Abstract

Nutritional problems among pregnant women remain a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly related to anemia, low birth weight (LBW), and stunting. One of the main contributing factors is the lack of knowledge among pregnant women about the importance of consuming a balanced diet during pregnancy. This community service activity aimed to increase pregnant women’s knowledge regarding balanced nutrition through a participatory, direct educational approach. The activity was conducted in May 2025 at the Independent Midwife Practice of Deby Cyntia Yun, Medan City, involving 30 pregnant women from various trimesters. The methods used included interactive lectures, group discussions, practical menu planning simulations, and evaluations through pre- and post-tests. The results showed an increase in knowledge scores from an average of 63% to 83%, indicating a 20% improvement. Participants responded very positively, with 93% reporting increased confidence in choosing healthy foods and 100% expressing interest in participating in similar future activities. The clinic partner also welcomed the program and suggested its regular implementation.  This activity demonstrates that a communicative, contextual, and practical educational approach to balanced nutrition is effective in enhancing pregnant women’s understanding. It is hoped that similar programs can be replicated in other healthcare facilities and contribute to stunting prevention and the improvement of maternal and child health quality in the community.

Abstract

Skin diseases, including scabies, are common health problems in environments with poor hygiene, such as dormitories. Scabies is caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite and can be transmitted through direct contact or contaminated objects. Poor personal hygiene is a major factor in the spread of scabies, making it essential to increase knowledge about proper hygiene practices for prevention. Educational videos are an effective learning medium as they deliver information visually and interactively, enhancing understanding and hygiene practices. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of educational videos on personal hygiene in preventing scabies at the Rabiatul Adawiyah Islamic Boarding School in Baturaja. The research design used a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test design in one group. The research sample was 32 students selected using the total sampling method. Data were collected through questionnaires before and after the video education intervention. The results showed a significant increase in respondents’ knowledge after the educational video was given. The average pre-test score was 41.00 (low category), which increased to 80.13 (high category) in the post-test. The Paired T-Test analysis produced a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant difference between the knowledge levels before and after the intervention. However, the implementation of scabies prevention was not fully optimal, as most respondents were in the moderate category (81.3%), and only 18.8% reached the good category. Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease often referred to as “The Silent Killer” because it can progress without symptoms yet cause serious damage to vital organs. Long-term dependence on pharmacological therapy carries the risk of side effects, highlighting the need for non-pharmacological approaches such as the use of herbal remedies. Bay leaves contain active compounds known to help naturally reduce blood pressure. However, family health management is often ineffective due to limited knowledge and support from family members in managing hypertension. This study aimed to address the problem of ineffective family health management in Mr. S over a period of three days by providing education on the benefits of consuming boiled bay leaf water to help reduce blood pressure. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach in the form of a case study involving one family with a hypertensive member. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. Educational interventions were carried out using health promotion media such as leaflets and flipcharts. The analysis followed the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Educational efforts directed at Mr. S and his family successfully increased their understanding of hypertension and alternative management strategies. The family demonstrated improved supportive behaviors in managing the health of the affected member, including the use of boiled bay leaf water as a complementary therapy. The patient’s blood pressure showed a decrease during the intervention period. Education on the use of boiled bay leaf water as a non-pharmacological therapy can improve the effectiveness of family health management in hypertensive patients. Family support and involvement play a critical role in the successful management of chronic diseases at the household level.

Abstract

Auditory hallucination is a core symptom of sensory perception disorder in schizophrenia patients, often impairing behavior and quality of life. One promising non-pharmacological intervention is scheduled spiritual dhikr (remembrance), believed to help patients relax and divert attention from hallucinatory stimuli. This study aims to examine the effect of scheduled dhikr therapy on the ability to control auditory hallucinations in patients with schizophrenia. This study applied a case study design using a psychiatric nursing process approach. The subject was a schizophrenia patient with auditory hallucinations at Prof. Dr. Soerojo Mental Hospital Magelang. The intervention involved scheduled dhikr activities conducted twice daily for three consecutive days (15–20 minutes per session), accompanied by behavioral observation and nursing documentation. After three days of therapy, there was a significant reduction in both the frequency and intensity of auditory hallucinations. The patient was able to perform dhikr independently, felt calmer, and showed improvements in self-control and social participation. These findings indicate that dhikr therapy is an effective spirituality-based nursing intervention for managing auditory hallucinations. It is recommended as a routine component of psychiatric nursing care to enhance patients' adaptation and quality of life.

Abstract

Punctual student attendance during early morning lectures plays a vital role in ensuring the effectiveness of learning, particularly in medical education, which demands high levels of discipline, academic workload, and mental readiness. However, student tardiness remains a common issue, influenced by various internal and external factors. This study aimed to analyze the factors affecting the punctuality of students’ attendance in the first lecture session at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muslim Indonesia. A cross-sectional quantitative design was used with a total sample of 197 pre-clinical students from the 2022 cohort, selected through quota sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires covering six independent variables: internal factors (learning motivation, sleep quality, and subject interest) and external factors (teaching methods, weather conditions, and learning environment). Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS software. The results showed that learning motivation (p = 0.045) and interest in the subject (p = 0.010) had a positive and significant effect on student attendance. Conversely, teaching methods (p = 0.005) and the classroom environment (p < 0.001) had a significant negative effect. Sleep quality (p = 0.257) and weather (p = 0.776) were not statistically significant. The regression model explained 48.7% of the variation in attendance (R² = 0.487). These findings emphasize the importance of both psychological and pedagogical factors in influencing student punctuality and highlight the need for engaging teaching approaches and supportive learning environments.
