WACANA SARASWATI : Majalah Ilmiah tentang Bahasa, Sastra, dan Pembelajarannya publishes manuscripts on research in language teaching, literature, and linguistics. This journal accepts submissions of manuscripts that will be published within the scope:  Linguistics; phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and critical discourse analysis. Abstract

Language use in novel accordance with the context of sentence and according to events that occur in the story such as direct sentences and indirect sentences. The purposes of this study are to know the kinds of modal auxiliary verb and the function used in City of Heavenly Fire Novel written by Cassandra Clare. This study is descriptive qualitative research and object discussed about City of Heavenly Fire Novel written by Cassandra Clare. The data collection techniques are observation and literature review. Data analysis is to analyze sentences that use modal auxiliary verbs in the novel. The research findings are (1) modal auxiliary verb “could” and “would” mostly used in City of Heavenly Fire Novel, the use of modal auxiliary verbs “could” and “would” is 62% more than the use of modal auxiliary verb “will” and “can”; (2) The functions of modal auxiliaries are expressing present and past ability, expressing expectation, requesting action, requesting action, requesting permission, requesting permission, expressing preference, expressing present need or lack of need, expressing past need or lack of need, expressing advice, expressing advice about the past (action not taken), expressing present and past possibility, and expressing probability.

Abstract

This classroom action research was carried out in Class XII TKJ 1 SMKN 3 Tabanan with a total of 23 students. The objectives to be achieved in this study are to improve students' ability to compose personal letter texts, develop distance learning strategies and online learning models that are effective, efficient and fun. Students can involve themselves actively in communication activities by expressing their ideas, opinions and feelings. simply either orally or in writing online. The technique used in this study was to make observations/observations and give student performance tests in the form of online written tests. Using the Padlet application as a means for sending personal letters can improve the abilities of class XII TKJ 1 SMKN 3 Tabanan students for the 2021/2022 academic year. This can be proven through written evaluations/tests with the average student score in the first cycle being 57, 17 increasing in the third cycle to 70.43. Online learning or distance learning is currently carried out synchronously or asynchronously. Using interesting media is proven to increase student activity. In cycle I there were 9 students who successfully participated in the Zoom Meeting activity. 12 people in cycle II and 17 people in cycle III. Of these, 6 students were unable to use communication tools.

Abstract

This study aims to improve transaction administration learning achievement with the problem based learning learning model for class XI BDP1 students in odd semester of SMK Negeri 1 Tabanan for the 2022/2023 academic year. As for the research subjects, students who have a low understanding of basic competence analyze the procedure for recording proof of transactions in transaction administration subject which is characterized by low understanding, activity, enthusiasm, and students' courage in expressing their ideas. Actions are designed in two cycles. At the end of the action of each cycle, monitoring and evaluation are carried out, which are then reflected in the results of the evaluation for planning the next cycle. Monitoring was carried out using observation techniques, interviews and student understanding tests. Based on the evaluation results, it can be seen that in cycle I there was an increase in students' mastery of basic competence in analyzing the procedure for recording transaction evidence in the subject of transaction administration with the learning achievement score increasing from the average initial learning achievement score of 69.11 increasing to 75.33 with the percentage increase was 9.69%. Meanwhile, after being given action in cycle II there was an increase in the average value of student achievement increasing from 75.33 to 83.06 with an increase percentage of 10.88%. So that the average percentage of increasing the level of mastery of basic competencies in analyzing the procedure for recording evidence of transactions in transaction administration subjects between cycle I and after cycle II is 20.57%. (9.69% plus 10.88%)

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form of metaphor used in BTS song lyrics. The subject of this research is BTS, and the object of this research is song lyrics. The method used in this research was a qualitative research method. The data was collected by means of observation and document record/note by listening, reading song lyrics and noting important parts of song lyrics. Research procedures: First, the researcher downloaded BTS songs and their lyrics on the internet. Second, the researcher listened to the song. Three, researcher translated Korean songs into English. Fourth, the researcher read the lyrics of the song, then the metaphorical forms found were marked. Then the researcher found out the types of metaphors and their meanings. Finally, the metaphorical forms used in the lyrics of BTS’songs were discussed and analyzed using the theory of Larson and Lakoff & Johnson. Abstract

