Abstract

Qur'anic education plays an important role in developing children's character and strengthening their religious understanding from an early age. This community service program aimed to introduce hijaiyah letters and basic tajwid rules to students at TPQ Masjid At-Taqwa, Bengkulu City, in order to improve their Qur'anic reading skills. The program was conducted through observation, learning assistance, demonstrations, guided practice, and evaluation activities. The results showed positive improvements in students' ability to recognize hijaiyah letters, understand reading symbols, and apply basic tajwid rules such as mad, ghunnah, and nun sukun and tanwin. Increased student enthusiasm and support from mosque administrators and parents contributed to the program's success, despite challenges related to differences in students' abilities and limited implementation time. Overall, the program positively enhanced students' Qur'anic reading skills, learning motivation, and appreciation of the Qur'an.

Abstract

Marriage in traditional societies is not merely a biological bond and formal legal contract, but a life cycle rich in socio-cultural values and ancestral traditions. This study aims to deeply examine the Nuei Rasan tradition, which lives and is preserved within the Padang Guci community in Selika Village, Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province. The focus of the study is directed at four main aspects: the procession of execution, functions and purposes, educational values (local wisdom), and religious values contained within it. This research utilizes a qualitative descriptive approach with an ethnographic method. Data were gathered through observation techniques, in-depth interviews with customary leaders and tradition practitioners, and text documentation. The results indicate that the Nuei Rasan tradition is a form of matchmaking deliberation involving customary mediators as well as specific instruments such as down payments and palai money, which distinguishes it from the customs of other tribes. Customary equipment such as tongking, betel leaf, lime, areca nut, and lemang are not merely visual complements, but symbols of honor, sincerity, etiquette, and customary legality. Socially, this tradition constructs values of politeness and social order for the younger generation. Theologically, this tradition manifests gratitude to Allah SWT and strengthens harmonious community friendship bonds.

Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning in schools plays a strategic role in shaping students' character and morals. However, in practice, IRE learning faces various complex and multidimensional challenges. This article aims to identify and analyze the multiple challenges encountered in IRE learning in schools, covering the aspects of teachers, students, curriculum, infrastructure, learning methods, and the environment. The method used is a literature review (library research) by analyzing various relevant sources. The results indicate that the challenges in IRE learning stem from both internal and external factors. Internal factors include sub-optimal teacher competence, low student learning motivation, and a superficial understanding of religion. External factors encompass a dense curriculum, limited infrastructure, the negative influence of social media, and an unsupportive family environment. Synergy among schools, families, and communities, alongside the renewal of learning methods and approaches, is required to overcome these challenges.

Abstract

Sex education for elementary school children is important to build self-awareness, moral responsibility, and the ability to maintain personal dignity according to religious values. The Al-Islam Education textbook plays a strategic role in shaping this understanding through the material presented to students. However, research on how Islamic sex education is constructed in Al-Islam Education textbooks at the elementary school level is still limited. This study aims to analyse the construction of Islamic sex education as well as the relevance of sexual education construction in the Al-Islam Education textbook for 4th-grade students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School. This study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis methods on the Islamic education book for 4th grade at SD Muhammadiyah. The research data consists of learning materials related to puberty, self-changes, obligations after puberty, awrah, and social ethics, which are analysed from an Islamic education perspective. The results show that sexuality education in the book is constructed through four main aspects: awareness of body changes, religious responsibility, self-honour protection, and social ethics. However, further development of the textbook is still needed, particularly in strengthening aspects of child self-protection and presenting more practical materials suitable for elementary school students.

Abstract

This study examines the representation of historical themes in elementary school IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) textbooks within the Merdeka Curriculum, with a particular focus on concepts and content structures related to social studies. Using a qualitative content analysis approach supported by a checklist technique, the research systematically evaluates how historical materials are organized and presented across Grades 3 to 6. The findings indicate that history learning is introduced progressively, beginning with local traditions, cultural diversity, and local wisdom, and advancing toward national history and global interactions. This structure reflects an effort to develop students’ understanding of identity from the personal to the global level. However, several challenges remain, including limited depth of historical content, the dominance of hero-centered narratives, insufficient attention to causality and multiple perspectives, and the persistence of colonial biases. Comparative insights from international studies highlight the importance of balancing chronological and thematic approaches, integrating humanitarian values, promoting gender inclusivity, adopting decolonial perspectives, and utilizing innovative pedagogies such as digital technology. Overall, the study suggests that while the Merdeka Curriculum provides a strong foundation for contextual and student-centered history learning, further enrichment is needed to foster critical, inclusive, and reflective historical understanding among elementary student.

