Abstract

The fictional film My life tells the story of a young child forced to work due to economic hardship. Through this narrative, the filmmakers aim to convey an important lesson to the audience: children, especially those underage, should not be subjected to labour. The film adopts a Realist style of direction to enhance its portrayal, ensuring that the narrative feels as authentic and true to life as possible. The Realist approach focuses on presenting reality as it is, minimising artistic manipulation to maintain the integrity of the events depicted. This approach is reinforced by the mise en scene, a key element under the director's responsibility. Mise en scene encompasses all visual components within the frame, such as acting, costumes, settings, makeup, and the performance of the actors. Through this, My life serves as both an artistic piece and a social commentary, highlighting the harsh realities of child labour while urging reflection on societal issues. The film's direction emphasises realism by capturing the emotional and physical truths of the characters' experiences, making it a poignant portrayal of the struggles faced by underprivileged children in Indonesia.

Abstract

The identification of tomato ripeness is essential in agriculture to ensure quality and reduce spoilage. Traditional methods that rely on human observation are often inaccurate. This research aims to develop a CNN-based system to accurately identify tomato ripeness, focusing on the ripe and unripe categories. The images were taken while the tomatoes were still on the plant stalk with data collection involving 1.000 images of tomatoes, obtained from Kaggle andtaking pictures of tomatoesat the Poktan Welan Asri Petinggen garden tour site, Yogyakarta. The dataset was divided into training (700 images), testing (150 images), and validation (150 images). The experimental designuses the CNN model with image processing steps such as resizing, labeling, and data augmentation. Testing on this system achieved an accuracy of 92.67%. These findings demonstrate the effectiveness of CNN in detecting tomato ripeness, providing a reliable solution for farmers and agricultural stakeholders

Abstract

Higher education is a crucial part in the education of Indonesian youngsters. Some of the most important part of higher education for students as well as for institutions are cumulative grade (IPK) and study time. The purpose of this study is to find the relation between study time and cumulative grade, or more precisely to predict cumulative grade based on study time. This prediction is done using the linear regression formula. The data are collected from the academic database of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Malikussaleh University. The data are then preprocessed and split into training data and testing data. The size of the testing data is varied to find the most optimal one. After training and testing, it was found that the most optimal size of testing data is 6%, which resulted in Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 0.1481 and R-squared (R2) of 0.6109. Though the result of these metrics are relatively worse compared to previous studies using linear regression, it can still be used to help find the optimal test size. To achieve better metrics, more data need to be collected from longer range of years.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between social comparison, problematic internet use and social anxiety in adolescents. Adolescence is a transitional period from childhood to adulthood, so that it makes a difference or change in the demands of the characteristics of development and growth. The research method used was quantitative correlation with a sample of 217 high school adolescents in Asemrowo District, Surabaya. Data collection instruments used three scales, namely the social anxiety scale, social comparison scale, and problematic internet use scale measured using a Likert scale. The results of the analysis show that social comparison and problematic internet use have a simultaneous relationship with social anxiety in adolescents. Teenagers with social comparison will compare themselves with others, supported by problematic internet use carried out in each teenager, so that social anxiety will increase. The next result shows that social comparison has a positive relationship with social anxiety in adolescents. This means that adolescents who compare themselves with others can increase anxiety and fear when in a social environment. The results of the third hypothesis show that problematic internet use has a positive relationship with social anxiety in adolescents. This means that teenagers who use the internet not according to their needs can increase their anxiety and fear.

Abstract

This research seeks to assess the impact of parenting styles employed by single mothers on the development of early childhood independence in the Kertasemaya District. An associative method with a quantitative approach is utilized for this study. The research will take place across various kindergartens situated in West Java Province. The population under consideration comprises all single mothers residing in Lemahayu Village, Kertasemaya District, Indramayu Regency, amounting to a total of 37 individuals, with total sampling being the chosen technique. Consequently, the sample encompasses all single mothers in Lemahayu Village, Kertasemaya District, Indramayu Regency, totaling 37 individuals. A questionnaire serves as the data collection instrument for this study. For data analysis, simple linear regression tests are conducted utilizing SPSS software. Findings indicate a significant effect of single mother parenting styles on early childhood independence in Kertasemaya District. The results from the simple regression test reveal a significance value of 0.049 (p<0.05), leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0) and the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This signifies that the parenting styles of single mothers exert a substantial influence on the independence of children. In this study, the coefficient of determination (R²) reveals that the parenting styles of single mothers account for 78% of the variance in children's independence, with the remaining 22% attributed to other factors not explored in this research. These results suggest that the parenting style of single mothers plays a critically significant role in shaping children's independence.
