Abstract

The initiative to create halal tourism in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was approved directly by the community and local government because it was considered antithetical to local customs. Indeed, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia remarked that the concept of halal tourism is carried out in Indonesia in order to provide halal meals, suitable places of worship, and other halal services. In Indonesia, halal tourism is defined as the provision of friendly halal service facilities for tourists, also known as Muslim-friendly tourism. The rejection of halal tourist development in NTT prompted a study to ascertain the views of local governments, corporate actors, and the general public on halal tourism in East Nusa Tenggara. The findings from this study were examined utilizing social emotion methodologies and Christian religious education. The study's findings found that efforts are being made to maximize the potential of halal tourism in East Nusa Tenggara Province. For starters, social feelings can be leveraged to foster togetherness while enjoying local tourist attractions. Second, Christian education incorporates societal reform based on God's command and the love for God concept in welcoming others. It promotes acceptance of God's creatures and equitable treatment of them.

Many Islamic movements have emerged with a different style from the mainstream. One of them is the Salafi movement. Although many parties reject Salafi preaching, not a few can also accept it, one of them is a group of artists who are growing their religious passion. They are known as hijra celebrities. This article discusses the process of acceptance of Salafi da'wah among hijra celebrities. This research is field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. The primary data of this study were obtained from in-depth interviews with preachers and celebrities who attended Salafi recitations. The research subjects were determined purposively after observing several Hijra artists. This research also utilizes various literature related to the Salafism theme and the phenomenon of Hijra celebrity. The results show that social media plays an important role in encouraging the development of the Hijra movement. Social media has connected Hijra celebrities with Salafi preachers. Some of the celebrities interviewed admitted that their interest in attending Salafi studies grew after listening to recitations through social media. Thus, Hijra celebrities are actively seeking and receiving Salafi preaching.

Abstract

The vibrations produced by reading ghunnah have a favorable influence on a person's cognitive function, specifically in the form of memory strengthening or improvement in order to prevent senile dementia. The ability of tajweed Ghunnah is thought to have a good impact on memory. Furthermore, this capacity can help to prevent senility, which is a typical problem among the elderly. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ghunnah therapy on memory. The quantitative approaches utilized in this investigation were combined with a pre-post experimental design. The Reading Span Test method was used to assess respondents' memory before and after ghunnah therapy. The goal was to demonstrate that Ghunnah's intervention variable was the only one that had an effect on memory improvement. The findings revealed that respondents' memory scores improved before and after ghunnah therapy. As a result, it is possible to conclude that ghunnah therapy has a substantial association with memory.

Abstract

This paper study the business practices of Catholic entrepreneurs. Employing qualitative research and conducting in-depth interviews with purposefully selected informants from the community of  Profesional dan Usahawan Katolik Keuskupan Agung Jakarta (Catholic Professionals and Entrepreneurs of the Archdiocese of Jakarta, PUKAT KAJ), the findings reveal a consistent alignment of their business strategies with Catholic faith principles. A comparative analysis of The Economy of Francesco's Final Statement and Common Commitment 2020 finds that Catholic businesspeople prioritize individual changes due to human dignity and equity, while participants stress the importance of structural changes for global justice. The authors propose the integration of The Economy of Francesco's principles, either partially or entirely, into PUKAT KAJ's vision and mission. This strategic alignment is recommended to enhance the societal impact of members' businesses and further promote the values upheld by The Economy of Francesco.

Abstract

With its diversity in ethnicity and religion, some parts of Indonesia tend to be vulnerable to conflicts. This research aims to reveal the practice of religious tolerance and the active role of interfaith women in maintaining religious tolerance through daily dialogue. It emphasizes the significant participation of interfaith women in fostering religious tolerance. This study collected data from interfaith women in the Fatubesi subdistrict area of Kupang City using interviews and observation. The results show that interfaith women in Fatubesi, especially in the Oeba traditional market, live in harmonious and peaceful relationships. They have practiced the spirit of sisterhood and friendship in their daily encounters. Even though they are rarely involved in formal dialogue, women are active in a dialogue of life through daily interactions in informal spaces. They are connected in solidarity through openness, acceptance, respect, and helping one another. Furthermore, interfaith women are active peacekeepers through their activities of sharing food and other basic needs in their neighborhoods and during their religious celebrations. Therefore, the activism of interfaith women in the Fatubesi area is a practice that goes beyond religious tolerance.

