Abstract

Introduction: According to a survey conducted by the Indonesian Gerontology Doctor Association in 2022, 37.8% of the elderly population in Indonesia have a history of hypertension. In addition to medication therapy, hypertension can be controlled through non-pharmacological therapy, including to soak the feet in warm water. The purpose of this study is to investigate the use of soaking the feet in warm water to reduce blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients in Jatikalang, Prambon District.Method: This pre-experimental study uses a one-group of pre-test post-test strategy. The population for this study consists of 46 elderly hypertensive patients. The technique of sampling is purposive, resulting in a sample size of 42 elderly patients. The instruments used are a questionnaire and an observation sheet. Data analysis was by the Wilcoxon test. Results: The systolic blood pressure before soaking the feet in warm water was 140.98 mmHg, and the diastolicof  blood pressure was 83.29 mmHg. The results of the analytical test yielded 0.000 (a p-value) for systolic blood pressure, and 0.000 for blood pressure of diastolic. Conclusions: Soaking the feet in warm water has an effect on reducing blood pressure of elderly hypertensive patients. It is hoped that this therapy can be used as an additional treatment for hypertension patients, allowing the community to perform it at home for 15 minutes daily, to lower blood pressure at a low cost. Keywords: Soaking Feet in Warm Water, Blood Pressure, Elderly

Abstract

Introduction:The COVID-19 pandemic juxtaposes the different aspects of life in the world. It mainly affects all the fields including the nursing profession and it turns out that this also affects their work-life balance leading to disproportion of the health lifestyle behaviors (HLB) of our nurses. Moreso, studies were conducted about Professional Quality of life (ProQOL) in different variables influences like mental health, empathy, resilience, stress, and caring behaviors but not with HLB. The study aimed to determine the relationship between healthy lifestyle behaviors and professional quality of life of nurses in a tertiary hospital situated in Pampanga. Method: A descriptive-correlational design was used and it employed a purposive sampling technique to gather the participants under the following inclusion criteria: 1) a registered nurse, 2) currently working in tertiary hospital which serves as the study locale, 3) regardless of the age, clinical area and position, and 3) willing to participate. It utilized standardized tools namely: 1) Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile (HPLP II) by Walker, Sechrist, & Pender (1995) and Professional Quality of Life Measure (ProQOL) created by Stamm (2009). Spearman rho was used for its treatment. Result: It revealed that there is a significant relationship between the healthy lifestyle and professional quality of life of the respondents (rs= .245, p value=.036).Conclusion: It was found that healthy lifestyle behaviors are have a direct relationship with professional quality of life among nurses. As they improve their healthy lifestyle behavior practices, it also improves their professional quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: The complexity of nursing problems arising in patients with pulmonary TB requires professional handling in collaboration between health workers in hospitals. It is used to improve the quality of life and quality of care in patients with TB. However, the application of interprofessional collaboration in some cases of the disease has not been optimalPurpose: Analyze Interprofessional Collaboration in the Care of Pulmonary TB Clients in one of the hospitals in Jember, Indonesia Methods: This study is a case study conducted in one of the hospitals in Jember, Indonesia. The researcher uses the IPC readiness checklist and fills out the IPC implementation evaluation checklist after the patient goes home. Results: The result of this study stated that the implementation of IPC by PPJA, together with other health workers, has not been optimally implemented. In this case, the application of interprofessional collaboration is still not optimal, as evidenced by the results of the IPC implementation checklist assessment, which is still in score categories 1 and 2. There are several obstacles, such as lack of communication between professions, lack of application of PCC and FCC approaches, overlapping roles and responsibilities, stereotypes from one profession to another, and feelings of inferiority to PPJA. PPJA can maximize its role in conducting IPC to improve patient-focused care; thus, the patient quality of life will increase. Conclusion: PPJA can maximize its role in conducting IPC to improve patient-focused care; thus, the patient quality of life will increase.

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiac rehabilitation can provide extensive benefits and prevent recurrent heart disease, however participation in cardiac rehabilitation rates is still low. Health promotion strategies witheducation can improve the ability and independence to carry out cardiac rehabilitation at home. The purpose of this study is to describe, explore, predict, and control phenomena to create a theoretical construction of a self-empowerment model in cardiac rehabilitation programs at home. Methods: Theory construction uses procedures that include establishing the central concept, establishing the source of the theory, determining the meaning of the theory, identifying concepts, examining concept definitions, identifying statements, establishing relationships between concepts, analyzing the logical adequacy of the theory, determining the usefulness of the theory, and explaining the level of generalizability and parsimony of the theory. Results: The self-empowerment model can be used to provide nursing care to patients with cardiac rehabilitation, especially cardiac rehabilitation at home. This model can optimize the achievement of patient capacity by increasing patient ability and independence. Patients are responsible, confident, and disciplined to change their behavior toward optimal health. Conclusions: This model is specific to the cardiac rehabilitation environment (home-based cardiac rehabilitation) to increase the participation of patients after cardiovascular interventions in cardiacrehabilitation programs to improve patient capacity which includes physical health, functional capacity, and quality of life.

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is  characterized  by neurological deficits resulting fromacute focal injury to  the central nervous system, originating from blood vessels such as cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage and subarachnoid hemorrhage. Stress is a known trigger for  stroke and  various  therapies are available to manage  stress. This study explores the effectiveness of a mind body therapy, specifically the HENS application on Android in reducing stress in post stroke patients.Method: The study employs a  quasi-experimental  design with a pre-test and post-test  with control group. The sampling technique in the study was  convenience sampling with a sample size of 48 post-stroke patients (24 for each intervention and control group). Data was collected using the DASS questionnaire and the HENS application. Results: The results revealed significant changes in stress levels before and after the six-day intervention with the  HENS Application. The intervention group showed a p value=0.000 indicating a significant reduction in stress levels. In contrast,  the control group’s  p value  was 0.853, suggesting  no significant change without treatment. Conclusions: The HENS application has the potential to provide post-stroke patients with independent support for managing stress. It offers clear and useful guidelines for implementing HENS techniques which can improve confidence of post stroke patients in independently managing stress.
