WACANA SARASWATI : Majalah Ilmiah tentang Bahasa, Sastra, dan Pembelajarannya publishes manuscripts on research in language teaching, literature, and linguistics. This journal accepts submissions of manuscripts that will be published within the scope:  Linguistics; phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse analysis, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, and critical discourse analysis. Literature: local literature studies, Indonesian literature, foreign literature studies, children literature, popular literature, comparative literature, and postcolonial literature. Indonesian Language and Literature Learning: curriculum development, learning methods, learning materials, learning media, assessment, Indonesian language learning across curricula, information and communications technology in Indonesian language learning, language skills, and other Indonesian language learning analyses.

Abstract

Fenomena menunjukkan masih rendahnya tingkat keberhasilan membaca masyarakat Bali. Hal ini dapat dilihat dalam perbandingan jumlah penduduk Bali mencapai 2,5 juta orang, sementara tingkat kunjungan ke Perpustakaan Bali per harinya baru mencapai 400 sampai 500 orang. Ini berarti tradisi membaca belum memasyarakat. Untuk menyikapi hal tersebut, mari kita mengajak masyarakat ”budayakan membaca” sehingga kegiatan membaca menjadi kegiatan rutin dan menyenangkan. Solusinya adalah konsep/informasi ini dikembangkan dalam kegiatan nyata, diadakan koordinasi pada lembaga/instansi terkait dan pengembangan perpustakaan atau pengadaan bahan bacaan yang sesuai dengan tingkat intelektual anak.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penulisan artikel ini dilatarbelakangi adanya ragam budaya Indonesia yang perlu disampaikan pada penutur asing. Keberagaman budaya yang tidak hanya adat istiadat dan budaya juga menjadi alasannya. Rumusan masalahnya berkaitan dengan bagaimana khazanah batik di Indonesia dan pengenalan khazanah batik dalam pengajaran BIPA. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil pembahasan menjelaskan sejarah batik, terutama di Yogyakarta dan Surakarta dengan disertai filosofi motif-motif batik dari daerah tersebut karena batik adalah warisan kemanusiaan nonbenda yang ditetapkan oleh UNESCO. Implementasi dapat dilaksanakan pada pembelajaran BIPA level menengah hingga lanjut dengan dikaitkan pada keterampilan menyimak, berbicara, membaca, dan menulis. Jika semua proses pembelajaran tersebut dilakukan dengan terintegrasi, maka hasil akhir pelajar BIPA dapat mempraktikkan bahasa Indoensia dengan benar dan pemahaman tentang budaya batik di Indonesia, terutama batik Jawa dapat tercapai. Kata Kunci : Khazanah Batik, Warisan Kemanusiaan, Pembelajaran BIPA ABSTRACT The background of the writing of this article is the diversity of Indonesian culture that needs to be conveyed to foreign speakers. The cultural diversity which is not only customs and culture is the reason. The formulation of the problem is related to how the treasures of batik in Indonesia and the introduction of batik treasures in BIPA teaching. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. The results of the discussion explain the history of batik, especially in Yogyakarta and Surakarta, along with the philosophy of batik motifs from these areas because batik is a non-material human heritage established by UNESCO. Implementation can be carried out at intermediate to advanced levels of BIPA learning related to listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. If all the learning processes are carried out in an integrated manner, then the final result of BIPA students can properly practice the Indonesian language and an understanding of batik culture in Indonesia, especially Javanese batik can be achieved. Abstract

Jika kita membicarakan tentang kata pada umumnya, kita mendeskripsikan tentang bentuk dan fungsi kata seperti kita membahas tentang klas atau kategori kata yang meliputi kata kerja, kata benda, kata sifat, kata keterangan, kata ganti dan lain sebagainya. Kita tahu dalam pembentukan kata seperti infleksi dan derivasi, di mana kedua proses itu termasuk proses afiksasi. Di sisi lain, deskripsi tentang kata dari sudut semantik tidaklah sederhana. Banyak aspek tentang kata mesti dipertimbangkan seperti dari sudut fonologis, morfologis dan sintaksis dan sebagainya

Abstract

The mass media or what is called journalistic media is one of the aspects that has received very large influence because of the development of electronic media. It is because the news can be disseminated very easily. This makes journalists race to modify the writing format so that it can be more attractive to readers. One of the new journalism variants chosen by journalists is feature. Journalistic article writing that uses feature writing types can be found on the electronic mass media website Tatkala.co. Unlike straight news content which emphasizes the 5W+1H elements with the inverted pyramid rule, features emphasize the "How" and "Why" elements with processes, details of events, and background. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method and data collection techniques used are interviews and literature or documentation studies. Based on the analysis, the feature categories found in the Tatkala.co news are profile features, historical features, adventures features, seasonal event features, human experience features, lifestyle features. Abstract

