Abstract

This research discusses the dynamics of the lives of smallholder oil palm farmers in Silaut Pesisir Selatan. Palm oil was first introduced by transmigration residents from the island of Java and has become the main economic sector of the Silaut community today. This palm oil not only provides welfare to palm oil farmers but also to oil palm farm workers. This research uses a socio-economic historical approach using structural functionalism theory. The research method used in this research is a historical research method which is carried out through four stages, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of this research show the important role of the transmigration community in Silaut in developing oil palm plantations which are then adopted by the surrounding community. Palm oil is the main commodity because the land in Silaut has thick peat and is not suitable for rice farming. Palm oil has become the main economic sector since 2012 and will continue to grow until 2023, so that there are no more rice fields or rice farmers in Silaut. A significant economic increase occurred in 2021-2022 which was caused by the high price of palm oil at that time. Prosperity can be felt by all farmers including workers, so that palm oil changes the life structure of the people in Silaut and has a positive impact on the regional economy and improves existing infrastructure.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a narrative about the government's efforts in handling the ongoing smallpox outbreak in Cirebon. Poor living conditions can make it easier for communities to be struck by disease outbreaks. During the Dutch colonial period, infectious diseases caused chaos and concern among the people, one of which was the smallpox epidemic. The spread of smallpox first entered the Java region in the 17th century and reached Cirebon in 1870. The study uses historical methods, namely source collection, critique, interpretation, and historiography. The research focuses on the handling of the smallpox outbreak in Cirebon. This epidemic was triggered by poor sanitation, population density, and regional modernization. The study also highlights the role of vaccination, quarantine, and traditional medicine in efforts to combat the smallpox epidemic, as well as the challenges faced in implementing health policies in the local community. Ultimately, this article shows that efforts to prevent the smallpox outbreak in Cirebon were not entirely effective due to resistance from some parts of the community and poor environmental factors.

Abstract

This research is descriptive analysis using historical methods, through several stages of activities which include heuristic, criticism, interperation, and historiography. This research aims to provide an overview of the hegemony and trade war between Dutch and British imperialism in the Bima region. The results of the study show that the factors that encourage the Dutch and British to plant their influence in Bima are generally geopolitical and economic factors. The Dutch-British imperialist rivalry in the region was dominated by the influence of British power while the Dutch gained territorial control over the entire island of Sumbawa. Therefore, hegemony and trade competition have not occurred in open wars between the Dutch and the British in the struggle for power in the area since the XVIII century.

Abstract

This study aims to explain history of the role of the KUD of three Sekawan in the welfare of the palm oil farmer community in the village of Pulau Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province. The role in question is through the KKPA program that partnered with PT Citra Mulia Manunggal during 2012-2023. The methods used in this study are historical scientific methods, including: Heuristics, Source Criticism, Interpretation and Historiography. Based on the results of the research conducted, it is known that the KKPA program that was held by KUD three Sekawan had not been able to encourage the welfare of oil palm farmers in the village of Pulau Batanghari Jambi Regency during 2012-2023. This is because in the implementation of the KKPA, problems were encountered, including: The absence of transparency of fund management and publication distribution of business results carried out by the KUD management to cooperative members. The unclear distribution of results and the period of land surrender to cooperatives as a form of partner cooperation with PT. Citra Mulia is also not in accordance with the agreement. For this reason, further supervision is needed from all parties involved in its implementation.

Based on the results of the study, it shows that the founder of the Muhammadiyah organization, K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, played an important role in this matter. His thoughts on Islam, life, and education became the foundation of a progressive education. However, it still strongly stays based on the Al-Quran and Al-Sunnah. The Muhammadiyah organization emphasizes its efforts to improve religious life with practices such as in the field of education. K.H. Ahmad Dahlan is also able to offer a new education model as a renewal of conventional education from Dutch schools and pesantren. Thus, Muhammadiyah’s education can give birth to a new generation that is more “kaffah.”