Abstract

Salafi women are regarded as a more tight and exclusive community than men. This reality highlights Salafi Sharia provisions, which mandate women to stay at home. Nonetheless, young Salafi women are beginning to engage in productive activities by tapping business opportunities of digital economy. This study is based on a massive phenomenon regarding the involvement of young Salafi women in digital entrepreneurial activities. Using a case study of Salafi women in Lampung with purposive sampling technique, it analyzes data from in-depth interviews with 13 young Salafi women who run online enterprises and 2 men (ustadz and teacher) served as the main sources for this explorative qualitative research. This study demonstrates that apart from accepting technological advances, Salafi women also actualize themselves in digital economic activities. They can run successful online businesses and have a positive impact on their financial emancipation. Their internet commercial activities strictly adhere to Islamic law and not limited to products associated with Salafi life. Their activities do not deviate from Islamic norms and instead reflect the Salafis’ productive and reformist characteristics. Challenging conventional wisdom on Salafi women, this study finds that within their submission to Salafi teachings and piety, they claim their active agency and contributions to family economy.

Abstract

The Salafi preaching style in Aceh has prompted a response from the Aceh Ulema Consultative Council (MPU/Majelis Permusyawaratan Ulama) through a heretical fatwa on several Salafi teachings leading to communal conflict in Aceh. This article analyzes the socio-political background of the fatwa’s emergence, its impact on socio-religious conflict in Aceh, and Salafists’ resistance through a judicial review of the MPU’s legality. Combining literature and field studies, this paper demonstrates that the socio-religious conflict between Salafists and Acehnese society stems from the former’s truth claims regarding khilāfiyya issues. This is evident in the Salafi preaching style, which criticizes and hereticates some traditional Acehnese Muslim practices, that generated antagonistic responses from the MPU, society, and the Aceh government. The conflict has intensified after Salafists challenged the MPU’s legality in the Supreme Court of Indonesia despite its decline, which further solidified opposition to Salafi teachings and led to their marginalization in Aceh. This paper recommends that promoting tolerance by both parties is essential to resolving the conflict.

Abstract

The Arakan Perahu tradition in Kalipasir Village, Tangerang, is a legacy from the ancestors commemorating the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, which has historical roots since the 4th Sultan of Banten in 1639. Over time, this tradition developed with the launch of ships as a symbol of the spread of Islam. Even though there was a hiatus during the political struggle (1955-1993), this tradition was carried out again with the name changed to “Safinatunnajah Wassalamah” in 1994. This tradition reflects tolerance between Muslims and ethnic Chinese in Kalipasir, with Muslims respecting the religious activities of ethnic Chinese. Interestingly, in 2023, the government will participate in the event because, in previous years, traditional activities were only carried out in Kalipasir Village. The government supported the activities of the Chinese with facilities and security, but there was an imbalance against the activities of the Muslims. Nevertheless, the Kalipasir people still maintain traditions as part of the Tangerang civilization, respect differences, and uphold the values of Pancasila.

Abstract

The issue of Israel and Palestine has been going on for almost 70 years, and there is still no sign of lasting reconciliation. However, since 1948, several countries have taken part in the peace process between the two countries. Apart from state actors, non-state actors also contribute to Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation, one of which is the institution of the Catholic Church, the Holy See. With its unique status, the Holy See has a slightly different style of diplomacy. This difference can be seen in the presence of dual status, where the Holy See is both a state and a world religious institution. With the presence of this double-status, the Holy See has a wider diplomatic space than state actors, especially in conducting diplomacy related to the peacebuilding process. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the Holy See's diplomatic efforts in Israeli-Palestinian reconciliation. This research uses a qualitative approach by utilizing data sources from the internet and official documents. It finds that The Holy See plays a very important role in peace process in the Holy Land through religious institutions. It plays roles not only in bridging political friction between Israel and Palestine through normalizing relations, but also in undertaking humanitarian cases through social assistance.
