Abstract

RT 004/RW 006 is one of the residential areas located in Karunrung Urban Village, Rappocini District, Makassar City. This area has a relatively high population density, with most of the land consisting of densely populated housing. The main problem faced by the local community is flooding that frequently occurs during the rainy season. This condition is caused by the existing drainage system, which is no longer able to accommodate the large volume of water during heavy rainfall. Water that should flow smoothly into the main canal slows down, resulting in inundation within the neighborhood. In response to this situation, residents of RT 004/RW 006 collectively took the initiative to construct a new drainage channel. This decision arose from a shared awareness that flooding not only causes material losses but also affects health, comfort, and daily activities. The newly planned drainage channel is designed to be deeper and larger compared to the old one. Its purpose is to allow rainwater to flow more quickly and efficiently into the main canal, thereby reducing the risk of flooding in the area. The construction process involved the active participation of all residents in RT 004/RW 006. Community involvement played an important role, whether in the form of labor, time, or material support. This spirit of cooperation not only demonstrated concern for the environment but also strengthened solidarity and social responsibility in addressing common problems. With the new drainage channel in place, the community hopes that flooding, which has long been a recurring annual issue, can be significantly minimized. Furthermore, residents are committed to maintaining the drainage system to ensure it functions optimally. This includes regular cleaning to prevent blockages and ensuring that the water flow remains unobstructed. Thus, the construction of this drainage system is not merely a technical solution, but also a concrete manifestation of the community’s awareness in preserving the environment and improving collective quality of life.

Abstract

Narrow alleys in urban areas are often neglected despite their potential to be developed into productive economic spaces. This community service program aims to transform narrow alleys in Duren Tiga Village into UMKM centers implementing the concept of "go Global, go Digital, go Green" to increase beneficiary income and expand multi-stakeholder cooperation. The method used is a participatory approach based on social mapping, Café Mini Forest infrastructure development, capacity building through business skills training, product innovation, digital marketing, sanitation-hygiene, halal certification processes, and continuous mentoring. The program results demonstrate successful transformation of narrow alleys into productive community gathering and socializing spaces. Eight out of nine UMKMs successfully obtained halal certification, innovative product diversification based on passion fruit was created, digital marketing strategies were implemented through social media, and participation in the regional PERTIWI Exhibition Dekafy Fest 2025. The program successfully transformed the approach from charitable assistance to sustainable productive empowerment, although it has not yet changed the quality of life of beneficiaries completely and opens opportunities for future program development.

Abstract

This study aims to map the collective identity of the people of Tumbu Village, Karangasem, Bali, using historical approaches, cultural landscape studies, and an analysis of customary rules. The primary data are sourced from 13th-century inscriptions such as the Ruk-ruk, Pasemetan, and Tumbu Puseh Inscriptions, along with awig-awig (local customary laws) that remain actively implemented. The research applies a descriptive-qualitative method through field observations, literature reviews, traditional document interpretation, and participatory interviews with community leaders and local residents. The findings reveal that the collective identity of Tumbu Village is shaped by the integration of historical values, agrarian landscapes, the Hindu-Balinese spiritual system, and a living social structure embedded in customary norms. While modernization has introduced significant changes in architecture and social structures, local communities have managed to adapt culturally without losing their traditional values. Community-based strategies have proven effective in preserving the harmony between cultural heritage and village development. The key outputs of this program include a landscape identity map, a social structure infographic, and a brief guide to customary spatial principles that may serve as a reference for village planning grounded in local wisdom. This study affirms the urgency of preserving collective identity and customary spatial systems as foundational to sustainable development in traditional Balinese villages.

Abstract

The development of information technology demands the availability of reliable, efficient, and secure network infrastructure to support various activities, particularly in the process of developing information systems. One important component that cannot be ignored in technology development is system feasibility testing, where the use of Local Area Networks (LANs) plays an effective supporting tool. Despite their limited coverage, LANs offer several advantages, such as high data transfer speeds, the ability to share resources, and flexibility in system development. However, employees' lack of understanding regarding LAN utilization often presents a barrier to the implementation and testing of system feasibility. This community service activity is designed to improve employees' technological literacy through education on the use of LANs in information system testing. The methods applied include counseling, hands-on training, and interactive discussions to strengthen understanding of basic LAN concepts and their application in test simulations. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge and skills, particularly in understanding the functions, benefits, and steps for implementing LANs in system feasibility testing. Participants were even able to apply the material learned to simple practices, thereby increasing their confidence in implementing it in the work environment. Thus, education related to the use of LAN not only has an impact on increasing technological literacy, but also contributes to the effectiveness of the implementation of information systems in various work sectors.

