Abstract

Adolescents are a vulnerable group to nutritional problems due to increased nutritional needs during growth. The 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) reported a prevalence of undernutrition at 12.8% and overweight at 16% among Indonesian adolescents. Similar conditions were also found in West Java and Tasikmalaya City, indicating the need for early detection and nutrition education. This community service activity aimed to assess the nutritional status of adolescents at Learning Center X in Tasikmalaya City and to improve their knowledge of healthy eating patterns. The methods included anthropometric measurements (weight, height, body mass index, and mid-upper arm circumference) and nutrition education through interactive counseling using QR-based media. The target participants were 10 adolescents aged 13–18 years enrolled at the learning center. The results showed that 30% of adolescents were undernourished based on BMI-for-age, while 50% experienced Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) based on MUAC. Nutrition education was conducted after the screening, and participants demonstrated enthusiasm and improved understanding of the importance of breakfast, balanced diet, and stunting prevention. This activity highlights that simple screening can identify adolescents at risk of undernutrition and serves as an effective medium for nutrition education. In conclusion, nutritional problems among adolescents remain high and may impact long-term health. It is recommended to conduct regular monitoring through adolescent health posts or school health units and strengthen collaboration with schools and primary health centers to ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

Oral health among the elderly is often neglected, while chemical-based oral care products may pose potential risks to health and the environment. Tea waste, which is usually discarded, contains antibacterial properties that can help maintain oral hygiene. This program aimed to educate the elderly about the benefits of tea waste and provide training on its utilization as an environmentally friendly alternative for oral health care. The activity employed counseling and hands-on training, targeting 50 elderly participants at Sekolah Lansia Mekarjaya Bahagia, Depok, West Java, on July 12, 2025. The session included material on tooth structure, causes and prevention of dental caries, periodontal tissue damage, oral care practices (proper tooth brushing and dental flossing), and the benefits of natural materials, particularly tea waste. The program continued with practical training in making a mouthwash using tea waste as a sustainable oral care option. The activity was successfully conducted with high participant engagement. Evaluation results showed an increase in knowledge and positive attitudes toward oral health maintenance and the use of tea waste as a mouthwash before and after the training. In conclusion, this program effectively improved awareness among the elderly regarding natural and eco-friendly oral care practices. It is recommended to continue structured community engagement and utilize social media platforms to reach a wider audience.

Abstract

Stunting in Indonesia remains a chronic nutritional problem among children that requires immediate attention. Various efforts have been made to address this issue. The prevalence of stunting among children in the Baduy area remains high, one of the contributing factors being inadequate nutritional intake, particularly from snacks sold in the community. Baduy street vendors play a crucial role in selling these snacks. This community service program (PKM), conducted from September to November 2025, targeted the local vendors as participants. The educational intervention on JAZANDUY (Nutritious Snacks for Baduy Children) produced positive and statistically significant results (p<0.005). The program also generated several outputs, including a recipe booklet, video documentation, scientific publication, and eco-friendly packaging design. This initiative effectively improved the knowledge and skills of Baduy vendors in providing healthy snacks, potentially contributing to reducing stunting rates and strengthening the local economy.

Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB) is a main foundation to achieve an optimal level of public health through the adoption of healthy lifestyle practices in daily life. In indigenous communities such as the Baduy, the implementation of CHLB faces challenges, particularly related to culture, beliefs, and access to healthcare services. This community service program provided education and training for women’s groups in the Baduy community to improve the application of household CHLB and enhance family economic resilience. The target participants were Baduy women organized in the “BERSERI” (Clean, Healthy, Independent) cadre group. Health education on household CHLB in this program had a statistically significant impact on increasing participants’ knowledge (p<0.05). Furthermore, participants were trained in entrepreneurship and the development of Baduy woven products, resulting in agenda books and purses. The development of Baduy weaving products contributes to improving community welfare through entrepreneurship and economic empowerment in the Baduy community.

Abstract

CHLB (Clean and Healthy Living Behavior) enables the Islamic boarding school community to independently and actively participate in disease prevention and improve health and hygiene within the school environment. Observations at this Islamic boarding school revealed that approximately 70% of female students have not yet properly implemented CHLB.   For example, still reusing dirty clothes, not washing their hair at least once every 2 days, not combing their hair diligently, not washing their hands with soap and running water after using the toilet, still hanging dirty clothes, and brushing their teeth sometimes only once a day. Based on the results of interviews with students, it was also obtained information that some students had suffered from scabies, tinea versicolor, itchy skin, insect bites such as tomcats, and head lice. This activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of students about the importance of CHLB and its application in daily activities. The method used is education aimed at students who live at the Harun Asy-Syafi'i Putri Tahfidz Al-Qur'an Islamic Boarding School using the lecture method. The activity went smoothly. Students who participated in CHLB education activities at the Islamic boarding school had increased knowledge from before the education was held. Students already understand the importance of implementing CHLB in daily life to prevent disease. Every student is expected to consistently practice CHLB  at the Islamic boarding school. Furthermore, both students and Islamic boarding school administrators can always seek information to increase their knowledge of CHLB.

Abstract

Root canal infections and low public awareness regarding oral health care contribute to dental emergencies that may impact systemic health. This community service program aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills in preventing and identifying early signs of dental emergencies caused by root canal infections through health education and basic dental treatment. The activity was conducted by residents of the Specialist Program in Conservative Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University, on June 14, 2025, at GPIB Silo Church, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, involving 75 participants from the men’s and women’s fellowship groups. The methods included interactive counseling using audio-visual media, administration of pre-test and post-test questionnaires, and provision of simple conservative dental treatments. The evaluation results demonstrated a notable increase in participants’ knowledge, as reflected in the rise of the average score from 52.92 in the pre-test to 62.08 in the post-test. Participants also showed increased awareness and proactive attitudes toward oral health maintenance. This program proved that direct educational intervention within the community effectively enhances knowledge and encourages preventive behavior regarding root canal infections. The community service activity successfully improved understanding of dental emergencies and emphasized the importance of preventive measures. It is recommended that similar programs be conducted regularly and expanded to other communities with improved audiovisual facilities to optimize educational outcomes in future implementations.
