Abstract

Although Bekasi is not classified as an area with high earthquake frequency, it remains vulnerable to the impacts of fault shifts and regional seismic activity. Low awareness and limited knowledge among the community particularly students regarding earthquake emergency response procedures can increase the risk of casualties and losses when disasters occur. This community service program aimed to enhance the preparedness of students and teachers through school-based earthquake emergency response education. The implementation methods included disaster awareness sessions, evacuation procedure training, emergency response simulations, and the establishment of evacuation routes within school environments. The program was conducted in several primary and secondary schools in the Bekasi area, involving school stakeholders, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), and disaster relief volunteers. The results showed an 85% improvement in students’ understanding of self-rescue steps, along with the formation of school disaster response teams capable of executing evacuation procedures. This initiative is expected to serve as a sustainable education model that can be adopted by other schools in Bekasi to minimize the impact of future earthquakes.

Abstract

The training on the utilization of household organic waste for maggot cultivation was conducted as an effort to increase environmental awareness while creating opportunities to improve family income in Perum Mustika Tigaraksa, Tangerang. This activity was motivated by the increasing volume of unutilized organic waste and the community’s low level of knowledge regarding circular economy-based waste management. The training method employed a participatory approach through several stages: socialization, direct demonstration, technical assistance, and evaluation. Participants consisted of local residents, particularly housewives and youths, who were trained to process kitchen waste into feed media for Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae or maggots. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge and skills in sorting organic waste, cultivating maggots, and utilizing the products as animal feed and organic compost. Moreover, the program successfully fostered public awareness of environmentally friendly waste management and opened new household-based business opportunities with the potential to increase family income. Overall, this activity effectively integrated ecological, educational, and economic aspects while supporting the government’s sustainable waste management program at the community level.

Abstract

The cultivation of maggots (Hermetia illucens) from organic waste represents an innovative and sustainable solution to both environmental and economic challenges faced by local communities. This study explores maggot farming as a means of converting organic waste into valuable resources such as animal feed and organic fertilizer, while simultaneously creating new income opportunities for the community. The maggot cultivation process not only reduces the volume of household and market waste but also provides an environmentally friendly alternative for waste management. The results show that maggot farming can significantly contribute to improving community welfare by generating additional income, promoting green entrepreneurship, and supporting a circular economy. Therefore, maggot cultivation from organic waste holds great potential as an effective strategy for sustainable economic empowerment and environmental preservation at the community level.

Abstract

This study aims to determine (1) the optimal concentration of ginger extract for enhancing the quality of white glutinous rice dodol, and (2) the moisture content, total solids, and organoleptic evaluation of white glutinous rice dodol in accordance with the Indonesian National Standards. The research method involved mixing the water content, total solids, and organoleptic properties (color, aroma, texture, and taste) of the dodol through four treatments and three repetitions. Data were analyzed using SPSS. The treatments were as follows: 100% glutinous rice with 0% ginger extract, 95% glutinous rice with 5% ginger extract, 90% glutinous rice with 10% ginger extract, and 85% glutinous rice with 15% ginger extract. The research design used a repeated measures model with three repetitions. The highest organoleptic score for color was obtained with the addition of 10% ginger extract, receiving a score of 3.80 (liked), while the lowest score was found in the 15% ginger extract group, with a score of 3.37 (liked). For aroma, the highest score was observed in the 10% ginger extract group, while the lowest score was recorded in the 0% ginger extract group. Texture received the highest score in the 0% ginger extract group. The taste evaluation revealed that the highest score, 4.47 (liked), was in the 10% ginger extract group, and the lowest score was found in the 0% ginger extract group. The analysis of variance results indicated that there was no significant difference among the treatments (p > 0.05), and no further testing was necessary.