Abstract

The afternoon tutoring program organized by the students of the Community Service Program (KKN) from Nusa Nipa University in Mbengu Village represents a community engagement effort aimed at improving the quality of primary education in rural areas. The background of this activity lies in the low learning motivation and the limited basic literacy and numeracy skills (reading, writing, and arithmetic) still experienced by many elementary school students, both in lower and upper grades. This condition poses a challenge to the teaching and learning process, thereby requiring innovation and structured academic assistance. The main objective of this program is not only to strengthen students’ academic skills but also to foster motivation, independence, and self-confidence in learning. The implementation method consisted of three stages: preparation, execution, and evaluation. The program was conducted at the Holy Cross Parish of Mauloo on July 6, 12, 23, and 28, 2025, with a frequency of once per week. During the activities, KKN students divided participants into small groups based on their level of ability. Each group received assistance in reading, writing, arithmetic, completing school assignments, and engaging with supplementary materials. These were delivered through interactive approaches such as discussions, question-and-answer sessions, and educational games designed to make learning enjoyable and meaningful. The results demonstrated significant improvements in students’ learning motivation, attendance discipline, active participation, and willingness to ask questions. Overall, the program proved effective in enhancing both the motivation and the quality of learning among elementary school students. Moreover, this activity can serve as a relevant alternative learning strategy that may be applied in rural areas through collaboration between university students, local communities, and schools.

Abstract

Plastic waste pollution has become an increasingly complex environmental challenge, especially in coastal areas and islands such as the Riau Islands Province. South Toapaya Village, located in Bintan Regency, faces serious problems related to waste accumulation, especially plastic, originating from household activities and waste flows from surrounding areas. This situation is exacerbated by a waste management system that is still limited, fragmented, and not yet fully sustainable. This article explores the potential of ecobricks as an innovative community-based approach to address this pressing issue. Ecobrick plastic bottles filled with clean, dry inorganic waste offer a simple yet effective strategy to reduce waste while producing modular building materials. The main focus of this study is the application of ecobricks in the construction of village landmark monuments, which are expected to become symbolic markers of local identity. This approach not only offers a technical solution to plastic pollution but also serves as a means to strengthen cultural identity and encourage collective community participation. The success of this initiative depends on continuous education, intensive socialization, and cross-sector collaboration. In this way, the project is expected to generate ecological and social benefits simultaneously, contributing to sustainable rural development in the region.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase public understanding of the circular economy concept and encourage its implementation in utilizing wetland potential in Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The outreach program was successfully conducted in Guntung Ujung Village, Gambut District, Banjar Regency on August 29, 2025. The results of this activity indicated an increase in the community's initial understanding of the concept and benefits of a circular economy. More than 50 participants, consisting of village residents, MSMEs, and village officials, attended the activity. Most participants expressed their readiness to apply circular economy principles in their economic activities. New initiatives, such as the processing of rice straw into compost by a farmer group, and the interest of a village women's group in developing purun and water hyacinth crafts, were identified. Based on the evaluation results, the team also identified challenges faced by residents, such as limited access to capital, a lack of understanding of wetland resource management, and a lack of supporting infrastructure. Therefore, the results of the circular economy outreach program will serve as the basis for further programs such as training and mentoring in assisted villages.

Abstract

In general aviation (GA) training, particularly on piston engine aircraft such as the Cessna 172 SP, cruising speed decisions are typically based on established standard procedures or instructor judgment, without economic calculations. This study introduces the Cost Index General Aviation (CIGA), adapted from airline operations, to enable more accurate and data-driven cruising speed selection. The study uses operational data from the Indonesian Civil Pilot Academy, Banyuwangi, and applies multiple linear regression (MLR), sensitivity analysis, and descriptive analytics to model the relationship between flight time, fuel consumption, and operating costs. CIGA is the ratio of the cost of time (instructor wage per hour) to the price of fuel, expressed in liters per hour. This index acts as a dynamic decision threshold: when the additional fuel burn per hour from a higher cruising speed is less than the CIGA value, flying at a higher speed is more cost-effective; when it exceeds the CIGA, flying at a slower speed is more economical. This study simulated flight patterns at various engine rpm levels between 2200 – 2650 rpm and found that 2400 rpm provided optimal performance under balanced operating conditions. A sensitivity analysis showed that fuel price had the greatest impact on profitability, followed by instructor wages and maintenance costs. The results indicate that the CIGA system can be a practical decision support tool for mangerial, finance, instructors and operators, offering cost savings of up to 12% per sortie for training purpose. This research contributes to the development of cost-effective, data-driven operations in the general aviation training environment.

Abstract

Empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) through digital marketing training is one of the tangible contributions made by community service students (KKN) in Cihampelas Village. This program was designed to address the challenges faced by small business owners in promoting their products in the digital era. The main activities included providing education on digital marketing strategies, designing business logos that represent product identity, and assisting in branding so that MSMEs can adapt to technological developments. In addition, students offered technical guidance on the use of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp Business as effective promotional tools. Special assistance was also provided to introduce the use of Google Maps, enabling local businesses to become more visible and easily accessible to potential customers. Through an interactive approach, the training emphasized not only theoretical knowledge but also hands-on practice that participants could directly apply to their businesses. The outcomes of the program revealed improvements in digital literacy, greater awareness of the importance of business identity, and enhanced skills in utilizing digital platforms for promotion. Participants’ enthusiasm was evident through their active involvement in discussions and practice sessions, indicating that the need for digital skills among MSMEs is very high. Although there were still some limitations in technical mastery, this program successfully created a positive impact and opened opportunities for sustainable development of MSMEs in Cihampelas Village. It is expected that, after the program, local entrepreneurs will continue to develop their digital skills, allowing them to compete and expand their market reach in an increasingly competitive global environment.