Abstract

This study examines Aristotle’s conception of moral rationality and its role in the formation of ethical action. The research is grounded in the premise that reason constitutes the defining characteristic of human beings and serves as the primary foundation for moral judgment and ethical behavior. Employing a qualitative library research approach, the study analyzes Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics alongside relevant scholarly literature on virtue ethics, practical wisdom, and moral philosophy. Data were collected through a systematic review of primary and secondary sources and analyzed using descriptive and analytical methods to explore the relationship between reason, virtue, and action within Aristotle’s ethical framework. The findings reveal that moral rationality functions as the guiding principle of ethical action by enabling individuals to distinguish right from wrong and to act in accordance with virtue. Practical wisdom (phronesis) plays a crucial role in translating rational deliberation into concrete moral decisions, while virtue formation develops through habituation and continuous practice. The study further demonstrates that ethical character emerges from the integration of reason, emotion, and desire under the guidance of rational judgment. Ultimately, Aristotle’s concept of eudaimonia illustrates that genuine human flourishing is achieved through virtuous activity directed by reason. These findings highlight the enduring relevance of Aristotle’s ethical thought for contemporary discussions on moral education, character development, and ethical decision-making. The study contributes to moral philosophy by clarifying the systematic relationship between moral rationality and the formation of ethical action.

Abstract

The Creative TPQ Education Program was implemented at TPQ Masjid Al-Mubaarak, Sumur Dewa Village, Selebar District, Bengkulu City, to improve children's interest in learning the Qur’an. The program was motivated by several problems identified during the initial observation, including low student attendance, limited variation in teaching methods, minimal use of educational media, and low participation and enthusiasm among students during learning activities. On the other hand, the TPQ possessed valuable assets that could be utilized, such as adequate mosque facilities, support from TPQ administrators and parents, a considerable number of students, and children's enthusiasm for creative and interactive activities. This community service activity aimed to increase students’ interest in learning the Qur’an, participation, and engagement through enjoyable and innovative learning approaches. The method employed was the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, consisting of four stages: discovery, dream, design, and destiny. The program activities included Qur’an reading assistance, Islamic educational games, short surah memorization competitions, and Islamic calligraphy coloring contests. The results showed improvements in student attendance, participation, Qur’an reading skills, memorization of short surahs, and enthusiasm for attending TPQ activities. In addition, the program enhanced students’ creativity and self-confidence. Therefore, the Creative TPQ Education Program proved effective in creating an interactive and enjoyable learning environment that supports the sustainable improvement of children's interest in learning the Qur’an.

Abstract

Character education is an essential aspect of developing children's moral values and Islamic behavior from an early age. However, the influence of digital technology and environmental factors has created challenges in fostering positive character among children. This community service program aimed to strengthen Islamic character education through mentoring activities at the Qur'anic Learning Center (TPQ) based at Al-Mubaarak Mosque, Karang Indah. The program employed the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, which focuses on identifying and utilizing community assets and potentials to support sustainable development. The implementation consisted of four stages: Discovery, Dream, Design, and Destiny. Activities included Qur'an learning assistance, daily prayer memorization, worship habituation, Islamic moral education, and character-building mentoring. The program involved 18 TPQ students, mosque administrators, teachers, and student volunteers. The results indicated positive improvements in several indicators of Islamic character, including attendance, discipline, daily prayer memorization, participation in congregational worship, and respectful behavior toward teachers and peers. The success of the program was supported by the optimization of community assets, including mosque facilities, human resources, social support, and a religious environment. The findings demonstrate that mosque-based TPQ mentoring can effectively strengthen children's Islamic character while enhancing the role of the mosque as a center for education and community development. Therefore, sustainable collaboration among mosque administrators, educators, parents, and the community is necessary to maintain and further develop character education programs.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of teacher competency development policies in improving educational quality at Muhammadiyah Islamic Elementary School Sidokerto, Plupuh. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. The participants included the principal, curriculum coordinator, teachers, administrative staff, and other relevant stakeholders selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that teacher competency development was integrated into school planning, academic supervision, teacher meetings, workshops, mentoring, professional working groups, peer discussions, and independent learning. The principal played a central role in identifying teacher needs, determining program priorities, facilitating professional development, providing feedback, and monitoring classroom implementation. These policies contributed to improvements in lesson planning, instructional strategies, digital media use, assessment practices, classroom interaction, professional collaboration, and the integration of Islamic values into learning. Policy implementation was supported by leadership commitment, collegial cooperation, organizational culture, and Muhammadiyah educational values. However, limited funding, high workloads, time constraints, uneven digital competence, and insufficient follow-up reduced the effectiveness of several programs. The study concludes that teacher competency development must be implemented as a continuous institutional cycle consisting of needs assessment, program planning, implementation, mentoring, classroom application, evaluation, and policy improvement. Sustainable policy implementation can strengthen teacher professionalism and gradually improve educational quality.
