Abstract

Speaking is an important skill in learning English, especially for students from non-English departments such as the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at the Az Zahra Tasikmalaya Islamic Boarding School. Students from Islamic boarding schools and rural areas generally face challenges in speaking English because they are not accustomed to using the language in their daily lives. This study aims to describe the role of social interaction in building student self-confidence through discussion-based and role-play speaking activities. This study uses a qualitative phenomenological approach, with research subjects consisting of third-semester students of the Islamic Religious Education Study Program at the Az Zahra Tasikmalaya Islamic Boarding School. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of learning activities, then analyzed using an interactive model that includes data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that discussion-based and role-play speaking learning can create an interactive, enjoyable learning atmosphere and support the growth of student self-confidence. Through social interaction in small groups, students become more confident in speaking, support one another, and feel safe when making mistakes. Role-play activities help students practice speaking naturally without pressure, while the lecturer’s empathetic and supportive attitude strengthens motivation and reduces speaking anxiety.

Abstract

The lifetime halal certificate policy stipulated in the amendment to Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance (Law on Halal Product Assurance) thru Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Job Creation has sparked controversy among business actors, certification bodies, and the public. On the one hand, this policy is seen as a form of deregulation that promotes efficiency and ease of doing business; on the other hand, it raises concerns about the declining effectiveness of halal supervision and consumer protection guaranties. This research aims to analyze the implications and challenges of the lifelong halal certificate policy from a consumer protection perspective, using a normative legal approach based on Philipus M. Hadjon's legal protection theory and Satjipto Rahardjo's progressive law principles. The research results indicate that without periodic evaluation and verification mechanisms, lifetime halal certificates have the potential to create a false sense of security for consumers and reduce public trust in the national halal assurance system.

Abstract

This study analyzes the use of metaphors in Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds album, aiming to classify the types of metaphors employed in the song lyrics and uncover their underlying meanings. The research examines ten songs using a descriptive qualitative approach, drawing on Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) Conceptual Metaphor Theory as the primary analytical framework. The lyrical data were collected from publicly available sources and analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing based on Miles and Huberman’s (1994) model. The findings reveal three dominant metaphor types—ontological, structural, and orientational with structural metaphors appearing most frequently. These metaphors function as symbolic representations of emotional and existential themes such as struggle, identity, love, and resilience. Gallagher often translates abstract concepts into concrete imagery such as light, roads, storms, and clocks—enabling listeners to perceive complex human experiences in a tangible manner. The study concludes that metaphors in High Flying Birds serve not merely as stylistic devices but as cognitive tools that shape listeners’ understanding of life and emotional realities. This research contributes to semantic studies by demonstrating how conceptual metaphors in song lyrics construct meaning beyond literal interpretation and reinforce music’s role as a medium of cultural and emotional expression.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an inquiry-based learning model in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) to enhance students’ critical thinking skills at Yayasan Pendidikan Islam Yahdi. The core problem identified is that PAI learning remains predominantly teacher-centered, resulting in passive student participation and limited development of critical thinking abilities. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects included one Islamic Religious Education teacher and 25 fifth-grade students at SD Swasta Yahdi. Expert validation results showed an average feasibility score of 88.3%, categorized as “Highly Feasible.” The practicality test obtained an average score of 4.45, indicating that the model was “Highly Practical.” During implementation, students demonstrated increased activity, motivation, and reflective thinking in understanding Islamic values. Teachers also reported that the learning process became more interactive, engaging, and meaningful. Overall, the developed inquiry-based learning module was declared feasible, practical, and effective in improving students’ critical thinking skills in Islamic Religious Education at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Character education is a crucial component of the national education system in addressing the challenges of globalization, moral decline among youth, and the weakening of spiritual values in daily life. Various social symptoms—such as reduced respect toward teachers and parents, dishonesty, and deviant behavior—indicate that character formation has not been carried out optimally in both family and school environments. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in shaping students’ Islamic character at MAS Alwashliyah Lubuk Pakam. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation involving PAI teachers, students, and the school principal. The findings reveal that PAI teachers function not only as educators but also as spiritual guides, motivators, and role models who internalize Islamic values through habituation of worship, integration of religious teachings in learning activities, and religious-based extracurricular programs. Character formation is strengthened by a supportive school culture and conducive policies, yet hindered by negative social media influence and insufficient parental guidance. Overall, the study confirms that synergistic collaboration between teachers, schools, and families is essential in fostering Islamic character that is both internalized and practiced consistently by students.

Abstract

This study investigates the concept of family education contained in Surah At-Tahrim verse 6 through the interpretation of Imam Al-Qurtubi. The Qur’an positions itself not only as a theological guide but also as a comprehensive framework for human behavior, including educational practices within the family. Using a qualitative library research approach, this study examines primary sources in the form of Qur’anic texts and classical tafsir, supported by secondary literature from scholarly journals and previous studies. Data were analyzed descriptively by identifying educational values embedded in the verse. The results reveal that Surah At-Tahrim verse 6 emphasizes the believer’s responsibility to protect and guide the family from moral and spiritual destruction. This responsibility is manifested through self-education, emulating the noble character of the Prophet Muhammad, understanding the consequences of neglecting divine commands, and embodying the discipline demonstrated by the angels. These elements construct a holistic educational framework where the family becomes the earliest and most strategic environment for shaping religious character and moral resilience. Thus, Islamic family education is not merely an ethical recommendation, but a divine mandate with transformative implications for individual and communal well-being.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of well-being on early childhood development through a comprehensive literature review. The research employed a library research method by examining national and international articles discussing dimensions of child well-being, including physical, emotional, social, cognitive, and environmental aspects. Content analysis was used to identify patterns, conceptual relationships, and the contribution of well-being to children’s holistic development. The findings indicate that well-being serves as a primary predictor of early childhood development. Emotional well-being plays a significant role in enhancing self-regulation, social competence, and emotional stability. Physical well-being—encompassing bodily growth and structured physical activity—has been shown to support motor development and cognitive functioning. In addition, the quality of the educational environment, warm teacher–child interactions, and responsive parenting at home constitute ecosystem factors that strengthen children’s well-being. Conversely, low levels of well-being are associated with behavioral problems, learning difficulties, and emotional disturbances. The study concludes that efforts to enhance children’s well-being must be carried out through a holistic and collaborative approach involving families, educators, early childhood institutions, and the broader social environment. Such integrative efforts are essential to ensure that children grow healthily, happily, and reach their optimal developmental potential.
