease the quality of life of the elderly. Therefore, it is necessary to empower the elderly through training to improve the quality of life of the elderly. This community service activity targets the category of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely SDGs 3, which is ensuring a healthy life and improving the welfare of all residents of all ages. The empowerment activity was carried out at the RW.07 Hall, Magersari Village, Sidoarjo District on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Attended by 90 elderly people. The activity began with morning exercise, providing material and demonstrations on making herbal medicine, providing material on infectious diseases (TB) and degenerative diseases (DM and hypertension), providing material on how to properly manage medication and ending with a post-test. The results of the activity showed that the elderly were very enthusiastic about participating in the entire series of activities. The increase in elderly knowledge was seen from the increase in post-test scores. The paired-sample statistical test results yielded a P-value of 0.000. This indicates a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test results. Participants' understanding improved both before and after the educational material was provided.

Abstract

The challenges faced in current health development are changes in disease patterns from infectious diseases to non-infectious diseases, one of which is diabetes mellitus. Preventive efforts that can be made include conducting early screening examinations for diabetes mellitus which play an important role in preventing chronic complications and allowing sufferers to receive appropriate and fast treatment. Satisfaction can influence community loyalty which will form word of mouth, thus attracting more people to undergo examinations. This community service activity aims to increase community satisfaction with cadre services in conducting early screening for diabetes mellitus. The method of this activity is in the form of mentoring for early screening examinations for DM carried out by cadres with a target community of 61 people. Community satisfaction was measured using a questionnaire of 13 statements, then categorized for the level of satisfaction. The results of the mentoring showed that the community was satisfied with the cadre services with an average score of 73.90%.

Abstract

Talango District in Sumenep Regency faces a significant public health challenge, recording the highest leprosy prevalence in the region with 17 active cases in 2024. This issue is deeply rooted in patient non-adherence to long-term medication and the limited clinical capacity of newly appointed village health volunteers. To address this gap, this community service initiative empowered local volunteers through an intensive training program centered on the "Active Patient Method" and "Social Support" framework. The intervention utilized interactive educational sessions and clinical discussions led by a multidisciplinary team of dermatologists, public health experts, and clinical pharmacists. We evaluated the program’s impact by measuring changes in participant knowledge using a validated pre-test and post-test instrument. Statistical analysis via the Wilcoxon signed-ranks test yielded a p-value of 0.000, demonstrating a substantial and significant increase in the volunteers' understanding of leprosy management. Furthermore, the program received high appreciation from the community, with 79% of participants commending the material quality and the experts' delivery. These findings suggest that fostering social support through volunteer empowerment effectively bridges the gap in leprosy care and medication management. This initiative provides a sustainable model for community-based health interventions in remote island areas, ultimately aiming to break the chain of leprosy transmission through compassionate and informed local leadership.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a noncommunicable disease (NCD) with a steadily rising prevalence in Indonesia, influenced by genetic factors, lifestyle, and the public’s level of knowledge. The objective of this Community Service (PkM) activity is to improve adolescents’ knowledge of DM, its complications, and its treatment through the use of flashcards. The activity was conducted at SMK Al Muhadjirin 2 Bekasi on May 5, 2025, involving 26 tenth-grade students as participants. Education was provided through a workshop using flashcards, while evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to determine differences in knowledge levels before and  after the intervention. The results showed a significance value of 0.072, indicating no significant difference in knowledge between the pre-test and post-test results. Although some participants showed an increase in scores, these changes were not statistically significant. Participant fatigue prior to the activity and a lack of seriousness in completing the questionnaires are suspected to have influenced the results. The conclusion is that the educational activity using flashcards was not effective in significantly improving students’ knowledge. Therefore, more  interactive educational strategies and approaches tailored to the characteristics of  the students are needed for future activities.
