Abstract

Global climate change poses a threat to food supplies since it leads to long-term droughts, excessive rains, pest infestations, and disease outbreaks. Indonesia has access to Sago, a promising food resource for ensuring food security. Sago thrives in wetlands and peatlands despite its considerable starch content. Therefore, effective sago plantation management requires addressing environmental, economic, social, and institutional considerations, as well as making significant advancements in sago innovation clusters. The presence of alternatives, such as the Sago innovation cluster, enhances collaboration and competitiveness. This study examines the growth of sago plantations and the indigenous knowledge systems used to maintain them. A qualitative systematic literature review (SLR) employing the TERASI technique scrutinizes pertinent journal articles published between 2000 and 2023. Harzing Publish, or Perish, utilizes Google Scholar as its primary source for academic literature. Retrieve scholarly material pertaining to the topics of "Sago Plantations," "Sustainability," "Local Wisdom," "Benefits of Sago Plantations," and "Innovation Clusters." Studies indicate that low productivity, insufficient farmer institutions, and unsupportive legislation hinder the growth of sago plantations. The utilization of indigenous knowledge in sago management enhances the long-term viability of gardens. Further investigation into the sago plantation is required. Subsequent research endeavors should prioritize the exploration of indigenous knowledge in order to establish enduring sago crops. For the sustainable growth of Sago, it is necessary to introduce innovative approaches, such as establishing Sago innovation clusters that are based on local knowledge, in order to gain a deeper understanding of the local communities.

Abstract

Mobile devices are essential to improving student learning outcomes in hydroponic plant cultivation courses when used as a complementary tool and demonstration and discovery learning methods (also known as demons-disco learning). This course increases students' understanding and skills in cultivating plants, especially vegetables, using hydroponic techniques and mobile devices. Mobile-based applications offer new experiences in terms of information and communication technology and opportunities for students to engage in independent learning. The learning approach chosen includes providing understanding information, an overview of components and varieties, and an assessment through questions about hydroponic plant cultivation. So, a teacher must design learning by producing material to help students overcome problems in raising hydroponic plants. This research uses a research and development (R&D) approach in product creation, utilizing three of the four research phases: definition (identifying potential and problems, data collection), product design, and development (validating the design, refining the design, and testing the product). The trial was conducted on a small scale with 36 students through a discovery learning learning design. This article will discuss the research findings and the following implementation steps.

Abstract

Agricultural extension institutions serve as communication hubs that facilitate the exchange of information between farmers, the government, and institutional partners of farmer groups. Farmers must receive clear and practical information from extension institutions. This study aims to ascertain the role and function of extension institutions in promoting agricultural development in the plantation sector in Bogor. Additionally, it intends to identify extension workers' challenges and evaluate their contribution to agricultural development. The study employed a qualitative approach, utilizing data-gathering methods like observation and interviews. The participants included farmers, farming instructors, and members of the extension sector from the Bogor Agricultural Institute. The research findings elucidate the significance and function of plantation agricultural extension institutions in rural development, encompassing services, communication centers, and institutional development centers. The potential of partnerships and the role of extension institutions, including program planning and preparation, information provision and dissemination, human resource development, administrative structuring, and evaluation activities, have yet to be fully utilized. There is a demand for more agricultural teachers specializing in plantation crops and improved training opportunities for these instructors. Additionally, there should be a clear policy to facilitate the transition of plantation instructors to become instructors for food crops. Agricultural (plantation) development contributes to economic growth, community welfare, and enhanced plantation output outcomes. There is an expectation that the decrease in production output of various commodities, such as cloves, rubber, cocoa, and coffee, can be enhanced by augmenting the knowledge and expertise of farmers and their families while transforming their traditional farming practices into more modern ones.

Abstract

This research identifies various types of insect vectors that are capable of spreading disease-causing viruses in sugarcane plants in Indonesia and explores methods of controlling them. The main vector insects are from the order Hemiptera, which have piercing and sucking type mouthparts. These insects play an important role in the spread of viruses such as sugarcane mosaic virus (SCMV), sugarcane streak mosaic virus (SCSMV), and sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV), which can cause significant deterrence in national sugarcane productivity. This research uses a qualitative modeling approach by reviewing the literature to collect data regarding methods of controlling virus vector insects. The research results show that insect vector control must be carried out in an integrated manner, prioritizing technical and biological control methods as well as routine monitoring. The use of insecticides is recommended only if the insect population increases significantly. These results provide practical guidance for reducing the negative impact of insect vectors on sugarcane productivity in Indonesia.
