Abstract

Both English and Indonesian have adverb of manner. This part of sentence is used to describe how how an action occurred or to state how an action was taken. English adverbs of manner can be easly seen from the suffix –ly at the end of the word. In the other hand, Indonesian adverbs of mannerare not only in the form of wordbut also prepositional phrase or clause. Data taken from an Indonesian version of English novel indicated that the English adverbs of manner are translated in various ways into Indonesian. Since there are lots of ways in translating the English adverbs of manner, this study was conducted to see the procedure used to translate the English adverbs of manner into Indonesian in the novel Breaking Dawn and its translation Awal yang Baru.

Abstract

Active and passive sentence constructions are commonly used both in English and in Indonesian. The passive sentence is a form of sentence which emphasizes on the person or object that experiences the action rather than the person or object that performs the action. The passive sentence in English is formed by to be + past participle. And the others passive sentences are formed with infinitive and gerund. The Indonesian passive sentences are caractherized by the use of prefix di-, ter-, and ke- -an in the predicate. The objectives of this study are 1) to identify the translation of English passive sentences in Indonesian, and 2) to find the translation shift that occurs from the English passive sentences into Indonesian.This research uses qualitative method. The data is taken from a novel written by Stephenie Meyer (2008) entitled Breaking Dawn and its translation in Indonesian. The result shows that not all of the English passive sentences are translated into Indonesian passive sentences. Some of them are translated into Indonesian active sentences.

Abstract

Translation and Interpretation is one of the subject taught in English Education Department of IKIP Saraswati. Students were taught to be able to do both translating and interpreting. They were practicing them on the sixth semester. Observation was conducted during the practice of consecutive interpreting. It is an activity which involves the interpreter converting the words of the first language into the other, directly after the first language is spoken. This paper discuses the strength and the weaknesses of consecutive interpreting conducted by the students of English Education Department.

Abstract

Some words are innately understood but cannot be expressed in simpler terms. They represent words or phrases that are used through practice but cannot be defined correctly. Those words cannot even be explained by other terms. This is called semantic primitive. The use of the word ‘more’ still has many meaning. Hence, this paper discusses about the semantic primitive on augmentor ‘more’.

Abstract

Fenomena menunjukkan masih rendahnya tingkat keberhasilan membaca masyarakat Bali. Hal ini dapat dilihat dalam perbandingan jumlah penduduk Bali mencapai 2,5 juta orang, sementara tingkat kunjungan ke Perpustakaan Bali per harinya baru mencapai 400 sampai 500 orang. Ini berarti tradisi membaca belum memasyarakat. Untuk menyikapi hal tersebut, mari kita mengajak masyarakat ”budayakan membaca” sehingga kegiatan membaca menjadi kegiatan rutin dan menyenangkan. Solusinya adalah konsep/informasi ini dikembangkan dalam kegiatan nyata, diadakan koordinasi pada lembaga/instansi terkait dan pengembangan perpustakaan atau pengadaan bahan bacaan yang sesuai dengan tingkat intelektual anak.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar Basic English Grammar mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan bahasa Inggris IKIP Saraswati dengan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilaksanakan di IKIP Saraswati, subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dengan jumlah 17 mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa mahasiswa memperoleh rata-rata 53 dalam pretest, kemudian mengalami peningkatan pada test kedua yang dilakukan dalam siklus satu yaitu 70.8, dan pada siklus kedua, rata-rata nilai mahasiswa adalah 78. Ketuntasan klasikal pada skor dasar 23.5% (4 mahasiswa). Pada test siklus I, terjadi peningkatan ketuntasan menjadi 64.7% (11 mahasiswa). Pada test siklus II, ketuntasan klasikal meningkat menjadi 88% (15 mahasiswa). Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar Basic English Grammar mahasiswa.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of translating spiritual songs from English to Indonesian and vice versa. The approach used is an interdisciplinary approach due to not only a linguistic approach, but also music and theology. The problem is the difference in the number of syllables needed to convey the message in a complete sentence with the availability of syllables in the melody. The translation method of Newmark was applied, which focuses on the Target Language. It uses two songs that have been translated by the author and have been sung by the congregation during a worship in the church. The results of the translation through testimonies given by native English and Indonesian speakers, where both parties actively understand both languages, with a background in music knowledge and faith. The results of the study concluded that there would be no translated song that could be one hundred percent accurate in transferring the message of the lyrics and intangible elements in a song, but it could be attempted as close as possible by looking at the parallels of words and meanings, the parallels of song structure, and the parallels of the impact of the song on listeners of target language. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggambarkan proses penerjemahan lagu rohani dari bahasa Inggris ke bahasa Indonesia dan sebaliknya. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan interdisipliner dikarenakan bukan hanya pendekatan kebahasaan, namun juga musik dan juga teologi. Masalah yang dihadapi adalah perbedaan jumlah suku kata yang dibutuhkan untuk membawakan pesan dalam kalimat secara utuh dengan ketersediaan suku kata dalam melodi. Metode yang digunakan mengacu pada metode penerjemahan menurut Newmark, yang menekankan pada bahasa sasaran. Digunakan dua buah lagu yang telah diterjemahkan sendiri oleh penulis dan telah dinyanyikan oleh jemaat dalam proses peribadatan dalam gereja. Penutur asli bahasa Inggris dan Indonesia yang berlatar belakang musik, ilmu dan keimanan juga memberikan komentar positif terhadap terjemahan lagu-lagu tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lagu-lagu rohani tersebut tidak dapat diterjemahkan secara sempurna ke dalam bahasa sasaran, terutama yang berkaitan dengan pesan-pesan lirik dan unsur-unsur tidak berwujud dari lagu tersebut, namun penerjemah dapat menerjemahkannya sedekat mungkin ke dalam bahasa sasaran dengan melihat kesepadanan kata dan makna, struktur lagu, dan dampak lagu bagi pedengar di bahasa sasaran.

Abstract

The translation method is expected to be a solution to the translation problems faced by translators. Translators are responsible for making accurate translated texts, writing and editing the translations so that they are easy to understand without changing the information contained in the source text. This scientific work is a case study on the translation of an article entitled Forest and Forestry that was sourced from the Open University BMP Translation 10, with the source text (ST) in English which was then translated into the target text (TT) in Indonesian. The case study method is used in this study to examine the results of the theoretical translation, and to find the translation method used to produce a translation that is commensurate and also acceptable. The Forest and Forestry article has several issues that make it more interesting to discuss in depth, including: limited word equivalents into TT, changes in the structure of TT to TT, and inconsistencies in the translation of certain words. There are three translation methods that are often used, including: word-for-word translation, failful translation, and literal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerjemahan karya sastra anak bergenre dongeng, metode penerjemahan yang digunakan, dan kualitas terjemahan dongeng tersebut ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Objek penelitian yang digunakan adalah dongeng The Seven Ravens karya Grimm Brothers. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa dongeng The Seven Ravens memiliki lebih banyak gaya bahasa lisan. Beberapa metode penerjemahan yang digunakan pada dongeng tersebut meliputi metode paraphrase, adaptasi, idiomatis, harfiah, bebas, dan semantik. Metode yang digunakan tersebut dapat mempertahankan gaya bahasa dongeng dalam bahasa asal dan menghasilkan terjemahan yang akurat dan terbaca, walaupun memiliki tingkat keberterimaan yang belum begitu baik.