This research is a descriptive qualitative research which attempt to find types and aspects sosiolinguistics in “Save The Last Dance 2” Movie. The subject of this research was movie entitles “Save The Last Dance 2” Movie. The datawere collected by observation technique watching the movie. Regarding to the first problem statement about type of slang used in Save The Last Dance 2 Movie, there are only four types of slang found in this movie. Thoseare Fresh and creative, flippant, imitative and clipping. The occurrence of Fresh and Creative dominates the slang type used in Save The Last Dance 2 Movie. It means that slang words have much a new vocabulary to say for informal situation and condition in different area.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar Basic English Grammar mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan bahasa Inggris IKIP Saraswati dengan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan di IKIP Saraswati, subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dengan jumlah 17 mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa mahasiswa memperoleh rata-rata 53 dalam pretest, kemudian mengalami peningkatan pada test kedua yang dilakukan dalam siklus satu yaitu 70.8, dan pada siklus kedua, rata-rata nilai mahasiswa adalah 78. Ketuntasan klasikal pada skor dasar 23.5% (4 mahasiswa). Pada test siklus I, terjadi peningkatan ketuntasan menjadi 64.7% (11 mahasiswa). Pada test siklus II, ketuntasan klasikal meningkat menjadi 88% (15 mahasiswa). Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar Basic English Grammar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low activity and learning achievement in mathematics of class VI students at SD Negeri 1 Apuan, academic year 2022/2023. To overcome this problem, research was carried out by applying the constructivist learning model. This research aims to increase student activity and learning achievement at the school. By implementing classroom action research which was carried out in two cycles. Data about student learning activities was collected using observation sheets, while data on student learning achievement was collected using learning achievement tests. The results of this research indicate that there has been an increase in learning activities in class VI students at SD Negeri 1 Apuan. In the initial reflection, student learning activity was 1.52 which was classified as less active. In cycle I, there was an increase in the average score of student learning activities by 2.26, which was classified as quite active. Meanwhile, in cycle II the average score for student learning activities was 3.33, which was classified as active. The average score of student learning achievement in the initial reflection was 65.74. In cycle I the average score of student learning achievement increased to 72.61, while from cycle I to cycle II it increased by 8.48 to 81.09. It was concluded that the application of the constructivist learning model through a problem-solving approach could increase the activity and mathematics learning achievement of class VI students at SD Negeri 1 Apuan, academic year 2022/2023. From the results of this research, it is recommended that teachers apply this learning model so that the concepts and learning materials can be easily accepted and understood by students.

Abstract

This research focuses on the application of the role-play method to students' English speaking skills at the Mahima Institute of Indonesia (LPK) Course and Training Institute. The role-play method is also called role-playing. Role play is a form of learning method, where students are actively involved in playing a role. Through fun playing activities, children try to investigate and gain experience from themselves, other people, and the environment around them. Students at LPK Mahima Institute Indonesia use several learning media, one of which is presentation media. Presentation is a potent combination of design, implementation, the message contained, and the intention to catch the viewer's attention. Speaking is a productive language skill that is used orally to express thoughts and feelings so that by using the role-play method students can be actively involved in learning to speak English which can motivate students.

Abstract

Rara Beruk was born in Palar Legen Village, South Klaten region, Surakarta. His parents, Kiai Jagasura or Jagaswara, were poor villagers. Even so, Jagasura can create a peaceful, prosperous and happy household life. Jagasura and his wife did a lot of asceticism with a request that God would give them a decent life. When Jagasura's wife became pregnant, she dreamed of seeing the full moon and the sun, both of which shone brightly on the top of the mountain. He also saw rainbow rays. The three rays fought and the moonlight faded invincible, and finally turned into stars. Then, the star was rolled up by the sun. Nyai Jagasura also gave birth to a baby girl who radiated extreme beauty. The baby was named Rara Mulatsih and nicknamed Rara Beruk. The name was given to commemorate the birth of a baby who brought abundant fortune. Since the birth of Rara Beruk, Jagasura's life has improved.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the relationship between the views of Tirto Adhi Soerjo and the character Minke in the novel Bumi Human in terms of feminism. This research was carried out using a qualitative descriptive approach. The data sources are the novel Earth of Mankind by Pramoedya Ananta Toer and the book entitled Tirto Adhi Soerjo Bapak Pers Indonesia (2012) written by M Rodhi As'ad. Data collection instruments are tables in the form of data cards and data analysis tables. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively with inductive conclusions drawn. The theory used to solve research problems is intertextuality. The results of data analysis show that Minke's views on feminism are known through the figures Nyai Ontosoroh and Annelies Mellema, there are three struggles for women shown: women's equality in the economic, social and political fields. Tirto Adhi Soerjo views feminism as an important thing. There are two things that Tirto is fighting for for women, namely, women's right to speak through the press and fighting for women to manage the media independently.
