Abstract

Educational institutions are the main capital for creating education with quality human resources. Basically, human resources are a factor that can determine the achievement of success, because in any case, educational progress is determined by the human resources that are monitored. This illustrates that the existence of technology, no matter how sophisticated and modern, will not be achieved if the human resources are not qualified in organizing and managing an activity, then human resources become an influential subject in handling and controlling educational progress, if this can be implemented, the vision, mission and goals of education can be achieved effectively and efficiently. There are several things that must be done to improve the professionalism of educators in realizing the professionalism of educators in teaching. These are pre-service education, in-service and in-service training programs. With these programs, education, so that the learning activities carried out can contain effective results to achieve the expected goals which are supported by the strategy for developing educators' professionalism through professional development efforts.

Abstract

Effectively managing a classroom requires teachers to establish clear rules for acceptable and inappropriate behaviour in the learning environment. These rules assist teachers in managing diversity since learners come from various backgrounds. Evidence indicates the existence of classroom indiscipline in secondary schools in South Africa. This study explored how secondary schools established classroom rules. The study was grounded on general systems theory, utilised the interpretivism paradigm, employed a qualitative approach and a multiple case study design. Three data collection instruments were used: document analysis, semi-structured interviews, and focus group interviews. Inductive content analysis was used to analyse the generated data. The findings revealed that some sampled schools have not established classroom rules. For the schools that do, establishing the rules rests on teachers’ individual practices and expertise since the rules range from six to eighteen in different classes and are in written in positive and negative language. The study concludes that professional development opportunities for teachers regarding effective classroom rule establishment are minimal in schools. This study suggests that the department capacitated teachers to establish classroom rules and monitor adherence. The study offers a transformative change, shifting the focus of professional development from solely curriculum implementation to also encompassing classroom behaviour management strategies in schools.

Because use correct pronunciation in communication has been a huge challenge for most of the grade 7 students at KM/ST/Al-Marjan Muslim Ladies college (N.S )Sammanthurai, Ampara. Therefore, 20 grade 7 students were randomly selected for data collection from the total population (60 students). This study was a qualitative research  and data collection method were qualitative. The research instruments of this study were observation and a test. According to the analysis of the observation, the findings show that most of the participants do not have the previous knowledge about consonants pronounce. They are majority aware of only ‘ /ch/ ’ ,/d/ ’, ‘ /g/’, ‘ /th/ ’ words. Most of them do not have ideas about ‘ /v/ ’, ‘ /w/ ’, ‘ /sh/ ’ , ‘ /s/ ’ , ‘ /l/ ’ , ‘ /r/ ’,‘ /x/ ’ and more. Further, according to the analysis of the test, a large amount of  the participants (13 participants) failed to ‘ /d/ ’, ‘ /g/ pronounce the sounds in the given words. Likewise, with regard to use of  ‘ /l/ ’ , ‘ /r/ ’ in words, the finding show that 8 participants correctly pronounce ‘ /l/ ’ , ‘ /r/ ’in only one word out of 5 places to pronounce ‘ /l/ ’ , ‘ /r/’ words. Moreover, no participants correctly pronounce ‘ /l/ ’ , ‘ /r/ ’ in all  five words. The reason is, students do not have the knowledge of pronunciations accurately in communication. This problem can be overcome when the followings are implemented such as teaching consonants pronunciation rules using deductive method, applying interesting pronouncing activities and games in the classroom, correcting students’ pronounce, strictly focusing on pronunciation error, giving reading practice and explaining the way the pronunciation have been used in communication.
