Abstract

This study examines the encounter between Bahira, a Syrian Christian monk, and the young Prophet Muhammad within the socio-religious historical context of 6th-century Arabia. The aim of this research is to analyze the historical, social, and religious context of the time and its significance for interfaith relations in the contemporary era. The study employs a historical method with a socio-historical approach. The research provides a description of the encounter between the two figures, which took place in the city of Busrā, Syria, when the young prophet accompanied a caravan led by his uncle, Abu Talib. During this meeting, Bahira engaged in dialogue with the prophet and identified a sign of prophethood on his shoulder. Although there is ongoing debate among Christian and Islamic scholars regarding the historicity of this event, the narrative of the encounter offers a positive contribution to shaping a new perspective on the history of Muslim-Christian relations. The meeting between Bahira and the young Prophet Muhammad serves as a model for contemporary discourse on religious coexistence, emphasizing common ground, hospitality and mutual respect, pluralistic dialogue, and reciprocal recognition. Through these aspects, the encounter illustrates dialogue and tolerance among adherents of different faiths. This study contributes to historical discourse on interfaith dynamics and highlights the importance of exploring religious historical narratives to foster interfaith cooperation.

Abstract

Lasem, a small town on the north coast of Java, has long been recognized as a meeting point for various global cultures, especially since the heyday of the Nusantara's maritime trade. This article explores Lasem's role as a cultural crossroads between Chinese, Javanese, Arabs and Europeans, which is visible in various aspects of community life, such as art, language, cuisine and local traditions. Through a historical and ethnographic approach, the research highlights how cultural interaction and assimilation in Lasem shaped a unique local identity, while contributing to wider cultural dynamics in Indonesia. The article also discusses the challenges Lasem faces in maintaining its cultural heritage amidst modernization and globalization, as well as the efforts of local communities in preserving their rich history and culture. Abstract

In this article the author constructs spiritual and social values in the Pedagogical Islamic historical perspective. A lack of understanding of Islamic pedagogy makes the negative stigma that Islamic pedagogy is only centered on the development of spirituality only, whereas Islamic pedagogy combines intellectual and spiritual development with interaction in learning. In order to achieve ideal learning, Islam offers the use of traditionalist teaching methods with the aim of forming humans spiritually, which is termed Islamic pedagogy. The idea of islamic pedagogy concept is characterized by the interplay between memorization, oral scientific transmission and writing that supports learning. The practice of Islamic pedagogy education is inseparable from the mystical approach to sacred texts. That is because the Strategy of Islamic pedagogy was formed by the revelation of the Qur'an obtained through hearing as well as Arabic culture from the relationship between memorization (memory) and oral tradition. This research uses historical methods by going through stages, namely; heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Memorization and oral tradition were the Arabs' way of spreading knowledge long before the practice of writing was known. Educational environments (mosques, madrasah) are more characterized as spiritual construction. The existence of social interaction in oral and written methods is the basic construction of the formation of social attitudes of students.

This research aims to develop website-based teaching materials with environmental history material integrated with eco-pedagogy. This is an effort to provide new insight for undergraduate History Education and Teacher Professional Education (PPG) undergraduate students at the State University of Malang majoring in history regarding environmental history and eco pedagogy. This research uses Borg and Gall's development research method, which is adjusted to the research conditions in the field. The data analysis technique was carried out descriptively, while the questionnaire data was calculated qualitatively and quantitatively for the student respondent test. The results showed that ecohistory scored 82.89% for website-based teaching materials. This shows that this teaching material is feasible and can be used efficiently. The success of this trial is a good indicator of its potential future application in a classroom learning environment.

Abstract

The long journey of trains in Indonesia began during the Dutch colonial era in 1840 until today. Historically, the implementation of trains began during the Dutch East Indies Colonial Government. The reason is, the increasingly modern transportation infrastructure in the community that connects villages and cities, or cities with other cities is one of the drivers of community mobility. This study uses a historical method because it examines in depth the mobility of trains to the community. The scope of the study includes the history of the development of trains, historical manuscripts from archives. The construction of the railway line was very useful for plantation entrepreneurs to transport their garden produce. The Dutch East Indies government also saw the usefulness of the railway line for military purposes. The Priangan railway line during the Dutch colonial era was known as the Preangerlijn (Priangan Line). The line was built in the period 1880-1894. The Priangan Line has characteristics such as hilly and valley land contours, making the railway mode of transportation an efficient means of transportation for transporting passengers and agricultural products. The results of this study illustrate that the train has become a symbol of connectivity and progress so that people can feel the benefits of modern transportation that continues to develop to this day and has become an inseparable part of the journey of history and development in West Java.