Intertextual theory views a literary work as something that has a relationship with the previous text. Literary works have their own beauty that can attract someone to enjoy them from different points of view. The approach in this research uses intertextual studies to analyze data in order to see the relationship between the two texts. The data source in this research is based on the novels Dhia'an Farah Afifah and Destashya Wisna Diraya Putri. Dhia'an Farah Afifah is one of the writers who raised the theme of romance in one of his novels entitled Dikta and Hukum which was adapted from Alternate Universe Twitter (AU) which was later published as a novel. However, the love story raised in this story is not only about stories that the ending is happy, just like Dhia'an Farah, Destashya Wisna Diraya Putri also raises the same theme, namely about love, which is outlined in her novel entitled Angkasa and 56 Days which is based on Alternate Universe Twitter (AU). The novel Dikta and Hukum has Dikta as the male character and Nadhira as the female main character. The love story of Dikta and Nadhira was forced to stop when Dikta died due to the disease he was suffering from, namely kidney failure. The novels Angkasa and 56 Days have the main characters Angkasa as the male character and Nadhine as the main female character. Their love story first occurred during the introduction to campus life, starting with the word "hi" which apparently made them fall in love with each other.

Abstract

Tradisi Mangupa merupakan warisan budaya turun-temurun yang masih dilestarikan oleh masyarakat Batak Toba. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis makna tanda-tanda budaya yang muncul dalam upacara Mangupa, khususnya pada simbol utama berupa ikan mas arsik dan bahan pelengkap lainnya yang masing-masing memiliki nilai dan makna tersendiri. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi pustaka. Analisis dilakukan dengan menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce yang membagi tanda menjadi tiga kategori utama, yaitu ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Data dikumpulkan melalui kajian terhadap literatur, jurnal ilmiah, serta dokumentasi video pelaksanaan upacara Mangupa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima tanda utama yang berfungsi sebagai simbol budaya dalam upacara Mangupa, yaitu ikan mas arsik, aek sitio-tio, tikar pandan, ulos, dan boras sipir ni tondi. Kelima tanda ini merepresentasikan nilai spiritual, harapan, dan kekuatan simbolik dalam kehidupan masyarakat Batak Toba.

Abstract

This article examines the uniform of Indomaret employees as a visual representation that constructs professional identity through a semiotic approach, particularly drawing on Roland Barthes’ theory of signs. In this context, the uniform is not merely functional attire but a sign system imbued with social and ideological meanings. The study explores various visual elements—such as color, material, cut, accessories, and corporate symbols—to identify how each component contributes to the construction of the ideal retail worker as envisioned by the institution. The dominant blue color, for instance, not only symbolizes calmness and trust but also reinforces an image of professionalism and order that aligns with corporate values. Furthermore, the uniform’s standardization creates a homogenization of identity that supports institutional control and fosters collective identity among employees. This article also highlights how the uniform functions as a form of nonverbal communication between employees and consumers and how it plays a role in the power dynamics between institutions and individuals. Thus, the Indomaret uniform is not simply a textile product, but a visual discourse that represents values, roles, and the positioning of individuals within a broader social structure. This article contributes to a deeper understanding of how visual signs in the retail work environment help construct social reality and professional identity in contemporary society.

Abstract

The potential of Instagram continues to show an increase in users from year to year. This article is motivated by the anxiety of using Instagram in improving recount text writing skills . However, not many lecturers utilise Instagram for learning in lectures. Therefore, this article has an urgency to examine the potential utilisation of Instagram in learning to write recount text. The purpose of this research is to explore various relevant studies and literature related to the topic. The method used is a Classhroom Action Research, using literature sources to find out the potential and use of the media. The result of this study is that the potential of Instagram in learning to write is huge. In addition, the use of Instagram in improving recount text writingskills has shown real results. The various features available in the media are very supportive for recount text.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of using short story posters to enhance vocabulary achievement among young learners. Conducted at SD Negeri 1 Satera, the research involved 15 fifth-grade students during the 2024/2025 academic year. A classroom action research design was employed, with pretest and posttest data collected to measure the impact of the intervention. The results reveal a significant improvement in students' vocabulary achievement, with the average score increasing from 55.2 in the pretest to 78.6 in the posttest. The standard deviation decreased from 8.4 to 7.2, indicating more consistent performance across the group. The combination of narrative context and visual aids in short story posters proved effective in making vocabulary learning engaging and meaningful, catering to young learners' developmental needs and learning preferences.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the writing skills of ninth-grade students at SMP N 2 Tabanan through the application of the Flip Picture technique in narrative texts. This technique utilizes a series of images as visual aids to stimulate students' imagination and help them understand narrative structure. The research employed a classroom action research method with two main stages: pre-test and post-test. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students' writing abilities, with the average score increasing from 65 in the pre-test to 80 in the post-test. The Flip Picture technique proved effective in enhancing text organization, vocabulary usage, and student creativity. Additionally, students demonstrated higher motivation and engagement during the writing process. However, some students faced difficulties in constructing sentences due to limited vocabulary. This study concludes that the Flip Picture technique can serve as an innovative and interactive teaching method to enhance writing skills, particularly in narrative texts. Further research is recommended to combine this technique with vocabulary enhancement strategies for more comprehensive writing skill development.
