Abstract

The increasing elderly population and the prevalence of degenerative diseases with residual symptoms require promotive efforts to maintain physical and mental health. Therapeutic Group Therapy (TGT) is considered effective in improving elderly self-integrity, but its scientific application is still limited. This community service project employed a quasi-experimental one-group posttest-only design involving 15 healthy elderly participants in Cawang Subdistrict, East Jakarta. The TGT intervention consisted of two sessions addressing adaptation to biological, sexual, and cognitive changes. Data on self-integrity achievement were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. All participants achieved maximum self-integrity scores (>6) after the intervention. The elderly reported increased enthusiasm for life, improved self-confidence, reduced anxiety, and greater social engagement. These findings indicate that TGT is effective as a community-based intervention to enhance psychological and social well-being in the elderly, consistent with previous research. TGT is recommended as a routine intervention model in community elderly health programs to improve quality of life and prevent psychological problems.

Abstract

Diarrhea is a common health problem in Indonesia and remains a leading cause of death, especially in children. Globally, the number of diarrhea cases is increasing, leading to infant mortality. According to WHO data, an estimated 1.7 billion cases of diarrhea occur in infants, resulting in 525,000 deaths each year. Poor environmental conditions contribute to the spread of various diseases, including diarrhea caused by environmental health problems. This study aims to identify factors influencing the incidence of diarrhea in infants in the Benakat Community Health Center (Puskesmas) work area. The methodology used in this study was a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 72 mothers with infants in Padang Bindu Village. This study was conducted between April and June 2025, with an equal sample size. The sampling technique used was total sampling. For data analysis, the chi-square statistical test was used. The results of the chi-square statistical test showed that for waste disposal locations, the p-value was 0.001, indicating a significant association between waste disposal locations and diarrhea incidence in toddlers. Meanwhile, for the availability of family latrines, the p-value was 0.000, also indicating a significant association between the availability of family latrines and the incidence of diarrhea in toddlers. Lack of education from health workers regarding reducing the risk of contamination is often a major factor in the occurrence of gastrointestinal infections.

Abstract

Nurses working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) face high work pressure, which can lead to stress. Knowledge of critical care is thought to play a crucial role in helping nurses manage this work pressure. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge levels about critical care and work stress levels among nurses in the ICU at Bina Kasih General Hospital, Medan. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A sample of 45 nurses was drawn using a purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were a knowledge level questionnaire and a modified work stress questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test using SPSS version 25. The study showed that the majority of nurses had high knowledge (46.7%) and moderate levels of work stress (44.4%). There was a significant relationship between knowledge levels and work stress levels (p = 0.003) with a moderate negative correlation (r = –0.542), meaning that the higher the nurse's knowledge, the lower their work stress levels. Nurses' knowledge of critical care plays a significant role in reducing work stress levels in the ICU. Regular training and competency building are needed as strategies to prevent work stress. Further research is expected to explore other variables that influence nurses' work stress.

Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are serious complications of diabetes mellitus, leading to infection, amputation, and even death. Proper wound management is essential for healing and preventing further complications. This study employed a case study with a qualitative approach at Gunawan Mangunkusumo Regional Hospital. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and nursing documentation over 3 days using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation). Results: The subject was a 65-year-old female patient with a diabetic ulcer (grade 4) measuring 60 cm² on the left foot. The wound showed yellow-black tissue, exudate, and odor. Interventions included modern wound care using foam dressing and tulle gras. On day three, minimal granulation tissue appeared, exudate decreased, but impaired skin and tissue integrity remained unresolved. Modern dressing helped reduce exudate, initiate granulation, and relieve pain. However, diabetic ulcer care requires long-term commitment, continuous education, and strict glycemic control to support optimal wound healing.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of death in Indonesia, with a steadily increasing prevalence. Early detection through community screening is a strategic effort to reduce the risk of NCD complications. This activity aims to detect NCD risk factors through health checks and provide education to residents of Beurandeh Village. The community service program was conducted in Beurandeh Village, Aceh Besar, during May 2025. A total of 46 residents participated in the activity, which included education and blood pressure, blood glucose, and uric acid screenings. The screening data were analyzed descriptively. Of the 20 residents screened, 24% were diagnosed with hypertension, 5% with hyperglycemia, and 19% with hyperuricemia. Interviews revealed risk factors such as excessive coffee consumption, smoking, stress, and a diet high in coconut milk. The results demonstrate the importance of screening and education in raising public awareness of NCDs. This activity also strengthened the synergy between educational institutions and the community in fostering a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Gingival enlargement is an abnormal overgrowth of the gum tissue caused by factors such as inflammation, medications, or systemic conditions. This condition often leads to aesthetic concerns, especially when it involves the anterior region. The aim of this case report is to describe the management of gingival enlargement using conventional gingivectomy to achieve symmetrical gingival margins. This case report involved a 39-year-old female patient who complained of asymmetry in the upper anterior gingiva. After initial treatment with scaling and pocket depth evaluation, conventional gingivectomy was performed on teeth 11, 12, and 22. The procedure followed standard steps including aseptic preparation, anesthesia, tissue excision, irrigation, placement of periodontal pack, and post-operative instructions. Evaluation at the first and fourth weeks post-surgery revealed favorable healing without pain, bleeding, or edema. The gingiva appeared clinically healthy and symmetrical, with no signs of recurrence. Conventional gingivectomy is an effective treatment choice for managing gingival enlargement that affects aesthetics. It enables restoration of gingival symmetry with satisfactory healing and outcomes both functionally and cosmetically. Conventional gingivectomy in this case successfully improved gingival symmetry and resulted in optimal aesthetic outcomes without complications.
