Abstract

The family is the first place for children to get an education. Through the parents, the educational process is important values for the development of the child. Children will learn about the values of moral, spiritual, and ethical through parents. These values develop along with growing up of children. Therefore, the pattern of parenting becomes important values in delivering identity of the child to adulthood. The above conditions will occur in intact families but unlike the single parent family. Children who are raised by single parents feared to bring harm to the child's development, or education. Thus, a single parent will struggle to do the maximum care, in order to dispel such concerns.Based on that researchers aim to conduct an analysis of parenting within the nuclear family (single parent). The implication of this study is to determine the pattern of education and guidance to children. This study used a qualitative approach with research subjects a single parent that has school-age children. Based on the analysis of research data which obtained the findings that: (1) single parent education related to parent's responsibilities to children, teaching methods applied in family environment, educational tools used and values education, and (2) parental guidance to children tend to religious guidance, social, academic, career and motivation.

Abstract

English is a foreign language (EFL) for Indonesian students. Therefore, many students still get difficulties to comprehend an English reading text that they read. To overcome the problem, this classroom action research investigated how to improve the students' active participation and their reading comprehension achievement by using Semantic Mapping technique. The research participants were the eighth-grade students at SMPN 8 Jember. Based on the results of the observation and a reading comprehension test, it can be concluded that the implementation of Semantic Mapping technique could improve the eighth-grade students’ achievement in reading comprehension of descriptive text. The research results also showed that the students became more fun and more actively participated both individually and in a group during the teaching and learning process of reading comprehension.

Abstract

The implementation of educational program for all through distance learning is expected to match with the condition of Indonesia’s geography, demography, and culture that vary from one place to another. In terms of the implementation of the nine-year basic education compulsion program, Indonesia has carried out various programs, such as Package A (equal to elementary school) and Package B (equal to open junior high school) programs in many parts of provinces in Indonesia. This ‘open junior high school’ model has even been adopted as ‘open Islamic junior high school’ in other provinces. At the level of tertiary education, there is open university, as stated in the Act on National Education System No. 20 of 2003

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze Mathematics learning on Vocational High School students by using STAD learning model on Trigonometry material. By using acquisition processing skills, students will be able to discover and develop their own facts and concepts as well as growing and developing attitudes and values. This research used a classroom action research (CAR) design. Data collection tools and methods used in this research were tests, observations, and questionnaires. The results showed that the average score of students in cycle 1 was 69.84 with the lowest score as much as 61 and the highest score was 79. The limit for learning completeness was 65, the number of students who scored 65 as many as 27 students, which means 81.82% out of 32 students had a value in the top level of mastery of a given concept, or more than 80%. The average score of students in cycle 2 was 76.15 with the lowest score as much as 68 and the highest was 87. The limit for learning completeness was 65, the number of students who scored 65 as many as 32 students, which means that 100% of the students had grades at the top level of mastery of the given concept, or more than 80%. From cycle II, it can be said that the learning process has succeeded in achieving what has been targeted. Thus, it can be said that the learning process has met what was expected, namely an increase in the quality of learning as indicated by an increase in the quality of students’ achievement as a whole

Abstract

Mathematics learning in this era requires teachers to be able to develop learning models that pay attention to the characteristics of students, so it is important for teachers to know the learning trajectory. This study aims to describe the conception of learning trajectory and hypothetical learning trajectory, as well as presenting the design of hypothetical learning trajectories in mathematics learning. Based on the theories studied, it is concluded that a hypothetical learning trajectory is a learning design in the form of allegations on student learning activities based on initial understanding and characteristics of students to achieve higher understanding. HLT has three main components namely learning objectives, learning activities, and hypotheses of the learning process. HLT is used by teachers as a guide to predict and prepare learning flow designs that are appropriate to the stages of student thinking and can improve student learning outcomes. The findings of previous studies show that to design HLT in mathematics learning, educators need to consider student obstacle learning, a hierarchy of material, and learning support capacity, so that learning activities to be hypothesized are built based on these things.

Abstract

This paper aims to share idea about the use of critical reading to stimulate students’ critical thinking and reading comprehension whether it is for academic purpose or reading for enjoyment, particularly in the foreign language learning. The employment of critical reading will automatically involve students’ high-order thinking Skills. Thus, reading strategies is needed as a way to engage students’ active learning during teaching and learning in a reading class. Later on, the beneficial employment of critical reading can be seen from the students’ writing activity of an article critique or a literature review. Student-centered learning is chosen as the teaching method during the reading class. It is believed that students are willingly to get involve, to be active and to be communicative learners. This article will review some previous studies and theory on the employment of critical reading strategy in promoting students’ high order thinking Skills and its effect toward reading comprehension.

Abstract

The learning process germane to the national events sub-theme surrounding the proclamation of independence requires a media that is able to become a means of delivering abstract material to be concrete not just images available in textbooks, for which more innovative media is needed, namely learning media in comic form. This study aims to produce learning media in the form of comics that can foster the character of discipline, using the R & D model from Borg and Gall (2003) which consists of 7 stages. It aims to describe the process, produce products and disseminate products. The aspects of media quality studied are validity and effectiveness. The media developed is evaluated by material experts and media to determine its feasibility. The subjects of this study were all VA students of SDN Kebonsari 03 Jember, which included 35 students as subjects of the small-scope trial. 25 VA students from Public Elementary School Kebonsari 04 Jember were involved in a control class, and 26 VB students were involved in the experimental class. The data collection in this study was done through observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and validation. The results of data analysis showed that the media was proven valid with the validator percentage validating 80.3%. The percentage of student learning outcomes was 82.35%. The average results of student affective assessment for disciplinary characters are 95%. From these results, it can be concluded that comic media has fulfilled the quality aspects of the media and can be used as a medium of learning in schools. In the field trial, the results obtained for the control class average pretest score was 75.2 and the average posttest score was 82.5. The experimental class obtained an average score of 78.1 in pretest and 90.2 in the posttest score. Learning with comic media developed is proven effective to foster the character of discipline.

This article describes BAIF characteristics (physics textbook) to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The aim of the research is how BAIF characteristics to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The aim of research can be described as two problems. First, is BAIF consist of the example of application refer to science literacy ability? Second, how is the BAIF writing pattern for junior high school students? Type of this research is R & D (Research and Development). The research is started by collecting qualitative data, and then arranging draft of BAIF until to be BAIF which ready to validation. The subject of research is BAIF to train science literacy ability through VGM representation of junior high school students. The respondents of research are students of an 8th-grade junior high school in the even semester. The technique of collecting data is observation, questionnaire, test, and document.
