Abstract

This research explores the phrase "Geef Mij Maar Nasi Goreng" from the song of the same name by Aunt Lien as a lens into cultural acculturation between Indonesia and the Netherlands. By employing critical discourse analysis, the study investigates how the phrase reflects code-mixing, conveys cultural meaning, and contributes to identity construction. The research found that the phrase is a microcosm of cultural intersection, combining Dutch and Indonesian languages to express longing for Indonesian cuisine. It symbolizes the challenges of adapting to a new culture while maintaining one's heritage. Moreover, the song acts as a platform for Aunt Lien to navigate her Dutch-Indonesian identity, contrasting Indonesian flavors with Dutch culinary staples. Ultimately, the phrase serves as a potent symbol of the complexities of acculturation, demonstrating how language can be a vehicle for both connection and disconnection between cultures. This study contributes to understanding the role of language in cultural exchange and the experiences of individuals navigating multiple cultural identities

Abstract

Tradition and culture in Indonesia are deeply connected, particularly through rituals and belief systems. The Purung Ta Liang Marapu ritual in East Sumba, NTT, is a sacred ceremony conducted annually to worship deities, involving offerings of animals and betel leaves on sacred objects. This ritual embodies animism, the belief in spiritual forces behind natural phenomena, which are personified as spirits or gods. The aim of this study is to explore the animistic narratology within the Purung Ta Liang Marapu ritual using a narraethnographic approach, a method that combines narrative and ethnography to systematically explain cultural values and traditions. The research highlights that access to the ritual's spiritual power is reserved for specific individuals, such as kings or priests, who play a central role in maintaining these cultural practices. This study contributes to the understanding of how animism shapes and sustains traditional rituals in Central Sumba, providing a deeper insight into the preservation of indigenous belief systems.

Abstract

Some families strive to maintain open communication and support their children. Cultural and social factors also influence parental decisions, with some families viewing child labor as a reasonable economic contribution. The impact of child labor on family relationships varies, ranging from increased conflict to stronger bonds formed through shared struggles. This research highlights the importance of holistic interventions that are sensitive to the socio-cultural context in addressing child labor. Programs are needed to empower families economically, strengthen communication, and foster relationships to create an environment that supports the healthy and prosperous development of children. The study aims to understand the dynamics of communication within families whose children are involved in child labor in Balong Cangkring 2, Mojokerto.
