Abstract

The tradition of proposing in Jambi Malay wedding customs is an important aspect that reflects social, religious, and cultural norms passed down through generations. In Jambi Malay culture, proposing is not only the initial process leading to marriage but also solidifies relationships between families and the community. This study aims to explain the origins of the proposing tradition, its processes, and the meaning of each stage. The historical research methods used include heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of the study show that the proposing tradition in Jambi Malay wedding customs includes various official processes with profound meanings. Based on interviews with traditional leaders, community members, and literature analysis, it was found that this tradition is regulated according to Islamic teachings, as expressed in the Jambi Malay proverb "Adat menurun, Syarat mendaki, Adat bersendi syarak, Syarak bersendikan kitabullah." This emphasizes that customary rules and Islamic law go hand in hand, with religious prohibitions also being customary prohibitions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Aisyiyah in women's empowerment in Bandar Lampung City from 1971-2000. The method used in this study is the historical method, which includes the stages of heuristics (source collection), source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The study results show that Aisyiyah plays an active role in women's empowerment through various programs. In the field of education, Aisyiyah established kindergartens (TK) as part of efforts to educate the younger generation. In the social aspect, this organization initiated the Aisyiyah Foster Children program, the "Aisyiyah Building the People with Social Justice" training, and the Aisyiyah Sakinah Family program. Meanwhile, in the economic sector, Aisyiyah developed the Aisyiyah Family Economic Development (BUEKA) to increase women's financial independence. In the health sector, Aisyiyah carries out Maternal Health and Child Survival (KIKHA) training as well as infectious disease and AIDS prevention programs in Bandar Lampung. This research reveals that the success of Aisyiyah not only lies in innovation in da'wah methods but also in its ability to adapt to social dynamics without leaving Islamic values. This finding makes an important contribution to understanding Islamic da'wah strategies at the local level as well as the strategic role of Aisyiyah in women's empowerment.

Abstract

Abu al-Rayḥan Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Biruni (973 M – 1048 M) is known as a multidisciplinary scholar who applied direct observation, verification, and critical analysis in writing history. This research examines al-Biruni's contribution to Islamic historiography through an analysis of his monumental work, Kitab tarikh al-hind, which contains in-depth studies of religion, philosophy, culture, science, geography, and the social life of Indian society. The historical method used in this research consists of five main steps, namely topic selection, heuristics (collection of primary and secondary sources), source criticism, interpretation, and historical writing. This approach is combined with the descriptive-comparative method to describe and compare al-Biruni's historiography method with modern historiography standards. The results show that al-Biruni applied various auxiliary sciences such as social science, culture, astronomy, mathematics, and linguistics in building an accurate and objective historical reconstruction. The approach of combining written, oral, and field observation sources reflects the concept of data triangulation that is now standard in scientific research. As such, the Kitab tarikh al-hind relies not only on narrative tradition, but also empirical evidence, making it an excellent work of scholarly historiography that is relevant today.

Abstract

The Tentara Kandjeng Nabi Muhammad (TKNM) movement emerged following the publication of an article insulting the Prophet Muhammad by the Djawi Hisworo newspaper on 1918, while the Aksi Bela Islam 212 movement arose in response to blasphemy allegations against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) in 2016. TKNM was the largest movement during the colonial period, and Aksi Bela Islam 212 became the largest post-colonial movement in Indonesia, both heavily influenced by media. This study examines the role of media in the TKNM and Aksi Bela Islam 212 movements using a comparative historical approach, involving heuristic, verification, interpretation, and historiography stages. Findings reveal a power-media relationship in the rise of mass movements, alongside political factors contributing to the mobilization of TKNM and Aksi Bela Islam 212, led respectively by prominent figures Tjokroaminoto and Habib Rizieq.

Abstract

The utilisation of Borobudur Temple as a tourist destination commenced during the colonial period. This article seeks to examine the life cycle of Borobudur Temple as a tourist destination during the colonial times. This research employs the historical method through four stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Using the Tourism Area Life Cycle (TALC) model, the article shows that the life cycle of Borobudur Temple as a tourist destination unfolded in three stages: exploration, involvement, and development. The exploration stage is thought to have occurred between the 1830s and 1870s, characterized by the lack of special facilities for tourists. The involvement stage is dated to have occurred between the 1870s and 1911, distinguished by the active involvement of the local community in the provision of tourism services, particularly in the areas of accommodation and transportation. The final stage (development), spanning from 1911 to 1942, saw the emergence of mass tourism at Borobudur Temple. This phenomenon can be attributed to the intensifying efforts of tourism promotion by various institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of Grade X students at SMA Negeri 15 Semarang regarding various history teaching methods used in class, including lectures, group discussions, the use of digital media, and project-based approaches. This research employs a qualitative exploratory approach, with data collected through student questionnaires and semi-structured interviews with history teachers. The findings show that most students perceive the dominant lecture method as monotonous, boring, and lacking interactivity. In contrast, teaching methods that actively involve students—such as group discussions, presentations, historical videos, interactive maps, and educational applications—received positive responses. These approaches were considered more engaging, easier to understand, and better suited to the learning styles of the digital generation. These findings highlight the importance of innovation in history teaching methods that are more contextual, participatory, and technology-integrated to enhance both the effectiveness and meaningfulness of learning. This study contributes to understanding student perceptions as a foundation for developing more relevant and enjoyable history teaching strategies.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a product and explain the effectiveness of role-playing game-based learning media to explain historical events (the General Offensive of March 1) for high school students or their equivalents. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method, which, according to Prof. Sugiyono, consists of 10 stages up to mass production. In practice, the RPG game for the historical event of the General Offensive of March 1 only reached the product trial stage. In the effectiveness testing process, the sample was obtained from students of MAN 1 Surakarta. The results of the material expert validation produced an average score of 93.0%, proving that the learning media is effective for teaching the history of the General Offensive of March 1. Role-playing game-based learning media can be an effective and enjoyable way to utilize technology in education, especially in explaining historical material.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the activities of the Port of Ampenan as an important trading port on the island of Lombok in the 19th century. The method used in this study is the historical science research method which consists of gathering sources (heuristics), source criticism (verification), reasoning (interpretation) and writing (historiography). The concept used in this study is the port concept which examines ports from an economic standpoint, especially in terms of trade. The results showed that in the 19th century Ampenan Harbor was one of the active ports which became the center of shipping and trade on the island of Lombok. Around 1840 until the end of the 19th century, the Port of Ampenan was used as a center for trade activities between islands on the island of Lombok. The commodities traded are divided into two, namely commodities based on politics (rice, textiles, rifles, ammunition, opium, and liquor) and commodities based on needs (green beans, eggs, bird's nest, tobacco, tarum, cattle and horses, fish , wood sandalwood, sea cucumbers, turtles, and so on). Apart from being a local shipping and trade route, Ampenan Port is also included in international trade routes. There are several shipping companies that are active in shipping and trading at Ampenan Port, such as European, Chinese and Singaporean companies.

Abstract

This research is directed at the struggle of two heads of families, with different Minangkabau socio-cultural backgrounds, how the socio-cultural environment affects their characters in educating their children. The method used in this study is a historical method through four stages, namely first, heuristic, which is the stage of data collection in the form of documents or books, articles, journals, and interviews. Second, source criticism is testing data by conducting internal and external criticism. Third, interpretation, which is interpreting the data obtained so that it becomes a fact. The last stage of historiography is to write history. The results of this study show that two father figures with different backgrounds, the first is the Jamarun family. Second, Intan Mara's family. The Jamarun family succeeded in educating their children, in contrast to the Intan Mara family where Intan Mara's children were disappointed and eventually disobedient. Intan Mara's children are not stupid or left behind, it's just that they do not get direction and support in continuing their education.
